5 mph off-add 1 more tooth to the speedo gear on end of speedo cable.get gears at nissan dealer -about $15.you can check calibration on chassis dyno or use hand held gps unit.my speedo in my 77z is +2 at 80 mph.car has a 82na trans with 3.7lsd rear.

i havent bought parts from them for years.they did overnight a drive shaft for me though-i had a open track day in 2 days and bought a driveshaft with replaceable joints.i have a local nissan dealer with a good parts manager that knows z's and gives me less 20%.so i dont deal with msa.if you mail order or phone order parts always ask them to check stock 1st.that way you can decide if you want it back ordered or not.most places will back order and not tell you till you call them back to complain about an incomplete order.i dont get a catalog from them but my car is not for bling.i dont have cupholders or a stereo.i am to busy driving.

the reason a l28 wont run like a 4 valve toyota supra motor-its the head.some guys run a n42 head on turbo engine with stock pistons.or get rid of dished pistons.if the hybrid z guys could order about 5 or 10 thousand cylinder heads maybe edelbrock or afr would make us a dohc head. -
i california even n42 had egr .i have 1 but is has egr.

i just spent a few hours modifying a p47 intake for my turbo engine.i cut the egr pad off and welded a square piece of aluminum in its place.non-egr manifold are scarce in cali.then ground out the mouth for bigger throttle body.then i ground out those nubs in the intake runners that the injectors hold down screws run into.then i ground the injector bosses off and bored out injector holes for o-ring injectors.then jb weld some holes back up.i got about 6 hours in this thing and it looks kind of stock.runners are 31.75mm to 32 mm at the head now.fyi-that overboost valve on stock zxt manifold should be replaced by a 1" pipe plug.stock zxt manifold has too much uneeded stuff on it.

socal gas is expensive-if the boost isnt turned up try 87.if it pings try 89.i ran 12 psi on 91 with stock 81zxt motor for a long time.but that was on chevron gas that cost more.buy gas from a station that pumps alot of fuel.

i would rather spend money on a track day than in court.anything over 100mph in california is reckless driving.so watch out on the r1-the chp likes to impound things lately.for 30 days. -

front washes out-need smaller front sway bar.if car is too stiff it wont bite.i have no problems heating up 225/50-15 kumho v700's.probably wouldnt be my choice for a race tire but since i only screw around with open track days and driver's schools it is the best bang for the buck.try more negative -like 3 to 4 degrees -camber.most race cars these day use stiff springs with little or no sway bar.a well sorted street z on kumho's should be able to outrun slower classes of trailer queens-i have done it. -
i had a 240mm oem style daiken clutch in my 77/81zxt for a long time.it slipped when i did a balls out drag race start at sacramento on a wednesday night.then it slipped on a dyno pull once and had to give up the dyno run.probably the oem style clutch or a kragens rebuild isnt up to drag racing on a turbo engine.but look at it a different way-if the clutch grabbed you would have broke the cheesy little u-joints on oem style driveshaft-i changed a u-joint for another hybridz bro that night.drag racing eventually costs money-that shock load you send down the drive line eats parts.i bought a act 240mm street clutch thats supposed to be good for 400hp .i havent checked it out yet but it shudders a little and is stiffer pedal.it will be checked on the dyno soon.

more than 1 california smog tech on here?that tech didnt know what he was doing-complain to bar.if i remember correctly the aldl connector was in the console on fiero.if you take it to another shop and it gets fixed correctly make sure to keep your paperwork for bar complaint.and if you have a copy of the smog test from last year that will help.i have a california smog license.most of the young smog techs dont know squat -the just went to the same cheesy trade school.iwould take it to ls1 z shop-he probably has a very thorough understanding of gm efi systems.i am a ford guy.

280zxt did not have a cold start injector like na motor.it wont run rich.if the o2 sensor and proper thermostat is in place the ecm will correct itself.the ecm does not have a monitor system for the aac valve being disconnected-removed.the ecm doesnt care.if you put a low temp thermostat in it the ecm will run on open loop-meaning no control by o2 sensor.put a 180 or 192 thermostat in it and make sure 02 sensor has proper output.car will run fine.

jjohart-the repair shops dont want to work on old cars.due to the mitchell manual time per job system the shops are only interested in work that involves removing and replacing parts.since the coming of cars with obd2 most techs only know how to plug the scan tool in and change parts.so you are either forced to learn your cars efi and other systems or get a late model car.a good book to get if you can find it is the 81zxt (will work on 82 or 83)factory tech supplement for turbo cars.it was a nissan dealer manual that was a supplement for the factory service manual.i have 1.i wont sell it -its a rare find.unless you can find a nissan only shop with a grey haired old z tech i wouldnt bother with repair shops.if you are lean there are many things to check.fuel, pressure WHILE driving-not just idleing.most old z's were sold before the gas had any injector cleaner added-if you have old injectors get them cleaned & flow tested.visual inspect connectors-for corrosion.if you short the o2 sensor output then the ecm goes to full rich at closed loop-best to fix the correctly.

