  1. So I thought I would share my Friday night fun with you all. Well I was at work and getting ready to leave early. I was just going to help this lady architect load a base we made for her model into the back of her truck. So I wheeled it out to the loading dock in our building and got it in. All was great so far. Still 3:00 and I would be leaving early. Well, I went to get off the dock. I put one hand on the dock corner and the other on the edge of the truck and was going to swing my legs out and onto the dock about 5 feet below. Done this a hundred times. Well, my feet got hung up on the lip to the dock and I lost my balance. I face planted into the edge of the dock with my feet still hung up. Now I am hanging parallel to the dock. My back arched backward and then flop smack bang. I crashed (bellyflopped) onto the concrete deck 5 feet below. It all happened so fast. Well the young gall heard the sound and came running over. I couldn't move. Kind of nocks the self esteem from ya when that happens. After eating dirty dock floor for a few minutes I turned over to find out that it feels like I was run over and my knees feel broke. My left one is now bleeding through my pants my middle finger on my left hand is swelling and I have a fat lip. Well that was my start to my Friday. Long story short, x rays and stiches later, my finger was broken, knees just really bruesed, and stiched up. It is going to be hard getting into the Z. I think I have wip lash too. Moral of this story. Use the stairs. Thanks for listening, Kyle
  2. It might not be the injectors themselves. Have you replaced the injector clips. Even though you might have cleaned the contacts good( don't know if you did) they are old and fail easily. You can buy them through MSA and are really easy to switch. But if you know it is the injectors I got mine from NAPA. It's been a few years and they are running fine. Around 50-55 bucks a pop though. A few $ cheaper than MSA.
  3. reread the post. i had to too. He said that his friend that has a 280z is who got him inpired to be into the Z car. That blue Z is just plain awesome though.
  4. since there isn't any bumper on the G-nose what kind of reinforcing does one do so a small accident doesn't ruin everything? Or just don't go tapping anything. I can just see not realizing how long the front is and tapping a wall or something.
  5. http://hybridz.org/nuke/index.php?name=PNphpBB2&file=viewtopic&t=34299&highlight=g+nose That is the most receint post about the availability. I know if you search for the mirrors they will come up.
  6. As always I am impressed with the level of knowledge this site can provide. Thanks for all the great info. I now have a good solid place to start. We will probably just be a small site dedicated to our immediate group and a few staglers. 500 meg would be plenty, for now anyway. We are meeting tonite so I will ask around for opinions etc. Thanks again, Kyle
  7. Hi guys, Well for many years now I have loved coming here. Now I have started a group that meets once a week (industrial designers) and we would love to have our own forum of sorts. My question is about the logistics about this site and how expensive etc it is to run. Was the site a kind of cookie cutter layout? Once I have a domain name and a site where does one get this forum format? I have seen other forums with similiar layouts, where do you get them? How much custom tayloring has to be done. Within our group we have webmasters etc. But I thought I would ask what it is you have done since I like it so much. No one has created a forum yet only websites. Thank you for your time, Kyle
  8. From what I have read from guys here, is that it weakens an allready somewhat weak frame. Since it is unibody and all.
  9. what do you all think about http://www.risingsunengines.com/engines.html I have heard nothing about them but found there site a while back
  10. Hey, so I was thinking I know I need to have my wifes Corollas timing belt changed every 60k. But that is just a belt. I know the datsun has a heavy duty metal chain. How often does this need to be done? Do they ever break. I don't know the last time it was done, the engine has over 180k. What do you all think? Thanks
  11. Keep it a hard top. And definately paint it. Although it does look good.
  12. O.k. so a while ago I was told that my rear drums are too small to turn again. It was over a year ago. Now I am hearing some rear brake noise and figure it is time to replace the pads. I have never done it in over 3 years. They were fine though untill now. Anyway, Victoria British has drums for less $$$ than msa. But they offer cast iron and alum drums. Ten dollar difference. Is one better than the other. Both are finned and I figure I don't care about the weight. So will cast iron hold up better, or is alum better at heat disapation? Thought I would ask. I don't know if I will ever switch to rear disks but if I do it won't be for a while(years). Thanks in advance.....and I searched too.
