  1. garrett has a line of new turbos out with ball bearings and more up-to-date turbine & compressor wheels.seen them advertised on a website but cant remember where.not cheap-like $1300 or so.i am sure that if you sized a modern turbo up correctly(not to big) you could get some very fun low end torque .
  2. best way to scare people is to invite them for a ride at a track day.a good lap around laguna seca or thunder hill usually turns most people white.when i had my boat i liked to take people for rides-100+mph in a 18' boat is fast.
  3. i got a check for $22000 for a boat i had for sale from some scammers in uae.i just told them that they just paid $22k for a $15k boat and i am keeping the money.never heard back from them.my bank charged me $6 for depositing their hot check.i figuered there was only a 1% chance the check was good anyway.
  4. thanks for heads up.those seals were used on ford ranger pick ups.i have a motor that i am installing that has sat for years and the seals will get changed.
  5. i dont know about hp numbers but before i put the turbo motor in my 77 i did some work on the na 2.8 and it ran good .beat a 94 camaro with v8/auto in a drag race.i just put in new injectors,injector plugs,gutted the cat,built a good distributor with a better advance curve.car ran very well.with out that nasty afm meter ,some cam and compression a well tuned na car should run fine.need to put on a bigger throttle body though..if i could have a fleet od ist gen z's 1 of them would have a efi 3.1l na motor that was well built.
  6. more stunt bike pilots on hybrid z?keep the shiny side up.i prefer to keep front wheel down on my fz1 but sometimes i cant help it.
  7. the syncro assemblys for 5th gear in 75-78 z used a porsche style syncho vs brass cone ring on later zx trans.the early 75 to 78 trans had a low 1st & 2nd, then a jump to 3RD ,4th is 1to 1,5th not much od.i found out at sears point that the gap between 2nd & 3rd wasnt good.82/83 zx trans works best.closer ratios and more od in 5th.as far as 240,260 five speed-never saw 1.some of the nissan comp trans had special ratios but are very rare.i rebuild my own trans-usually the countershaft bearings wear from leak at speedo gear drivei run zx na trans behind turbo motor with 3.7 lsd rear.drives great.
  8. i bought mine direct from ground control.since it is a owner operated business i believe it is best to buy direct from the source.the owner races cars with his own parts.the coil over kits on my z have been on for many years and the collars never jam even when dirty.i told them what i was using the car for( street + open track days)and the car handles very well.if you have a problem they will help out quickly.basically the stuff was developed for road racing but the import crowd discovered thier products for getting thier cars really low.front camber plates work welland dont rattle like cheap carrera plates i had on the rear.you need very good quality strut cartridges to work with coil overs because of the need for more rebound dampening(control of stiff springs).iif i was going to build another z that never went on track or ran on autox i would skip the coil overs and just use lowering springs.less noise transmitted into the body.i use 12" 225 lbs springs in front and 12" 250 in rear.front sway bar is 7/8.rear is 3/4.
  9. what type of bov do they use on the world rally cars-the are probably controled by the ecm.while looking at specs for new efi system most state that the will control a bov.i like the noise they make.
  10. the mercedes injectors (280 150 036) were also used on mercury high perf 2.5 outboard motors.there is a bosch #280 150 042 that flows more and is still a barb style(hose on top ) injector.the 42 lb ford injectors on ebay came from a 2003 lightning f150.the plastic on the top is light green.the problem with a z is most injectors are for newer car and are o-ring style so the fuel rail has to be changed.you can find places like kinsler that sell injectors at a good price because they are suppliers for racing /off road use expect you to know what you are ordering
  11. i am an old geezer and just got a ps2 because the tracks or very accurately reproduced on the games.spent 4 hours last night/this morning playing gt3.the only problem is starting out with no points .had to use a pt cruiser -but it beat some 1.3 liter euro econoboxs anyway.and it took me 1/2 hour just to get the game going.when you get over 40 theses things take time.would rather drive my z at laguna instead-its easier.

  13. has anybody triggered an aftermarkit efi system with the 81 zxt crank trigger/wheel?if so what system was used.haltech is supposed to be able to use a mag trigger.grinding 2 teeth out of the wheel would locate tdc for the ecm.
  14. fuel milage is more about the weight of a vehicle(in town driving) or aerodynamics.my 77z with 81zxt engine has got 24 mpg on trips running fast with ac.newer (96 up) cars with obd2 run engines very lean.many times a vehicle with a bigger motor will get the same or better milage than a vehicle with a small engine.best example is a 4 cylinder jeep vs a 6 cylinder.the 6 gets better.i dont know about a v8 z though.maybe if you keep the revs down with a 6 speed trans.newer corvettes get better milage than old z cars on the freeway.engine in the vette is turning under 2000 rpms in 6th at 70mph.
  15. if you are a pick&pull kind of guy look at a early 90's tbird sc.there are 4 big holes tapped into the block of l28 on left side for ac compressor brackit.mount could go on there.the stock efi wont give enough fuel.would need at least a z31 maf efi system and bigger injectors or aftermarkit efi system.do you like to weld-fab?this is what hybrid z is about.
  16. i am lazy-i just swapped the back cover and bolted it in.i know that finned cover looks cool but i dont like to work that hard.
  17. my 77 has had a l28et in it for about 9 or 10 years.after lots of abuse and trying to keep old datsun electroncs working it blew a head gaskit last winter.after estimating cost to put aftermarkit efi system,injectors,lm1 unit to tune it its going to be some bucks to make it run like a late model car.there is a jdm engine place about 80 miles away that has a 98 nissan gloria front clip for $1500.clip is very complete -even has radiator .engine is a vq30det with 5 speed auto trans.the nissan gloria=infinety q 45 with a turbo v6 since the japanese tax on engine displacment.i have mig welder ,drill press,saws and do some fab work any way.the auto trans wouldnt bother me-since the population growth in my town all you do is sit at stop lights.and turbos and auto trans work good together-stab and steer.if i do this i have lots of l28et stuff to sell.

  19. since i used to work at a ford dealer and smogged the used cars i got to drive a few.1 spring morning i got a honda s2000 .had to go for donuts and a test drive .i really liked that car.i have owned a 70 datsun 2000 roadster,mgb,alfa spider and the honda was just best modern version of an open 2 seater.
  20. make sure ign timing is at low end of spec.if engine has egr valve make sure its working.decarbonize the pistons with a chemical cleaner.try the 100 gas.

  22. i didnt get married till i was 26 .never had kids.got rid of ex after she forged my name on a pre-appproved credit card and ran it up to $2600 in 3 weeks.plus she gained about 50 lbs and didnt cook so it was time to move on.been going out with my present girlfriend for 11 years.she owns her own house and i own mine.we have a good time together and leave it at that.we never talk about marrage.if you guys love your play toys(cars and other stuff) stay away from women.since i live close to nevada i could always check out 1 of the ranches.
  23. on my 77 turbo i put the muffler under the heat shield for the cat convertor.i used a 19" long oval 3" magnaflow.just the right tone-low and gets quiet under boost.no drone on the freeway.dont need no muffler at the back of the car-it looks cleaner with out it.after the muffler there are 2 3" 90 mandrel bends and a piece of straight pipe.
  24. if i was going to put a 4 cylinder in a z body the body would have to be a early(70-73) style.then the theme would be to keep the car as light as possable.
  25. bikes -i have 2.1 for street and 1 for mexico.my fz1 is my street cruiser.it makes 130+ at the wheel but its 500 lbs.very nice riding bike though and cruises at 100 mph nice.never can have enough motorized playtoys but i sold my most dangerous toy.i really miss it though.
