I'd imagine while it would make the metal stronger in some aspects it would also make it more brittle right? Wouldn't it be along the same lines as heat hardening it. If so then it would be substantialy harder unless it had an impact, and then it could shatter. I always thought that there couldn't be a gain in strenght without making it more brittle to impact. Well, I guess ceramic parts are stronger in some regards but also more brittle too. I know it works that way with mountain bike frames with ceramic in it. Lighter and stronger but with less impact strength. I'm probable just talkin out me *ss though.

Can you guys link me to all the taurus fan info that you might have. I can't seem to locate old info in search. I know there is tons of info out there and will happily read thru it all if I can find it. Thanks

Hey guys. So I am trying to search for something that I know there is info on. All I seem to pull up is a few posts and nothing too old. I have searched the old threads for how to fix this search problem of mine too. So, I am looking for all info on the taurus fan install. Can you tell me how to pull all them up? Thanks

cost of housing vs pay in your neighborhood
innerware replied to randy 77zt's topic in Non Tech Board
I don't think that the california market will ever truly adjust itself. I was living in a good size house with over an acre in CT for 1100 a month. That gets my wife and I an apt. at 700 sq ft. in Oakland. We can't afford to buy out here unless we moved to Sacramento. I just refuse to drive that much. With all the people moving here and the weather being as nice as it is. I just don't see the prices droping. It sucks too cause I don't see myself ever getting payed more than 5% more here than in the Boston area. Oh well, we will move back east in a year or so. The only good thing about that is being able to garage the car for the winter and work on it. LOL -
Hey guys. So I finaly got my fan and thremostat. I can't seem to find older posts to look this up, so here goes. My Taurus fan has one plug coming off of it (two wires one plug) The summit racing thermostat has three contacts. Since this thermostat is actually a replacement(Flex-a-lite Replacement Adjustable Electric Fan Thermostats) that was recommended on another post reciently, and doesn't come with directions. I was wondering if someone who has done this could chime in or show me an old post where this is described. I am in no particular hurry, except that I would like to do it in the next month or two. All the things like what to wire where. If I use a fuse in line with the thermostat what size fuse. Where is the best place to mount the sensor to get the best temperature reading etc, and where on the dial do you have yours adjusted to. Thanks in advance all, Kyle

You are only rice if you think it will make your car faster. I think it looks good though. More power to you.

I finally got rid of my credit cards. I am still in grad school and owe on undergrad too. But what the hell. It is an education. These people need a reality check. I had a friend who I knew how much he made ( I was boss) and he and his wife went out one day and came back with a Honda element and was soooo excited. I talked to him on the phone when he was at the dealer getting the deal of a life time. He got screwed imo. His wife did work but had a 3 year old. Needless to say 5 months later it was repoed. They had bad credit to begin with and there payments were like 500 a month and they had to put down 2k. That was not money well spent. I like driving my old Z that is payed for and I can put money into a little at a time when I have it. I feel your pain having to be friends with them, cause no matter what you say they will go ahead and do it anyway.

check with the Zbarn in FL. They will ship and the rear control arm is like 75 bucks and shipping is around 20. here is the link: http://www.zbarn.com/

put it up on ebay with a 50k reserve. That way you can sense what the market might bring.

Insurance is a scam no matter how you look at it. He may have found a great deal, but will they pay out if he needs them to? Is there a mileage restriction on heis car like for classic car insurance to get to and from shows? I probably pay too much too. But his seems like it is too little to be worth anything. Just my .02$

Which brake lines do I need for upgrade?
innerware replied to ezzzzzzz's topic in Brakes, Wheels, Suspension and Chassis
I didn't think you could use zx calipers up front on an early z. Or what is the benifit other than using toyota sw12 calipers, which are bigger. Email Ross at MM cause he sells the braided lines. Also people here in the classifieds are selling there used s12w toy calipers. You could then buy the lines and spacers from Ross and find rotors at a JY. -
http://www.geocities.com/madmanadam/Process2002/2002-process.html try that.

Should I have to turn my electric fan on often?
innerware replied to olie05's topic in Miscellaneous Tech
question for you all. I just ordered a fan on ebay(taurus 2 speed) and I will get the thermostatic switch. My car has been heat soaking. If I let it sit for an hour after I drive it fine, if I let it sit for 5 min fine. But if I let it sit for 25 min then it starts up like crap and the temp is way up right after start up. So since I can't seem to find out why, I thought the electric fan would work. With that being said, the thermostatic switch is placed in the radiator fins. With the car off will this fluid raise in temp or is it fluid in the block that is getting hotter? I want the fan to come on for a few minutes after I stop the car like new cars. Also, with a stock 78 will the alternator hold up and for how long can the fan run after the car is turned off before the battery drains? I have a new radiator though and the car runs real cool when driving or in traffic. Thanks all, Kyle -
could be the gauge or the thermometer sending sensor. Could an engine do that in temperature that fast? Try getting a laser temp sensor that is hand held. Run the engine and stand outside and check the readings. I can't imagine it being a temperature issue but a reading issue.

its too bad that it needs air cleaners. It really looks slick without them. I'd love to hear a sound clip posted. Looks hot.

Thanks all for such great and prompt replies. I might just tackle it again this Friday or weekend. My left arm is all scratched up from trying to remove all those coupler nuts. It should go way easier the second try since all the bolts have come off receintly. The mustache bar doesn't look like it would come off that way with two bolts perpendicular to the others. But I will try harder and maybe loosen the front of the diff. Have you guys burned out the old bushings or used a hack saw? That atlanticzcar link was good indead. Thanks again, Kyle
-
OK so I thought since I had a half day today at work I would replace these two items. I have had them for a while and thought now since I had my new suspension on I would do it. My first question is this: Do I need to drop my whole differential in order to get the mustache off? Will these old bushings need to be pressed out? I couldn't seem to drop the diff enough and gave up. Question 2: The steering coupler, I couldn't get the bolts out. I was able to get the nuts off but that is as far as I got. I tried like the dickens to get the splined area to move forward and couldn't. I removed the bolt that holds the splined part and sprayed penatrating oil on it in hopes to break it loose. Is there an easier way? It boggles my mind that the bolts slide out toward the universal joint and not the other way. It is a 78 280z coupe. Thanks much guys. I'll have time this Friday to try again so I hope for some good tips. Thanks, Kyle

MMvs.MSA front brake kit
innerware replied to violacleff's topic in Brakes, Wheels, Suspension and Chassis
I think that the msa kit has the sw8 calipers that are bolt on to the existing rotors. The mm kit you need to buy seperately the calipers and he provides the spacer, rotor, brake lines, and pads. I have been told by members here that if you are going to do it do it all the way. Having the bigger rotors makes a difference. Check the clasifieds here, I think I saw people selling there 4x4 calipers. You could save money and just order the spacers from mm and find rotors at a jy. -
I think that it is so nice to read things that aren't written by our mass media and come from the average person. Especialy one that doesn't like Bush and has learned something. Now just cause it is written doesn't make it gospel, I know. But it was a good read non-the-less. Thanks for sharing. I too am glad they can vote.

go for it!!

me too I'd buy one. Plus I like the idea of a vote. There are definately some guys here that deserve to have there work in a calendar.

could also check out the zbarn http://www.zbarn.com/ -
welcome aboard. What did you study at college? I can't say anything about the rb engines, but wanted to say hello. I am sure you are aware of the search feature. If not check it out. Most people here want us all to live by it for simple stuff, or stuff in general since so much has allready been covered. There are some guys here with nice rb setups, so I hope they will help. Good luck and have fun. You going to be able to find a good Z out there in MO? Road trip to Cali?
