  1. I was a kid, we were playing football and my friend put a very large dent in a car with his head. It wasn't in a Z, but the point was if he had done a header into a roll bar pipe instead he'd probably be dead. No, do you? All I can say is I have seen stars after smacking my head INSIDE A HELMET on the door frame at an autox. So clearly someone 6' tall can smack the side of the car HARD without any additional encroachment. I can only imagine that if I had a roll bar in there and were not wearing a helmet the damage to my head would have been much worse. If that's not good enough for you then fine. It's your head, do whatever you want with it. I'm just trying to relate my experience. I don't believe the padding is going to do very much either. So we're in agreement there. So what I'm saying is don't put a roll cage in your car if you don't drive with a helmet. Roll bar behind the seat is OK as long as the seat back keeps your head from contacting the hoop.
  2. Hoses normally come long IME. You almost always have to trim them.
  3. There is only one on a US version 240. There is a plug in the side of it. You unscrew it and you'll see that it has a long needle with a spring on it. Cut that part off, and screw it back in. That's it.
  4. The Thing is a classic. I rented that and watched it again about 6 months ago. My wife had never seen it. Needless to say the opening scene sucked her in completely. Great movie.
  5. That doesn't look like the same flares that were discussed in the other thread to me. Those look like those weird curved front/box flare in back flares. I think they were by Kaminari, and they had the squarish wheel openings.
  6. Not a single FI intake manifold. Sorry. Jaime, I'll let my brother-in-law (Mat) know what you're after and have him sign up here and PM you. There were fenders that still had the headlight bucket attached, and some that didn't, you two can work all that stuff out. Hatches are complete with glass. Lots of extra glass around. If you guys need a side or quarter window or hatch glass I think I know where you can find it. I'll get some pics up in a bit for you guys. This stuff isn't really all put away yet either, so I can't tell you what Mat's schedule is looking like before he starts selling everything. Also there was some discussion of ebaying a lot of it as that can bring higher prices.
  7. I watched the Datsun Alley Z31T run down a GT1 Mustang at the track once. I never had much respect for the Z31 until I saw that. There was an article comparing the 240 to the Z31 with respect to IT racing a couple years back. On paper they look quite different but turns out they were pretty compatible on the track, or so the article said...
  8. Oh, I thought you literally meant a radiator for the brake fluid.
  9. IIRC you can unscrew the guts out of the stock PV and just cut them off. Then put the plug back in. I think that works fine. I removed my stock one and put the adjustable one right in it's place though. Unless you're endurance racing you really don't need to be messing with the PV all the time anyway.
  10. Didn't read the article but I've heard about a similar setup that would cycle the caliper fluid through and back to the master. I know Joe Demers wrote the article and designed the brake thingy so I wouldn't expect it to be anything other than a great idea. I almost considered subscribing to the magazine just to see what it was. Main problem I can see is that the rotors and pads will still suffer. A friend of mine who races a 510 started a race weekend with slotted rotors and some Hawk pads that were made for very high temps. By the end of the weekend his slots were gone. If you had a bigger caliper and pad and a rotor that could dissipate the heat you could run a milder pad compound and not have that problem.
  11. I think this post is clear proof that people aren't looking in the FAQ section. Maybe it would be a good idea for the FAQ's to also be stickies in the appropriate forum. http://forums.hybridz.org/showthread.php?t=103767
  12. I've seen sheet metal bend around sombody's head. Never seen a roll bar pipe bend for somebody's head. But really the problem isn't the material that your head is hitting, it's how much space is encroached upon by the design of the rollbar. So your much more likely to hit your head at all with a roll bar than without. Have you noticed how tall cars are these days? Ever wonder why? Might have something to do with hitting your head in the case of an accident...
  13. Just finishing unloading the truck and trailer tonight. (the seller) is a super nice guy. He let us borrow his trailer when it became apparent that we were running out of room, and I also used his welder to fix up a rack that broke during the move. Oh, I can tell you why 280s are heavier than 240s now. Jeez those bumpers/doors/exhaust manifolds are HEAVY!!! Stuff is as rudypoochris describes. Not too much go fast stuff, but a hell of a lot of good parts, along with a lot of junk. I don't know why he kept 20 something 280Z bumpers, but they're there. Got to finish unloading and return the truck. Man are my muscles tired, this is the most physical exertion in at least 15 years. That was a **** load of parts. A big **** load...Probably won't be back online until Wed. or so.
  14. 850T tends to burn exhaust valves or at least they did when new, they also burned the front tires off the car really fast. Other than that I don't recall any particular problems. Worked for a Volvo dealer around 98 or so.
  15. I stitch welded my control arms. Don't know if that was overkill or not, but I figured it couldn't hurt.
  16. http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20050929/ap_on_re_us/socal_wildfires My dad called today and said they were evacuated last night. Apparently this is a pretty bad one. I've been real busy the last couple days and didn't even know this was going on. Apparently sounds like the entirety of Chesebro Canyon from Agoura all the way out to Simi Valley is on fire, plus some in Calabasas too. Not good. I was working off of Lost Hills road when the last big Malibu fire started right there. Sounds like this fire is already in that area. I haven't seen this one on the news or anything, but it sounds like all it's going to take is a little Santa Ana to send this sucker right down into Malibu again. Looks like Bastaad's going to have to wash some ash off of his new SRT4...
  17. So that would be a modded ST bar then IIRC. I know I bought some swaybars for my Toy pickup and they were ST.
  18. Check the number on the block and the number on the head. The head number is towards the front on the passenger side. I think the block number is near the oil filter. Very common to swap the older carbs without swapping anything else. So it might be that, or it might be an L28 with SU's or an L28 with an L24 head and carbs.
  19. Or you could get a 3.54 R200 that should run you $50-$75, then buy the LSD separately from http://www.differentials.com for $550 and all you would need is carrier bearings to install it. Probably run you $650 when its all done but at least the LSD would be new.
  20. Or you could run dual exhaust...
  21. Saner performance is the only one offering them that I'm aware of. I tried to get ahold of them once and didn't have any luck. You could buy a non adjustable bar and weld an adjustable end on it.
  22. Another thought: Could you put a thick spacer between the bell housing and the input shaft to get the appropriate spacing?
  23. Inner mounts high and outer mounts low gives you a HIGH roll center. If the inner pivots are lower than the outer pivots that gives you a LOW roll center. Between your design and BlackBeaut's you guys are really doing some interesting things to this rear suspension. Very nice work, both of you.
  24. Could you get a custom clutch disk with a different spline setup? I seem to remember someone here doing that to use a different transmission with a stock flywheel. 10,000 rpm clutch maybe? I'm a little fuzzy on it, but you might search and find something.
  25. Why can't you just have the end of the long shaft cut down and new pilot and splines machined onto it? I've heard of people resplining axles for shortened housings on tubbed drag cars, this doesn't seem fundamentally any different.
