  1. Thanks, Ron. I plan on building this car over hot cocoa this Winter.
  2. Sorry Avernir, I was working on this as soon as Titus_RacerX posted the link. I wasn't trying to screw anyone. I stuck to my schedule and if you had gotten there, it probably would have been yours. I wasn't going to try to intercept you or anything.
  3. Plans are family driver, momentum racer for track days, weekend cruiser, car to work on with my son, as he grows up.
  4. Well, I have been trying to lay low with this, and finally cut a deal. I want to thank a member here for helping me to check out this car--->(Titus_RacerX). I settled on a deal and the car will be picked up and shipped to me next week. It's my second Z and it's a '72 240Z. It's very solid, and comes with everything I will need to get it rolling, except the engine. It just so happens I have a running L28, 16" Panasports, and a Poly bushing kit for the car already in my garage. It will be my Winter project. It's going to be a simple build due to low funds at the moment. Over time it will develop into a more capable build. Plans: Triple Carbs, stock L28 with headers. Cut springs with KYB or basic Tokico struts. Sway bars 16" Panasports 225/50-16 tires Performance pads/shoes Original 4-speed New Carpeting New bushings Basic Tear-down, paint and clean suspension and under carriage. Strip/paint engine bay Repair dent in drivers door. 5-point roll hoop. Dave Oh yeah...last but not least...PICS! http://dcerutti.smugmug.com/Other/Future-Z/10195543_2VzbZ
  5. I got that one right away... I don't know if anyone else did?
  6. Cool do the math and give us the results! SolidWorks (Cosmoflow) can do flow analysis. I played with it a little but need some tutorials. You are welcome to try it out if you want. My guess is a nicely ported stock intake will do what you need. My other guess is that you will want more than a stock intake can provide...
  7. Not a fan of chrome or polished stuff in the car so I pick the wood setup.
  8. Whoops? No? http://www.autoblog.com/2009/11/02/video-ken-blocks-subaru-based-trax-sti-is-an-alpine-badass/#continued
  9. $2000 seems a bit fishy to me unless there is something wrong with it. Nicest one I have seen is BARACU's on this site. http://forums.hybridz.org/showthread.php?t=109876&highlight=baracu
  10. If I had one, I would sell it and build a $10,000 Z. It is legend though.

  12. A few from the past couple of days
  13. I learned this from Grumpyvette right here on HBZ. http://forums.hybridz.org/showthread.php?t=94635&highlight=spark+plugs http://forums.hybridz.org/showthread.php?t=100491&highlight=spark+plugs
  14. It was still in warmup mode in the second video but yes, smooth after warmup and at 1000rpm's where my idle is set warmed up. You can still barely hear a misfire but it is almost inaudible and has little to no effect on idle or vacuum signal anymore. Side-gapping is probably better than indexing alone. Indexing would be a nice second step though. Side gapping: http://www.instructables.com/id/Save-Gas-And-Incerase-Horsepower-By-Side-Gapping-S/ Now, I might be masking a failing, weak ignition, or weird fuel mixture, but what it demonstrated to me is that side-gapping makes a heck of a difference in this car.
  15. Wow I have been battling this misfire at idle, and part throttle issue for about a month. Last night I decided to try side gapping the set of NGK's that were in there. Listen to the difference. Car starts, runs, better and smoother. I tried all kinds of mixture, timing corrections, and back flushing the injectors, to minimize the misfires. Nothing really worked until this. LOL you can hear my 240Z clock mechanism in my 280 clock ticking in the "After" video. Misfire.zip
  16. Side gapping the spark plugs solved my misfire at idle problem and the car backfires much less during decel. http://forums.hybridz.org/showthread.php?t=154222
  17. OK I solved the problem but I still can't explain why it happened. I was determined to look for the simple things so I decided to re-chack the gap on the new plugs I had installed while trying to slove this problem. The misfires were at idle and slightly at part throttle with the old spark plugs and also the new colder plugs. When I pulled out the latest plugs tonight, they looked pretty nice. But I noticed that the ground electrode completely covered the core. I had been reading about side-gapping plugs in Grumpy's thread, so I decided to try it. I bent the ground tab up about 45 degrees, ground it about half way down on the bench grinder. Cleaned up the end with a small file and re-gapped them. Now the spark is going to have nice exposure to the combustion chamber. I installed them, crossed my fingers and fired up the car. Wow. Smooth idle, no missing but, as the car warmed up, the idled settled a bit low. I drove it, SUPER smooth power, and I came back and leaned out to idle mix from 10:1 to about 12.3:1 and it idles nice and smoothly. Hmm. This is NO B.S. Side gapping works! http://performanceunlimited.com/documents/plugsidegapping.html My Alfa Romeo used to use Golden Lodge spark plugs that had four side gaps! This was factory spec for Alfa in 1972!
  18. Fog is the best way to show distance and depth...other than depth of field.
  19. Walking was a good move. Most likely, there is 10 times more rust on that car than what you saw. Look for a better chassis, you will save LOTS of money and time in the long run.
