  1. I'll be first to say it......Search the threads. I personally don't know but I am sure it has been covered before. The r200 is what the 240 guys use alot but that is all I know. It came on 280z's and zx's and is stronger that the stock on the 240.
  2. the dap stuff works pretty well all in all. It never dries 100% solid. Always stays a little chalky. When painted it seals it pretty well. Just make sure you have lots of coats of paint over it and you don't try and use it to fill too large an area. By the way the pics didn't show. I am really intrigued
  3. Damn it man!! That sucks. I thought this was going to be a joke or something, what a bummer. Sounds like a country western song. Good luck and I hope you find her.
  4. that looks pretty good so far. How are you going to mount that thing securely? I've always wondered cause front airdams are under alot of abuse right? From wind and curbs etc?
  5. I am sure we have all found ourselves at a crossroad once or twice. I am 30 now. One more semester away from finishing frad school. I feel that the last 10 years has been kind of a waste in the fact that I am now doing what I want. So, my advice is do the one thing that makes you happy doing it. Maybe you haven't found it yet, maybe you really have. But life is too short working as many hours as we do doing something you don't want to do. If the police department is what you want then go for it. Find a few good cops and talk a lot to them. Do what ever you can to learn about it. There is also nothing wrong with college. Just talk to as many people in what ever field it is that you might be interested in first. So many people that I know went to school for one thing and now are doing something completely different. So don't waste all the college time and money for nothing. Just do some soul searching. But you are only 20. Plenty of time to live a little and learn. Good luck and happy trails
  6. that totaly sucks. My landlord is cool though. He has offered tools if I needed them. We live in 1 of 5 apartments he built behind his house. Can't complain. I do try and do my work elsewhere though since there isn't a lot of room, but I have my ramps and some other stuff behind the car. Guess it is off to the streets for you aye?
  7. you can buy a new driveshaft through msa. I don't remember how much it was but it as removable u joints. I had to replace mine a while back and that is what I got.
  8. topless, I think he was saying how he allready got it. It took a LONG time but was finally shipped and received.
  9. just check out: http://www.modern-motorsports.com/catalog/product_info.php?products_id=59
  10. All fixed. We re-bled the rear brakes a ton. Also got the rear suspension in. It is truely amazing how much fun the car is with new springs and struts tokico blues with 1" lowering springs). With the car 1" lower it looks a bit better, harder to get out of though, but corners so nice. Almost no body roll at all and the squat is way less when launching. With the brakes bled and the front stainless lines on it brakes real well too. Now I can't wait to get new wheels for it so I can fit the 4x4 brakes up front. fl327 recomends 15 x 7's front and back. I agree, he has 15 x 7's up front and 15 x 8's in back and it looks awesome. Thought I would share my overwhelming joy with you all. Oh, and when poping out the rear suspension, it hurts real bad when the unit swings out and slams into your knee. fl327 got a good laugh. And thanks to all that have supported me on everything.
  11. used try the zbarn at 1-800-247-2793 I haven't called them in a while but last time I did they were cool and the prices were good. New try msa or victoria british.
  12. Thanks metro, awesome advice. I was wondering what the hole was for. I will try that tomorrow. And I just replaced the front lines not the back.
  13. Thanks I'll try the master and bleed that. The rear brakes though, don't they adjust themselves with the hand brake? I thought if you could get good hand brake adjustment the rears were good. My hand brake lever is now like it used to be after fussing with it a little but I still have spongy brakes. Is there a better way to adjust the rear drums?
  14. i'd say it does depend on where you live. Cali cars won't sell for as much as a N.Y. car etc. With fresh paint done well and the floors replaced with all the other goodies maybe 2k plus is my opinion. Is it really worth it though? Even if you got 4K for it you have put so much time into it and one never recoups that financially. But I have a hard time letting things go. I don't think though if you spend 1K on paint if that will increase the value that much. Better to just do the body work yourself, save money that way and prime it good with epoxy primer etc. The next owner would then have a good base car with out you having to recoup as much money. But I don't know much, post some pics though and I am sure there are others with better opinions.
  15. Thanks, initially there was a small leak at those lines. We went over them a few times slightly tightening them untill no further wetness or leak was noticed. Everything appears to be dry. I think there might be moisture in the lines as it rained on us before we could move the parts under the garage door. I will run fresh fluid through the lines as stated before and that is what we did too. But fresh fluid and more time bleeding should hopefully help. It does stop me but isn't nearly what I would consider great or as good as before. Thanks for the tips so far.
