  1. Its SUPPOSED to be frickin hot where you are.Its NOT supposed to rain the entire month of june and now well into July here. I havent even uncovered my boat yet. My dock is ready to float away. I'm trying to think happy thoughts, think happy thoughts, think happy thoughts...
  2. Its been raining in New England for a whole month now. We have had a few days that the sun came out breifly and quikly went right back to rain. Its so depressing, even someone from Seatle that was visiting, said they couldnt wait to get home for better weather.Forecast is rain thru the holiday weekend, I wonder how much a ticket to Jamaica is this time of year. Its a good thing I dont own guns...it could get messy.
  3. I wouldnt look at a welder for just this job. Once you own one, you will find all kinds of things to weld. Go the cheapo route now and you'll regret it later. I'm not saying spend top dollar, but I wouldnt buy a mig that wasnt upgradable to run gas later. Once you seen the difference, theres no going back ( unless your in a pinch ).
  4. Love the color Phil but I think the valve cover should not match the body paint. Keep it looking manly ( siver, black or charcoal ) bright engines look wussy or rice to me.JMHO
  5. Must not have liked Vince's nuts, his nu nu nu nuts.
  6. I would make them from plastic or hard rubber, my S2000 has them and now that Its lowered, they scrape ground here and there.
  7. Did I miss where they mentioned the previous record? How much faster was this fugly set-up? Unless it was considerable, theres a chance this guy is simply a better driver than the last record holder. If it is a second or more quiker, he may be on to something.Still, I'm leaning towards form over function with this design.
  8. If your going replace most of the cars components anyway, focus on the chassis. Hold out for a straight and rust free body ( if there still is such a thing ). Someone elses failed project can be a great start, they will never get back what they spent. For that matter, a completed modified car will always sell for alot less than what was spent. Of course, you dont get the satisfaction of doing the build yourself, but that means different things to different people.Your call.
  9. A std wood style chop/miter saw with a good carbide tipped blade works great on aluminum. Its important to use a grease/wax stick to lube the blade so it doesnt load up with gaulled aluminum. Ive used an old Makita for years with no issues. You dont want to use an abrasive blade on non ferrous material. They dont remove the material fast enough, you need each carbide to peel a chip out. I dont recomend using this same setup for steel tho. Those type of saws turn at too high of an rpm and the carbides will be flying around like .22 cal rounds. I also use a std table saw and skill saw for alum. all the time. Just dont forget the wax stick.Applied dirctly to the blade while its spinning
  10. So would you say , you, "threw another shroud on the barbie"? ( spoken with an aussie accent )....I know, you dont even have to say it.Sorry.
  11. Just glad it wasnt an S30...jk...maby
  12. What series aluminum did you use? I assume an 1100 dead soft. Nice work by the way.
  13. Just because you have something laying around, does not mean you should use it.Do your self a favor and pick up a small pc. of sq or rectangle tube and do it right. If you still go this route, make sure you grind off all the galv. in the weld zone for your health , but more importantly, to get a stronger weld.
  14. WOW.....Need more pics and details. WOW...
  15. Six weeks is unacceptable, I would make it look as tho I was taking the car elsewhere. And I dont mean just telling him, show up unanounced ( best done on a sat. ) with a trailer and see what he say's. His reaction will tell you if he really wants the work. If he does, he's more likely to "make" time for your car,if not, he wont mind you taking it away. They dont call it "paint jail " for nothing.Good luck.
  16. Great pics, thanks. Man, I love that Ghia.I had one for my second car.I pulled the body off the pan and built a 3" lift frame and made a Baja Ghia out of it.Bummed I never took any pics of it.
  17. Those would go nicely on the 510....hmmm, PM sent
  18. rsicard, the .75" angles are on both sides of the tube running lengthwise. They are something I bent up in my shop. You can find hot rolled angle iron in either 1/2" X 1/2" or the 3/4".

  20. Id love to hear that baby screemin at red line with those ITB's
  21. Heres how I'm doing it. The tube is 1.5" X 3" with an .090 wall. ( thought it was .120" ) As I said , its half in and half out and has a .75 X .75 angle welded down the center to help position it and give more to weld to the section floorpan. The main hoop will weld on top of the tube frame behind that wire harness. This tube is welded to the rocker. Its also welded to the rear factory subframe.
  22. Thats very true John but being a street car, I dont want any cage around my head.Any frame I put in will be behind the seats and down low across the doors. These low bars will also tie into the rockers in at least 2 spots. They will have to be low enough so I can get my big butt in and out without breaking a hip every time. When I get to that point, I'll be looking for some advise from you and others.
