  1. Same goes for the seals in some fuel cells. Make sure to mention your running E85 when you order your cell so you get the right type.
  2. Yep! I practically own stock with my brake pad companies! But it looks damn good! My Z is for me to do all the impractical things that would ruin a DD... so I don't mind.
  3. They probably butt dyno the car on the way to impound... Keep it stock looking, L28 block, and some liquid displacement. I doubt the look at internals.... Megasquirt it with a couple slow maps on standby incase they want to check. VIN and engine numbers don't match from the factory, so how could they tell?
  4. $375 whole car minus a transmission. It's been on craigslist probably 6 months now... I contemplated going to pull parts off it, as its on my way to work... Nothing I really need though... Here's the link: http://elpaso.en.craigslist.org/cto/2174996379.html Arroyo Seco Raceway is a half hour away... you might be able to arrange something with the Arizona members on here, they go there every so often, might haul it that far back for you if you buy a tank of C16 and they have the space on a trailer. Just an idea...
  5. Leon, no Monty references slipping by you! I think I would like my member title to be "There are some who call me... Tim?" Edit: Hah! See that's where dictatorships shine! Efficiency! Thanks admins!
  6. And learn how to use Google to search this website! The regular search is alright, but it has its limitations, just put "site:Hybridz.org" at the end of what your searching and your set. Happy Reading, and welcome to the forum. PS: I know where you can pull the engine out of a Turbo Z31, its in New Mexico, and the guy has been trying to sell it Foreverrr...
  7. He may be using the mobile version to view the page, it won't show location and all that... Or maybe not... who knows
  8. Reminds me of the time my wife came home to find me baking parts in the oven (I was taking the lenses off my tail light assemblys, worked really well actually...) she was NOT happy about the melting plastic smell our place had... Oh well! She got over it, I was baking primer the next week! ...while she was at work of course
  9. http://www.sdsefi.com/specific.html It's a pretty compete kit. Billet coil pack is cool... 1k+ cool, er... I dunno bout' that. 240zip, Any reason you went that route over EDIS, or just using MS?
  10. He does already has the L28et, that's why I originally pushed for him to keep that. If he deems a swap necessary, then its not like he would be hurting for an engine while he saves up for a better platform than a SOHC KA.
  11. I will admit that's probably true in most cases, but the aftermarket follows the money... And besides, when there's more rice-bois with parts they can't afford it means more deals for you when they have to decide between that and rent! Missed out on a set of recaros a few months back... never installed, sold them for $200. Guy had an SR20det in his garage waiting to go in his 240sx too... I was wondering if I would get called on the Frankenstein thing, you are absolutely correct. I always preferred Wilde or Stoker to Shelley anyways...
  12. At least an SR justifies the effort of swapping an engine. Sure you can make some power with a SOHC KA, and cheap too, but its on such a level playing field with the L28 despite being considerably newer. Is it really worth it to the end user to do a swap just for SOHC KA? Why not swap UP. SR20s may not be as easy to find, but they can be found, and they offer so much more potential out of the box... What extra money you spend initialy will be well worth it. I think I said it before, there is a reason everybody swaps their KAs out. Think about it; swapping engines is the very nature of hot rodding. Take the leanest frame and put in the biggest nastiest engine you can. If all you can afford to put in is an engine that's within arms reach of your original motor... What's the point? Frankenstein was an 8' colossus. If he had been pieced together to form a 5' 4" monster could he even be called such? If your going to the work, go for some real potential, some real power!
  13. http://www.sfxperformance.com/parts/AUM2238.htm Just google "universal gauge panal" plenty of places sell them cheap.
  14. Z Virtual tape measure! All you should need is here... http://forums.hybridz.org/index.php/topic/47601-z-virtual-tape-measure/page__p__409152__hl__%2Bvirtual+%2Btape+%2Bmeasure__fromsearch__1#entry409152
  15. Search, lots of different installations out there... Here's some to get you started: http://forums.hybridz.org/index.php/topic/38513-v3-edis-x-installation-set-up-etc/ http://forums.hybridz.org/index.php/topic/90889-wasted-spark-ignition-no-edis/ http://forums.hybridz.org/index.php/topic/97322-edis-coil-on-plug-coil-mount-bracket-billet-aluminum/page__p__913982__fromsearch__1#entry913982 Any one of the coils or packs can be had new from the parts store, or dealership...
  16. Just go through some of the EDIS build threads and look at what others have done. Some run coil on plug, some run coil packs. Mounting can be to the block, the valve cover, shock tower or firewall. Most people are running OEM junkyard units, no real reason to run anything exotic/expensive. I've got a chrysler coil pack I'll sell you for $20 +shipping. I pulled it from a van that had been rear ended, so it should be fine. Alot of people use these for the flat back which allows for easy mounting. I figured I would use it but 1 fast Z's mounting bracket for individual coils is really tempting me right now... Here's the chrysler unit, at has the same style plug as a spark plugs, which is another aspect that makes adaptation easy.
  17. Call it nostalgia, or my inner purist, but ever since I got into Zs I've natully been more interested in ones that retained the L6. Sure there are better engines in every aspect, and some very well executed swaps, but you can't argue with these examples. These are some of the cars I draw inspiration from, and hope to someday match in terms of quality, power and beauty; I would take this car over any swapped car anyday... Link: http://speedhunters.com/archive/2010/06/30/car-spotlight-gt-gt-pike-s-peak-datsun-240z.aspx Look familiar anyone...?
  18. "*************************" = Speller? Cook? Swimmer?? What is it!?
  19. Fauxer, any updates? I'm starting on my dash and would like to see where yours stands at this point...
  20. Sounds like a fun little accessory... have any closeups of the button on the shifter? How does it attach? Sounds like a poor mans launch control... How much did that set up cost you?
  21. +1, looking at running the same setup on my 280, anybody already running this?
  22. Any chance at a profile comparison photo to show the difference between the two? What would you suggest as a maximum speaker depth with the low profile version? Still only for 240s right? Anybody install some in a 280 care to chime in about what it takes to adapt them? Awesome looking as always Derek, thanks for making this stuff available to all of us!
  23. McKinney Motorsports has engine mounts for the swap, around $450 before shipping I believe. Your also looking at around $200 for a decent custom exhaust. Still need the turbo, intercooler, exhaust manifold and all the associated hardware (which can get expensive in a hurry). You would have to figure what your going to run ECU wise. Custom driveshaft too. This is all without cracking open the engine, just trusting the stock internals to handle more than twice the original horsepower and torque that they were intended for... To do a proper turbo oriented rebuild you would be looking at around $1.5-1.7k just on internals. Add another 1k for a turbo kit... you can go cheaper, but your not going to get 350 hp, at least not without breaking anything. Im sure someone will say you can get 350 without half the stuff I listed, but how often do you really want to be pulling the engine? KA ringlands are weak, and your going to need a good tune to keep from detonating, so why not do it right? You know how it is with cars, between being cheap, reliable, fast you only get two. Choose what's important too you and stick to it. I personally believe that if you spend a little extra the first time around, you save more in the long run. My advice to you is go with the KA, you seem pretty geared in that direction anyway. Keep it stock, get it tuned up and reliable, and keep it NA while you save up enough for a proper turbo conversion. Once you have everything together you should have all the kinks associated with an engine swap worked out, and you'll know (hopefully) about any problems with your engine. Good luck in whatever you do, and don't forget to take lots of photos and show us on here as you do it.