  16. O.k. so I worked with fl327 today and didn't get as much done as hoped but got the front suspension done and the rear drum cylinders replaced, drums and shoes. Apon putting everything back together we bled the brakes and still have a squishy pedal. Oh, and we also replaced the front lines with braided steel. We got the parking brake to work but it hasn't fully adjusted or something. It works but I have to pull it higher than I normally did. We are thinking that we need to bleed more, but opinions are definately welcome. I was able to drive home and the front suspension feels great but the brake pedal is squishy at first push but gets firmer after 2nd etc. If I don't brake for 5-10 sec's it will be squishy again. Does this sound like air or moisture in the line? It did rain on us for a little bit. Thanks again all, we will finish the rear suspension Thursday (hopefully the penatrating oil has worked on the halfshaft bolts. They wouldn't budge) And if anyone suggests a tip or trick I will try it then. Thanks again fl327.
  17. So I looked up the Konig rewinds. http://www.technotoytuning.com/t3_site_pages/products/konig_rewind.html They look great and are preaty cheap. Is that a great price? I won't be getting them since I would need new tires too, but I might start saving.
  18. headlights have a tendancy to go out in a Z. The most common problem is the turn signal switch from what I have gathered. Although make sure you go and check all the grounds and the connectors too for corrosion. Clean everything well. If that still doesn't do anything for you, you might want to consider running relays. Here is a good link, http://mywebpages.comcast.net/pparaska/Headlight_Relay_pg1.htm Pete has donated this link to the public domain and we have all been very grateful. Give it a read. This is where I bought my relays: http://www.danielsternlighting.com/ Good luck
  19. Thanks all for the replies. I am going to find out today. fl327 is helping me out in Union City. We are going to do the suspension and change out the rear drum cylinders. We will test fit everything and see if spacers are needed and in what size. Hopefully that is. We might wait for another day depending on what we get done and how fast. If I find out I will let everyone know. 240Z2NV, thanks for the offer. I will let you know if I am of need of them. Fingers crossed all will work out just fine.
  20. By stock spare you mean a full size spare? I thought they only came with doughnut spares. Maybe I am not understanding? Aux, can you explain. Thanks, Kyle
  21. O.k. so I posted earlier if the 4x4 vented brake setup would fit with stock 14 " wheels. So far Aux. didn't think so and Ross at modernmotorsport didn't think they would. I have found through searching that some 14" rims will accept them and some require spacers. My questions are, if anyone knows is: What 14" rims are you using and or what will work? Also, zparts.com has used wheels for sale and their shop is only 20 minutes from me. So does anyone know if any of the rims he has for sale will fit? Or, question 3: What are the characteristics (measurements etc) of a 14" wheel that will fit? I would love to put the new brakes on soon, but don't want or have the $$ for new rims and tires. I might be able to put together a few hundred for used 14" wheels and use my existing tires. What do you all think? Thanks again, Kyle
  22. O.k. so the wait is finally over. I have all my parts for the suspention and brakes and i am going to put it all on tomorrow with the help of a member here. Question though..... I have the stock 14" rims on the car and will the vented rotor s12w setup fit on the car? Will I need a spacer? If so what size spacer will I need? I know this has been done 100's of times and was hoping someone could help me not get stuck. Thanks in advance, Kyle
  23. I have been working on my 78 for a while now. Very slowly mind you. I don't really have the space to do much. But I have been planning what I can. I allready have the JTR radiator in there with the L6 and i am putting on the toyota calipers and vented rotors, new suspension etc. The car has been way cheaper than car payments and really reliable. It only stranded me once (alternater) While not cheap, in the few years I have had my 900 california car I have spent maybe 3k. Probably more than it looks like. The engine is old but runs. In a month the suspension will be fully replaced and the brakes all new and redone. Not too bad. All that will be left will be the drivetrain and body work. Regardless of what you do I liked the ability to keep it as a daily driver and to progressivly update items that I will need updated for when a faster newer engine is in its place. Good luck and what ever you do have fun, Kyle
  24. I just wanted to say that for the last few years of owning a Z and coming here, I haven't even wanted to go to any other forums. I agree, this is my home too. So, thanks. I might not be able to share as much with anyone else as I am not a car builder etc professionally and I have limited experience. But please lets keep this site the same. I know that when I have a question that might seem stupid to others I don't get flamed. Happy new year to all and I will keep enjoying this great site.
  25. it comes down to ease of installation and smog factors. Some people especially those in Cali, use the older 240 because it is easier to pass smog because it is exempt. Also the JTR kit was developed for the older 240 - 280Z models and makes a swap easier if you aren't good at fabbing your own parts. The ZX did improve on the aerodynamics of itself and from what I remember doesn't have the classic Z exhaust smell. It is newer and has newer features than a Z, so if you like power stuff it is cool. Since your cars were free, you have a head start. Lots of people here have put v8's in there ZX's so the information is out there. As long as you love the car, go for it. The ZX is a beautiful car too. MSA sells stuff for both cars for aftermarket appearance too. I personally love my 78 car, but would own a zx if I had the space to put it. Good luck
