I just noticed that it no longer says Junior Member beneath my name, woohoo. I'm a real member now, but what I wonder is, at what point do we become real members as opposed to lowly jr. members?? I'm guessing that it has to do with posts.....Probably 30 being the magic number. Or is it a conglomerate of big wigs sitting around smoking cuban cigars and drinking 25 year old scotch going, "He's funny, lets give him a bump up in rank." Or, "This guy donated money that paid for half an inch of my cigar, lets show appreciation by giving him a cute nickname." Or maybe I'm just proving that I have no life and I'm a certifiable jacka$$ because I'm sitting here wondering these things. Of course it could be that I'm just bored cause it's too cold to work so I'm sitting at home doing nothing...... Later, Chuck

By drove do you mean actually went somewhere or does around the block count. I cruised around the block last week with the temp at 55 below with wind chill, 30 below without wind. The S130 does not like to start when it's that cold. But I gotta do it to make sure nothing freezes up.

Alright Mr. I live in an oversized state with warm weather, strange people, and no football teams worth mentioning much less being a fan of. Just wait till summer when you have eleventy billion degree heat and we barely break the ninetys, who's gonna cry then??
-
Ok that sucks, I just added myself to the frapper and I'm the only person in this part of the country.
-
Man what I wouldn't give for that nice warm weather, only 10 below. We've been on a streak here, avg. of like 25 below the last 2 weeks.

Wow, I'm jealous, mine has never worked, and I don't know what I'll do after I put the lexan in. By the way, holy crap, $900 for a full sheet of lexan with the anti scratch coat. My wife is gonna kill me when she finds out about that one......Ha ha ha

Max Jax 2 post Portable Lifts for 8' and under Ceilings
ckolander replied to 240hoke's topic in Miscellaneous Tech
Aw what the heck, I guess I'll just have to get them both. I'm gettin ready to pick up 6 1/2 acres for $12,000. The house I want to build is gonna cost me $150,000, and the garage/shop/man room is gonna cost about $45,000. Luckily for me this is all discounted because I work for the company that will be building my home and I'm taking care of all the prints. And heck, we can even pull about $10,000 back into my pocket for the paychecks I'll get while building my house. So that's where I'm headed this summer, and that 4 poster would be so nice, no more laying on my back to change oil, or transmissions, or to figure out what my wife is talking about when she says, "It's making a noise." -

This one, http://www.eautotools.com/D-7X-7-000-lbs-4-Post-Vehicle-Lift-p/d-7x.htm, 4 legs is better than 2, and it's $3,000 cheaper -
Yah you're pretty screwed there bud, I lost a yahoo account a couple years ago. Luck is on your side though, there is no limit to how many times you can try to figure out your password and or security questions there, type away.

Just stick them on there however you like the way they look....... I flipped all of mine over cause I thought it looked nifty till I do a clear flush mount lense conversion.

Ok, I had the same problem, I'm kind of a big guy. My solution, pull the little cover off the door side of the seat, there will be a black bolt right in front of you and it will be broken(it was on mine). Pull this bolt and replace it with new bolt(I used a 375 grade a). Now my seat worky again. I can't remember the exact size of the bolt but it was a fat sucker. If you want a good replacement I know that Autozone has a thread checker panel in every store. Other than that I don't know what to tell ya. Oh and put a nut on the backside and tighten it fairly snug, it'll make the seat movement stiffer, but will lessen the chances of it breaking again. Or you can just wedge a 4x4 behind the seat to your desired position and cope with it(I did this for about 6 months until I pulled my seats out to remove my moldy carpet. Stupid leaky window seals.

Replacing glass with Lexan, Question
ckolander replied to waddiejohn's topic in S30 Series - 240z, 260z, 280z
I'm just not sure how it will work with what I want to do with mine. I want to weld my hatch shut and make the window open. Also thinking about putting the quarters on hinges and having them open at the rear like some trucks do. Just not sure how I'm gonna work those out yet. Maybe actuators like my wife's van has for the rear windows, and hinges and latch out of an older gmc jimmy.............oooh, I think I can do that. -
Does anybody else stay up untill 1 am on HybridZ?

