Fuel Rails on an LS3 and best way to run
RebekahsZ replied to cooperma's topic in Gen III & IV Chevy V8Z Tech Board
My factory LS2 fuel rail just started leaking at the press fit near the Schrader valve after a couple of years of abuse. Just a mist-kept finding tan discoloration on first fuel injector junction beside press fitting (clean discoloration with carb cleaner and it quickly re-forms). Just right for spontaneous ignition! I think I tweaked this press fitting when I screwed on the fuel pressure gauge. New rail on-hand, hoping to get AN fitting welded on next week, then will be more careful installing gauge. After car is built, ya gotta look it over regularly and stay on top of issues-especially the ones that can go up in flames. After first start up, be sure to keep the start up brief and inspect like crazy for leaks. Might not be a bad idea to prime fuel pump without going all the way to START, then inspect really well for leaks even before that first crank. -

Just starting my ls1/t56 build!

That's what I did. -
It is cheapest and easiest to drive it till it breaks then replace it. You may be surprised at how long it lasts. I've owned a Datsun for 24 years and Ive had a rear end clunk for 24 years. Still haven't broken a diff. If it whines, tell your buddies you have a dog box and keep driving it.

Pics. I included some dream cars. Also you will see a couple of different rakes and ride heights, splitter on and splitter cut off and re-glasses at the track. I had my brother and some buddies come up and lend a big hand. What a fun time-more forum members need to come and join me next year. You can run "time only" up to 135 with an unprepared street car with only a closed face helmet (and I will let you borrow mine). Watch ecta-lsr.com for next years dates-I hope to return for the June 2016 meet. There will be a 1/2-mile event in July of this year and a 1-mile meet in Sep, so come on out and sign up! -
Try to get a seat at Motorsport Ranch, which I think is outside of Ft. Worth.

In almost every classified purchase I have bought thru this forum, the seller has asked me to send the money as a gift. I now just add 3% to the purchase and send it as "for goods." But I have given into temptation on more than one occasion before I figured out the "add 3%" plan. We have to be careful to police ourselves as we criticize others. Sorry for sneaking an editorial into your thread.

Cool car! Did you just buy it? Have you ever worked on cars before? -
It's tempting to get all sentimental when a project is finished. Now go out there and break it!

'73 6.2 LS3 Crate Build *Lots of Pics*
RebekahsZ replied to B5BiTurbo's topic in Gen III & IV Chevy V8Z Tech Board
Just Siamese off any "ignition hot" wire and use that wire as a signal wire for a relay equipped fuse block. Then you can run the power straight off the battery to that fuse block, but it is only hot when the ignition wire activates it. Just have a buddy turn the key on and off while you probe around for the ignition on wire that is easiest to get to. -

M1noel-you and I have exactly the same power plants. So, you have a 174mph car I your garage too! It was your build that I copied and learned so much from. Alainburon-maybe I will have this shop done by the time we can get together. My next event is ZCON Memphis Jul14-18. Not counting the commute to work tomorrow. Wish my professionally swapped truck was as reliable as my Z. The remote bleeder sprung a leak in the middle of the line. Betting swap guy sold me a used part that had either been pinched in the past or cooked on a header in the past. -

Ok, I get it: you didn't break an axle, one just fell off the car due to hardware backing out. Hmmm, was it one of the 6 long bolts that go thru the CV? When you put it back together, did you safety wire or use Loctite? It was all the hardware that scared me off the Wolf Creek axles. Even though it is likely less robust, the Z31 axle only requires that I keep up with 4 bolts. -

Thanks, fellas. Rebekah will be home this weekend. Maybe she can help me publish the videos. I'm still exhausted from the past month's garage thrash getting ready. Shop is a mess! -
If you know you are never gonna race and money is tight, get parts-house shocks. Lowering springs don't dramatically stiffen the spring rate. Save your money till you can do home-made coil-overs, Konis and 2.5" springs with a 250-ish spring rate, only going stiffer than that for dedicated race duty for a specific purpose.

That's just mock-up, right? You're not really gonna use Lowe's perforated angle? I'd use a planning weight (a little safety factor) of about 100# for a fuel tank that size. -

JCI Install Kit Instruction Manual?
RebekahsZ replied to JoeK's topic in Gen III & IV Chevy V8Z Tech Board
The manual kinda sux. It tells you how to remove a Datsun engine, then he kinda loses interest. You don't need it-it doesn't tell you how to wire it or anything. Find a buddy here on the forum and use the buddy system. -

Drag/turbo/NO2 guys are so much faster! Sunny/Foster/zguy/Cobra Matt/Mikelly/et al. I'm afraid it will take boost to go to next level and that may happen, but likely on a different platform. Looking forward to new shop opening up possibilities. Still no driveway due to non-stop rain in AL since fall. Plus truck still plagued with demons. Hope to get that sorted so winter can be all about the Z. Mostly want to make it more safe before returning for some more poor-man's dyno/wind tunnel, AKA standing mile. -
Towed 1042 miles this weekend. 2002 S10 extended cab with cammed LQ4 swap, airconditioning doesn't work, hydraulic clutch pedal failure 20 miles from home, the NV3500 5spd tranny shifts fine without a clutch and I just used the starter motor to get going in 1st gear from a stop. 14.7mpg average for the trip from Alabama to Ohio. Hoping its the master cylinder and not the slave.