a buddy invited me to watch his new boat engine get dynoed at westech performance group.the place that the car mags dyno thier engines.engine is a big block short deck chevy with 555 cubes.runs on pump 91 octane.runs a short tunnel ram and 2 750 holleys.built by dne motorsports in costa mesa.after some break in running first pull was 790hp at 6100 rpm .after tuning and synthetic oil change made 802 at 6100.hp was over 700 by 5000 rpms.almost 800lb/ft of torque with over 700 by 5000.engine didnt idle bad at 1200 rpm and always started with a tap of the key and no throttle.i always wanted to check out a real dyno room for awhile.this would be fun in a z.loaded motor minus header weighed 675 lbs-it was hanging from a scale going into the boat.might get a ride in the boat next weekend.boat is a 19' jetpump boat.i know some import motors have made this much hp but not this much torque and not at such a low rpm.i would get thrown i jail driving a car with this much motor.probably will never be in a dyno room again unless i hit the lottery and its one of my own motors.but i had to do it once.

i bought a megasquirt unit a month ago but havent run it yet.motor is apart.will be using a hall sensor and magnets to fire it though.hopefully it will work but i am not a computor geek and moving files around and reprogramming ecms doesnt excite me.since i work as a auto tech my mind sees dollar signs when my time gets wasted(due to the flat rate pay system).was going to buy a sds since they have enough faith in it to run experimental airplanes on it.when i down load megatune i cant find the correct version for mss-e but i will work on it more.working on cars isnt a hobby for me-car must be able to run 100+mph for miles with no maintenence.hopefully the mss wil work.

i run 250lb rear and 225 front-car is daily driver.springs are 12" .shocks are illuminas.front sway bar is 15/16.rear is 7/8.car drives good on the street and can run good on the track.might try 300s in rear and 250s in front.track tires are kumho v700 225/50-15.the illumunas will wear fast(40000 miles)with stiff springs.

the faster the car is the faster your reactions have to be to attempt to catch the spin.being able to afford a fast car does not exempt you from the laws of physics. -
i think mostly this post is about installing a newer engine in a pre 75 car and the fact that even though the car doesnt need a biannual inspection the car legally still has to have the correct smog equipment for the engine that is installed in the car.the refs wont require a car that didnt originally have cats to have them installed because the floor of the car wont take the heat.they would probably overlook some 02 simulators in this case as long as the ecm didnt throw codes.as far as abs inputs you could input the same signal for all wheels from 1 speed sensor-and that could run off of a rear half shaft.an example-76 z with obd2 ls1 chevy.you would use 1 cat under oem heat shield.but it could be a 3.5" cat that could be used as a muffler.you would mount both banks of cat monitor 02s behind the single cat.it wont throw codes.the hardest part of swap would be the gas tank purge system.but most cars just have a flow sensor and purge valve that is in the purge line between the tank and the engine.if the ecm detects a leak in the system it will throw a code.you really wanted to fix all the leaks in the old z car evap system didnt you?the obd2 system will detect very small evap system leaks.most of this is just knowing how the systems work and how to make it work with out throwing codes.

somebody should call him and tell him he won some free tickets.then tell him where to pick them up-in a dark alley .he could meet my aluminum baseball bat.when i used to repo cars we used to call people and ask them thier address so we could send them a coupon for a free pizza.that worked every time.people move but keep the same number.call his cell phone service and report his phone as stolen so it gets shut off.

the paint was peeling in my oil pan so i had it hot tanked to remove all of the paint.probably wont put any kind of coating on inside of pan.

i am surprised she didnt just give the hummer more throttle and finish the bike off.i always give women driving suvs lots off room while riding my bike.you never know when they will change lanes on top of you.when you see an suv with the tv screens down loaded full of kids while mom is on the cell phone you know she isnt paying attention to driving.

was going to use 81 cas but i got a cherry hall sensor and magnets .so i have 2 81zxt cas units laying around.

so its best to work on megasquirt with windows 98 or me but not xp-so much for getting a new computor.my old(vintage 1998) gateway has windows me on it .it has a file corrupted by a virus-i think i might just reload the windows me again.or put this old thing on a cart to work on my car with and get the new computor anyway.

get my insurence bill on my 96 ford e150 van.went up $240 a year.so i figure i will just switch companies.my girlfriend insures my z because she tells her insurence company her daughter drives it.my driving record-45 years old ,single,no tickits, no accidents.so i call 1 company-its a little cheaper.i call aaa-was alot cheaper but they call me back with new quote because of a claim about some gravel i was hauling back if 2003.the guy said he needed a new windshield-i gave him my insurence # .there wasnt a police report on it.what i am pissed off about-i would really like to know how many computors are sharing information about me.next they will give me an outragous quote because i am unemployed/self employed even though i dont tell them.i will have to go pull a dmv printout to see if my insurence company (farmers )reported the gravel claim to the dmv.soon somebody will have to print a book on how to keep off of computor databases.
