  1. I broke one completely when I spun on a highway on-ramp back when I used to drive fast on the street. Broke wheel and upright just like you did. Wheel versus curb in a full spin going backwards did it for mine.
  2. 2.54 OS Giken? Tell us about that? I just saw your edit to 3.54-darn. I was hoping (excitedly) that someone had found a source for longer legs in an R200. Back to reality.
  3. Just drive it as it is. The year or two you spend stiffing the chassis for 1% improvement could be better realized without any chassis improvements, but with a 50% improvement in driver experience. I don't know if you really realize how much work you are signing up for....
  4. Planning southern half of 2-week family California motor tour. Need help deciding where to stay/where to avoid. Traveling as family of 4 in a minivan. We will be leaving Pismo Beach motel on June 14, going to the Landspeed Hall of Fame near Santa Barbara, then hugging the coast down thru LA beaches, probably staying one night in the Santa Monica/Venice area, then heading thru Huntington and on down to LaJolla and SanDiego for 2 nights. Then heading into inland LA to see Hollywood stuff, Petersen Museum, SoCal Speedshop and Lebrea Tar Pits for 2-3 nights, then heading home. I'm looking for decent motels/hotels or cheaper vrbos in places where I won't accidentally put my family in gangland/drugland out of ignorance. Vrbos and Airbnb look good at face value, but the cleaning fees and arbitrary fees and security deposits can be amazing. I looked at one last night that was $150 a night, but you had to write a check for $750 to actually stay there! I'm hoping to spend about $150-200 actual dollars per night if I can. Maybe up to $275 if it is something really cool for that last 3-night portion. Advice?
  5. Update. Got reservations for rental minivan to pick up at SFO and drop off at LAX. That hurt-could buy used S30 for the cost of that but we will be in and out of the car for 2 weeks, so I think that is money well spent. Staying 3 nights at Vrbo near Golden Gate Park. Doin NAPA on Tuesday then Yosemite on Thursday. Will drive to Mariposa and stay in a Confort Inn on Wed night and Thursday night so we just have to drive into park early to avoid the crowds, then we don't have a long drive after my outa-shape butt has hiked the falls. Heading south thru Santa Cruz then down Hwy 1 to Pacific Grove for another Vrbo for two nights/3 days. The driving to Pismo, hiking at Molero and Pfeiffer along the route. See new post seeking advice on LA. Thanks guys.
  6. I have to run spacers to clear my Wilwoods with Welds. You will be best with a cast aluminum wheel like a Rota to clear the calipers.
  7. texas300, when is your next try at the standing mile? I plan to do the Arkansas Mile, and maybe a trip to Loring Maine (1.5-mile track) in 2017, assuming they can keep the facility. I'm really curious to see where 600hp will take you. Easy launch without tirespin, clean shifts right on the shift light, and nothing crazy or abrupt is the key. Several of us have gotten pretty uncomfortable with drifting in the lane at around 170mph, so be careful. A 1/2-mile experience can be really informative as well, as that lets you know how much mph you can hope to gain in the second half. EasTNz and I plan to attend the Georgia 1/2-mile in Sept if it doesn't conflict with the Ohio Mile. The 1/2-mile will just be an excuse for us to hang out together. The Ohio Mile will be spring rate, alignment, chute and aero testing with the goal of going 175mph only. But doing it safely.
  8. For the guys who know him better: What would you think of memorializing johnc with an annual scholarship for the cost of ZCON track day tuition, starting in 2017? It could be called "The Hybridz John Coffey Memorial ZCON Scholarship." I could be in charge of collecting the money and starting a thread each year to take nominations and votes.
  9. Put a 3/4" hole in the inner fender and pass the brake line thru to avoid the headers. Looks great!
  10. Thx guys, I appreciate it-keep it coming in! Good advice.
  11. Looks great! I would go forward enough to center the shifter in the hole. Why? So you can get a wrench in the belhousing bolts so you can do clutch maintenance without pulling the motor. Otherwise it looks perfect.
  12. Taking family to SF in second week of June. I need lodging advice from some of you who live in the Bay Area. I'm gonna be booking from vrbo.com, focusing on places less than $300 a night. For a 3 day trip, should I try to stay downtown near the Embarkaderro/Fisherman's Warf area where there is a lot of touristy stuff, or should I go over to the Sunset area where it is quieter and I can get more beds and square feet for the dollar? I'm planning 1 day for a bus tour of SF, then a day at Napa, then a day touring parks, such as Golden Gate park. Then we head off to Yosemite, then down to Santa Cruz, Monterey, SM, SB, LA, SD and fly out of LA after trying to visit John Coffey's old shop. I was hot to stay downtown in SF, but I'm starting to like the idea of a quieter neighborhood. I really only need a place to sleep. But city street noise may be a problem that could keep me awake. I'm rambling now....any advice from folks who know?
  13. I just need to call Dave at AZC. Thanks, Robbie. Car is back operational!
  14. Rebekah's college graduation is May 7, but I will be in SoCal in June and will try to take some flowers to Benton, will sign the card for all of us...
  15. Your Japanese is rusty. It says: "My shift supervisor is a dick weed."
  16. There was a photo of your car in Sportscar Magazine that comes with an SCCA membership. I think it was last month. Aren't these cars a blast??
  17. It looks deeper than my LS1 Camaro pan. My pan hangs 1-1/2" below crossmember. My QuickTime Bellhousing is actually a little lower than the pan.
  18. Anybody know about funeral arrangements? Family? I'm thinking about sending a really nice floral arrangement. I'm heading to CA in June and was planning a stop to Benton to see him. Very stunned. I've talked with him many times and was really looking forward to more.... If anybody heard of anything, please text me at 256-366-4685 so I can get on it.
  19. Hope you feel better fast. I bet all will work out fine on the struts.
  20. I just sent you the hood emblem, hatch Datsun emblem. If you wanted the 280z hatch emblem, I didn't get that... If you still want that too, please tell me which emblem that is-they all look the same to me....
  21. Yeah, that's what most of us run. Its just a great all-purpose ratio. If you find a LSD, it will most likely be in a 3.70 ratio. I don't know that it is really worth the time it takes (not a lot) to swap it into a 3.54. I actually have every factory ratio on my shelf: 3.90, 3.70, 3.54, and 3.36. I will be buying a 3.18 likely next month. I run the 3.54 for just about everything. Once I come up with, and prove, a quick-change front diff mount, I hope to change ratios often. But, that front diff mount is just such a pain to deal with(!), and that is what keeps me from making as many changes as I'd like. For example: for the 1/8-mile, I love the 3.54 with a 27" slick. But guess what - Mickey Thompson just discontinued their 27" slick, leaving only a 26" or 28". So, that 3.70 that I've been hating on might become relevant again. Perhaps after you start with a 3.54, you will find that there is an awkward shift on your favorite track-then you can figure out how to change around that by changing ratios.
