  1. There's nothing wrong with a 2,5" do why need to change ? You could just transition to 3" by transmission that's what most of us run. Looks like you have a 2.5 out. I do find it interesting how the wastegate dump is done on this especially since its an internal gate. Maybe I haven't been around long enough.
  2. I would that's too that thick though. And I wouldn't use those regular silicone couplers for intercoolers most of the ones I seen are too thin. Go a diesel turbo shop I'm sure you can find something sturdy yet not as thick. Remember stock turbo get pretty tight there especially at the clamp and oil line. Also the stock jpipe has a cool double clamp that holds on both ends its much more stable than having two separate clamps. If you don't find anything I believe I have an nice hose for you if you want cover the shipping and wait its yours for free. I think I have the double clamp too.
  3. And BTW I BUILD TURBOS TOO jk but for real I think bb spool better I just remember when shutting off the car I just bought today (bros car) I hear it spin for like 30sec. It never use to do that with the t3/t4 bb =less friction the way I'm looking it on the shaft = better spool! No? Since the gt30 is a great turbo why is it not much lseries setups running gt30 I mostly see t3/t4. Holsets and the 35r.
  4. Just want throw an update I appreciate all the input . today is a good day I was about to buy the gt30 then I took my brother old 240! Stroked /forged 3l complete car.its got a gt35 on and tons of other goodies. Last year he got dyno tuned at 400hp at 17 psi. The guy who bought I guess didn't like it his loss my gain.
  5. I didn't want to stir sh#t up. I had a feeling the gt30 I was looking at was more than capable to bring me to 350hp . The guy selling is coming off a rb25 and made 450hp at 15psi mind you the rb has way better head flow. I was asking for info and researching before pulling the trigger. My use however I don't care too much for quick spool it will be mostly 1/4 and pulls . And in a way I do prefer a bb not because its new and shiny its better technology, from the turbine and spool is way better ( from experience with my brothers setup) journal bearings have been around for quite some time now.
  6. What cam are you running ? is it a custom grind or like the MSA turbo cams? edit I just researched this turbo they come in both journal and ball bearing which are you running and what your AR?
  7. Hey we all got spoon fed as a babies. Thanks for the reply it was very informative. The good thing is I already have a nice 2.5" downpipe opening to 3" ,1ft resonator and magnaflow exhaust. I am not a bells and whistle type trust me this has been a budget build that's why its taken so long haha. You just gave me the extra push to rebuild that t3/t4 I got laying around which I could also retain my internal wastegate. Saves me some money for clutch and tune.
  8. So do you think the gt3071r is a bit to small . I'm highly considering the GT 30 because I got an awesome price on it At 600 its very tempting for a ballbearing slightly used. My brothers had .63 housing and a 58trim compressor wheel. I guess I could put smaller wheel. Xnke what do you mean by t350 wheel? Now I'm leaning to the rebuild it will probably cost just as much as to go with gt30.
  9. Last summer I got my project finished its a 71 l28et freshly built pretty much stock except bore over 1mm ,mild porting head/intake, ms2 fuel and spark. I was running 5psi in the beginning of the summer and by the end of summer I was pushing the turbo out of breather 15-17psi. I want to upgrade the turbo and would appreciate some feedback. My power goals are 280-330hp 1/4 mile and the occasional street push. My Options: -gt35r lots of member run this. Great turbo with room to grow later. Its a bit pricey but may be overkill for me. -gt3071r don't see much guys here with this turbo a friend has this and a kind get for a good price its turbine=.63ar compressor .50 a/r - t3/t4 my brothers old turbo needs a rebuild and new compressor wheel. He found this to be very laggy but I could just put a smaller compressor wheel since it needs one. I don't know I feel about a rebuilt turbo (balancing , seals etc..) I would appreciate your input specifically on the gt3071r don't see any info with l28et.
  10. I think your turbo is very close to brake line splitter. My turbo Is further , so was my brothers and we both had/have a bit of leaks. Brake oil is very thin and when that heats up it gets even lighter. Just look out for that. Keep up the progress bra.