Replacing glass with Lexan, Question
ckolander replied to waddiejohn's topic in S30 Series - 240z, 260z, 280z
I'm glad that somebody brought this up cause I was thinkin about replacing all side and rear glass with lexan. But if it will scratch that easily, then it's no go. Is there any other lightweight replacements for glass that will not scratch easily?? -
I know I know, nobody likes MSA, however they finally produced a front end worthy of gettin a chubby over. http://www.thezstore.com/page/TZS/PROD/LNP1/50-1444 Now others may not agree, but I like this, it's smooth an sleek.

So again this is probably a stupid question, but is the tranny the same between the 280z('78??) and a 79 280zx?? Strangely enough I can completely teardown and put everything back together but if you ask me to explain how I do it, no can do. If you ask me what a certain part is called, I'll give you a combo of deer in the headlights and nobody's home blank stare. Hell it even annoys the hell out of me 90% of the time. Do you know how bad it is to carry a 3 page printout to the auto parts store because if you don't you'll end up having to describe what the part looks like and what it does in order to figure out what to buy.............
-
Ok Ok Ok, so the t5 will fit, but I'm getting mixed reviews on it. I happen to like the tranny I have I would just prefer a shorter throw on it. I'm not a super duper race car driver, I'm just an idiot who likes to go fast. Now I know that there was a thread of somebody who short shifted this tranny, but I couldn't figure out what he did. Can anybody give me any pointers??? Thanks, Chuck

If you do decide to sand/strip down to bare metal, buy a few cans of that rust to primer stuff(spray is easiest) and immediately lightly coat all bare metal with it. Otherwise you will get flash rust. And yes, I am speaking from personal experience. Then shoot primer over it as soon as you can.

Unfortunately, people in my family never sell their Z's, just buy more, and then give them to family, he also has a early '70's 240 with triple carbs that he bought showroom, he calls it,"you stupid sonufab!tch why wont these carbs work." At least that's all he says when he tries to drive/fix/tinker with it. Oh, and his Z's are kept as mint as possible, I've never even seen any rust on his cars, even in problem areas................If only he liked me more, then they would be mine....

They may impose "emissions standards" federally, but in a state which has one of the lowest populations in the country, and also is the richest state in the union(only 3 states are not in debt and ND is up top). I honestly don't think that smog laws will be taken seriously. Of course I'm only an hour away from Canada, I could just have my friend register it there, I mean heck, I'm already trying to find a GT-R from up there.

Hello to all........ I was looking underhood of my '79 280zx, pretty much stock-ish, and noticed again that it looks very cluttered with all of the vacuum lines all over the place. I was wondering if there was any way of removing some of them?? I live in a state with no emissions laws so my first thought was to rip out everything emissions related, but upon reading further in my Chilton and Haynes(yes I bought both, I'm a little anal about my car), they both said that all emissions equipment are vital to the vehicle running well. I am hesitant to hurt my baby just to find out whether or not this is true and figured that someone else here had probably tried it and would know the answers to the questions I have. So now, does anyone know either what stuff can make like Houdini and escape, or how in the world can I reroute all the vacuum stuff/hoses to clean up the engine bay. Oh, and note to anyone thinking about trying to relocate the battery, it's a P.I.T.A. Thanks everyone, Chuck

Ok, by slicktop you mean not a t-top correct???? I have a '79 280zx with a real roof and I'm guessing that's not as rare as say my uncles '83 turbo with "?slicktop?" oh and he's the original owner. He preordered it from the dealership and got basically the first one off the boat.

I'm sorry but I just need to interject a couple of things....... I just moved almost 2000 miles away from the Fresno area because there really are no jobs there. It's been exactly a year since my former job(I'm a carpenter) told me, "Go home, we have no more work for you." I couldn't even get a job at McDonalds after that happened. Weren't the Z's(all of them) designed for Autocross??? I come from a Z family(Grandpa, Great Uncle, Uncles, Aunt, Cousin, and Me, all own Z's) and we all at some point get into Autocross in them with minimal modification. I raced my uncles until I bought mine. As far as the horsepower issue.....get a tune up, lose some weight in the car, and read up on everything you can here, there is a treasure of knowledgeable people here(and believe it or not, it's not all old farts here.) Also, if you have a girlfriend, get rid of her, she's extra weight when you drive, and she costs money you could be spending on your car..........

I love your method of fixing things, seriously. I wish I could afford to fix problems by replacing broken with new and better. Congrats on "easily" finding the problem and fixin it.
