  1. What throwout bearing collar are you running? That's not the fault of the clutch disc.
  2. 550$? for what? Fidanza 240mm flywheel is 285$ http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/Fidanza-flywheel-Nissan-240Z-260Z-280Z-280ZX-Pickup_W0QQcmdZViewItemQQcategoryZ33732QQihZ004QQitemZ140190516055QQrdZ1QQsspagenameZWDVW (That's a great deal, normal street price was about 350$ until a couple of ebay guys started selling for cheap.) The only other part you need is a 12$ throw out bearing collar from Courtesy Nissan.... Go for it man, you won't regret it! I'm actually in the process of putting a new friction plate on my extra Fidanza and putting it on my 76 this morning.
  3. It's a pretty reasonable mistake, seeing as how My Country Tis of Thee is set to the -same- melody. Not much way you could know without being told.
  4. Are you saying the MAP reading on a smaller plenum is inaccurate or that the larger plenum creates lag?
  5. Haha, I'm with you there. Overboard is my middle name. From what I've heard you'll have some idling problems with anything that large, but again, I'll leave that to people who have actually run them. Another option (which megasquirt supports with dual tables) is a second set of injectors. A friend of mine here is going to attempt that - he has Joel's old TWM setup and he's going to use the extra set of injector bungs AND the original set. If you're using the EV1 style connectors, don't buy your pigtails from them! I sell them for less than 30% of what they are charging (look on ebay). That's highway robbery!
  6. You should run the smallest wheel that will cover your brakes, according to the suspension bible. That said, it is pretty hard to find really good tires in 14" sizes now. But there is some selection in 15" and there is a pretty decent selection in 16". 12.2" rotors fit under a 16" so brakes are no excuse to go higher than that - bigger than vented 12.2" rotors on a Z is just showing off. PS - this question has come up before - search before asking next time.
  7. Phil you should ask Joel S. about idling problems. I think he was running 680's or 720's. You know, you shouldn't have to go nearly as large as you would without methanol...I'd spend the money on a computer to control your methanol spray instead. Better methanol control would let you push a lot farther with the same size injectors.
  8. You're running an L24 block now? I would definitely use the L28 block with fuel injection. There's no reason you can't trouble shoot fuel injection, it's pretty simple. If you stick with stock, here is your bible: http://www.amazon.com/Bosch-Fuel-Injection-Engine-Management/dp/0837603005/ref=sr_1_6?ie=UTF8&s=books&qid=1197598572&sr=8-6 I use Megasquirt, though. I think your friend may have been exaggerating on your expected HP numbers, seeing as the stock 77-78 came with the N42/N47 combo + EFI and made around 170bhp/140whp. Where does he expect to pick up another 80hp? Most people aren't willing to spend the money it takes to build a 250hp NA motor, even if we're talking crank hp.
  9. Actually I'm looking at a Husky too! A friend of mine has one and he tears that thing up. I just need a little more cash (in grad school right now) because instead of saving I basically spent every cent I earned in the last couple years on my cars. I would love to do a trip like this. My motorcycle camping trips have just been on my cruiser; they are fun, but we have to pass all the dirt fireroads in MS and it's crying shame. Depending on how things go this semester we might have to talk...a trip like that would be amazing.
  10. It's not as difficult as you think man...check this book out: http://www.amazon.com/Automotive-Electrical-Handbook-HP-387/dp/0895862387/ref=sr_1_7?ie=UTF8&s=books&qid=1197447076&sr=8-7
  11. Not to sound like a cynic, but as soon as you said "no rust, but I haven't seen it" I -knew- this is what you were going to find. I've heard that one so many times that "no rust" automatically translates into "unsalvagable" to me now. Oh well, don't give up.
  12. http://www.advrider.com/forums/showthread.php?t=269251 I don't want to ruin anything, so just trust me and start reading. The pics are amazing and the story gets really intense.
  13. That looks nice enough to be a brochure photo, Ron! Don't let anyone rob you.
  14. You guys that connected to the throttle linkage on the firewall instead of replacing it...how does the pedal feel? I want to make sure when I do this that the pedal is really tight and smooth.
  15. Haha! Not quite the same finesse as in the Isuzu commerical, is it?
  16. It's 5am, been working on a paper for the last 12 hours and I had to see this video for some inspiration...never gets old. Someone needs to work on one with Z's.
  17. Could be ball joints, alignment, unbalanced wheels, defective tires, worn inner or outer tie rods, worn rack or pinion, or any combination. Good luck.
  18. Thanks for posting that - very nice.
  19. Actually, they might have, from the factory. The problem is you have adjust them on a regular basis...and how do you figure out how much to adjust them by with only one O2 reading? Maybe I'll have to go with twin turbos just to have 2 different DP's to take O2 readings from.
  20. I haven't really gotten my hands dirty with the 6TB setup yet, so I don't know all the issues I will run into. But I was under the impression that you could just adjust the throttle plates to compensate for this problem.
  21. Yes, because it's an entertaining video from a long time ago. Not because we think it's ok to steal cars or run from the police. I don't see how you think the cops did well - they endangered all the other drivers on the road and the kid got away from them, as was pointed out. It's been years since I read the story about it, but I am pretty sure it was "stolen" from the kid's dad. That's why the plates DID help them arrest the kid, and they didn't return the car because it was already returned. The incompetence demonstrated doesn't bother me nearly as much as the way it was edited to lie to us. It reminds me of how they edited foreign movies shown in Communist Russia to change the plots. Propaganda.