  11. Thanks for your input skirkland, did the shop rebuild the same turbo and what caused the premature failure? What are the specs on your turbo? I am really stubborn and might give it a shot besides this turbo is already bad. I wont have too long of downtime cause I still have my stock t3. Now the question is what compressor wheel size to go with.
  12. Iam currently running the stock 280zx turbo at about 15psi my setup is l28et bored .5mm stock fresh rebuild, DIY light head/intake/ manfiold porting, ms2 edis, 440cc injectors, tial 50mm BOV, 240sx TB, 2.5 downpipe 3" from downpipe to muffler. I need a little more boost and hp, SO I have t3/t4 60trim T04E that I got from my brother that would need a rebuild. The compressor wheel is damaged so it would need to be replaced from my online reading I gathered it was a 60trim based on measuring and comparing garrett catalogue (the wheel has 2476 on back but that could be many others). Wheel diameter = 75 mm inducer diamater 58 mm. The housing has a part number stamped 466159-5004 ( I know that doesnt tell me much ) I dont know the a/r of housing I measured from center bored to center outlet its 70mm. Whats on the housing is a/r .60 m24 (but that could of been machined from the inside right?) I remember my brothers turbo setup would take a while to get full boost 17psi. The hot side I believe is stock t3 .I want to order a new compressor wheel but from what I read 60trim seems a little over kill what do you guys recommend? Where do you guys recommend a buy a compressor wheel and rebuild kit? Also has anyone here rebuilt there own turbos ? I saw a couple of videos and it doesnt seem that hard . I found this online garret catalogue i dont see a 50 trim (that everyone has) http://www.turbomaster.info/eng/applications/compressor.php
  13. Whats your opinions on running a fidanza aluminum flywheel on a turbo engine? I hear the heavier the better for launching and inertia when building boost. I got one sitting on the shelf but I was second guessing.
  14. update Got a big bar and plate ebay intercooler. 2.5" piping tial 50mm BOV electronic boost controller now boosting 15psi 440cc rb26dett injectors light porting no idea of hp feels like 270hp or 1/4 mile times since I have bad compression on #6 I blew the rings awhile back new plans of innovate wideband (sitting on the shelf) fidanza flywheel (sitting on the shelf) meth kit (sitting on the shelf) z32 tranny + clutch got any recommendations? bore to 3.0, forged pistons Iam going to head to the local drags this week and I will update...
  15. No we have not. However, I believe we have mutual zed buddies lol Iam not part of the Ontario z car club
  16. Im having issues with innovate lc1 as well. Same story just got my turboz running and went to wire it, The wideband was sitting for 2 years in the box I don't know if that had anything to do with it. Iam getting a 7.4 on my gauge and the sensor is not heating up I am leading to believe that it is the controller. I wish I never went with innovate at this point. I ordered another new sensor and will go from there.
  17. I bought this awhile ago when first reading the post. I finally installed and now running 10psi its a solid controller hold well no creep or spikes. Thanks Nigel
  18. I ended up getting the same kit but with 1 gallon tank thanks !
  19. I read its ok seen both ways done with or with out plugs for compression tests. Although, you can take wires out and fuel inj clips so your not flooding it. I would do your test again, do a wet test squirt about 5-10 ml of oil in cylinder and see what your numbers are.
  20. 280zx How do you like your cooling mist kit? Which one did you get the stage 1? How much boost are you running and power are you making. Also when is it injecting methanol?
  21. I searched this forum and found nothing on methanol . I am thinking about a methonal injection setup having ms2 control through the spare ports or LED. I guess the steps required are modifying the board to drive a relay. --> to methonal pump --->windshield washer reservoir---> high compression hose and nozzle and ofcourse programming MS at which variant. Just wondering if anyone has done this with ms2? I want a reliable kit DIY instead of dishing out on a kit $300+ My only concerns is reliability on pump and system, what pumps should I be looking for? I read people using windshield washer pumps rated at 40psi (i would think I need more than that) Also what size of nozzle should I use. My car is l28et, stock rebuild, ms2 edis stock turbo 3" exhaust 440cc injectors I plan running 17 psi with methanol.