  13. I had a similiar problem after I replaced my clips too. It was the wires that went to the temp sender and thermotime switch that also needed replacing. I could be driving along and it would choke up and die. If I moved the wires sometimes it would do the same thing. So I replaced them and the problem went away. I know you can buy the little harness that they come on. I got mine from The Z doctors in Richmond CA. I think you can order from them. Just make sure you don't mix up and cross the wires. It doesn't like to start when cold then. Hopefully this helps a little.
  14. Definately bring a compression tester. A magnet is good to find any filler. A flashlight too. A socket wrench with a spark plug socket would be good too. I am sure there are plenty others the mechanics on the site will recomend. Those would be some basics I would bring though. Good luck, Kyle
  15. I've got some 4" polk audios in my car and they sound great for just two 4" speakers. I good place to mount the gear is right behind that bumber thingy as you go into the trunk area. There is a bunch of space under it and you could easily have doors that swing up and is covered in carpet. I have a 78 too and that is what I plan on doing. For a car with as limited space as it has I am amazed this area was wasted. I also have run a sony head unit (the same one ) for 5 plus years and have had no problems with it. I own all sony stuff inside the house and out. I love sony products. I can't vouch for there car cd players but my home one is going on 5 years without a skip. Good luck
  16. I second that question. Although I ned a rear drivers quarter for a 78'. I have a big dent in right next to my tail light and it would be easier to replace rather than fix. Do they come in full quarter or just half? Thanks too.
  17. But for sporty and for winter driving, get the subaru. All wheel drive and I used to love mine in the winters.
  18. Sure you can paint Lexan. But I don't see why. It will protect the Lexan from getting scratched but the clearcoat will get scratched just as easily. Lexan can be buffed and polished if scratched. I don;t think that painting it would help at all. Maybe others differ. I make architectural models for a living and use plex for 99% of the models. Since both plex and Lexan are so similiar I feel that I have experience working with and painting. It does take paint really well though. Plus painting something that is to remain clear is hard. You have to make sure there is no dust and that your coat is perfectly even. Cause any little dust or uneveness will show and look like crap. You can probably get some kind of protective film to place over it. Not too sure. Good luck
  19. Tim, how did you clamp the metal in place to hold it while tacking? And you said just larger than the whole? Wouldn't it be just smaller than the whole? Thanks
  20. For what ever it is worth, that is my car in the pics on the JTR site. The radiator that Mike and I put in is great!!! I don't have a fan shroud and it still works well. Gets a little hot in traffic (bay area Stopped traffic) on warm to hot days. But just a little over half way. Not too hot at all. Plus mike has provisions to keep the shroud too. I just never got back to see him to do it. The radiator and brakets are in the 200.00 range so it is relativly cheap. His mounts kick butt too. They are zinc plated so won't rust and can be painted. Mine are still zinc cause I think it looks cool. It is a little tight around the throttle body but everything fits and nothing rubs. He also sells all the hoses and adapters (probably come with ). All in all there is no cutting or drilling involved for this to work and it was done in an hour or so.
  21. Mad Max meets carnival. WOW. And what is with the huge platform on the back of the vans? Traveling stage?
  22. British Victoria has a puss button trunk opener that goes in your car. I have also seen people use a hood release cable to work. Check out this link: http://www.power98.net/powerdoor/
  23. With the rent thing. I think that checking with the state you are in is a good thing to consider. I believe in some states if the rentee doesn't give the renter his/her deposit or funds back within 30 days then they have to pay double. I believe it is this way in Cali and Mass. You should be able to find renters information online. You might just have to take them to court though. Some people are just that mean. Good luck
  24. I have the same problem on my 280. I replaced the combo switch to no avail. I believe it is a bad ground but haven't been able to find wich one yet. I ordered the relays and sockets from http://www.danielsternlighting.com/ Haven't gotten around to putting them in yet. But from what everyone on here has said it is good to get the load taken off the switch and put on relays anyway. (brighter lights) I think I will find out where my gremlins are in the process. If it rains alot sometimes my low beams work too. So I think that I end up getting a ground wet or something and making the connection good for a little while. Good luck
