After searching/reading through numerous Rb threads.....I wanted to inquire about the PARTS and steps needed to build the RB26 with a 30 block ? Is the 30 crank maintaned? Is the block unmoddified ? Is it straight bolt-on ? Same rod size ?From wich block used ? Gasket sets cross reference ? And for THOSE actually sourcing parts and DOING the build etc.................what have you found to be relavant towards this direction ? Are there good results posted and of what final HP and torque ? What turbo/turbo's selected ? MAnifolds used ? You get the Idea......just a thread to catalogue the RB30 build and things needed to do it....along with knowledge of final results and performance. Keep it to subject,thanks.......Vinny 8)

Exellent work there Tim ! That engine bay CERTAINLY looks the Business. Beauty and Brawn all at once . Definatly in the top 2 bays of all time too me.......and mine isn't EVEN in there as a contender. .............Vinny 8)

Yeah, Toms right...........drive em' if ya' got em' ! I'll be doing that by sitting in mine with it up on stands and making rev noises like I have for the last few years !lol Enjoy what family you have too ! There is a funny saying that I remember hearing when I was a boy. It was an old woman speaking to her grandkids when they were ALL together......." now you kids will all get along alot better if you just behave LESS like yourself"!!lol. I have to admit........although this hasn't been a shining year for me personally, I atleast can say I'm not in a dark emotionless black hole like I had been for the last 2 1/2 years from losing Greta in that F'in crash. So those of you lucky bastards out there still with wife/girlfriend/Fiance's or whatever shares your company.....make it count and be "all you can be " for them and " be LESS like yourselves " long enough to make the moments richer. Hybrid Z'ers are usually a pretty good make of breed and behave well around others.......so I'm not inciting anybody out there. Be safe ,be fun,be loving where you can....be in a Z ! Love to all HB-Z peeps..Vinny 8)

Oh I KNEW I shouldn't have said anything. You guys don't miss a thing.lol. Its really nothing that probably hasn't been done 50 times before I would think. We've been porting on these things for so many years...its ALL been done by now. Did that longwinded statement divert your curiosity enough so I don't have to say "no pix" ...??lol. Vinny 8)

I can't be a judge if whether or not your money was well spent since there can be SO many variables to that. Its still a shame the painter wasn't motivated enough to use a wovwn cord under and along all seal edges to help the final product. Always disasemble a car before a repaint or be victim too a lesser quality result. Now to your problem,....I believe you will NOT have the option to buy anything but OEM Nissan rubber seals if and when you need to replace glass in order to fully cover your hard paint lines .You;ll STILL need to see about wetsanding that hard line down for the new seals to lay fully flat.Use the best Eurothane black sealer to complete the new seal and use plenty of tape to preload and secure all rubber edges. You;ll need to run a razor around the seal to avoid tearing the paint before removal of the seal and glass. Or prepare and repaint the car right next time. Best of luck........Vinny

I'll tell you what...........if that car would be produced on the same Mercedes floorplan as the current Charger is.....that will be a great handling ,well natured daily driver !!And it looks every bit as good as the new Stang IMHO. Was that just a prototype or show car ??Thats the first I'd seen of it. ...........Vinny 8)

Mustang in Japan...not a V-8 under the hood
Vintage-TechZ replied to S30TRBO's topic in Nissan RB Forum
I can see what your saying there about" reducing the number of cylinders". Its almost a bragging rights thing. I mean to upsize is always a conversation getter....whereas going smaller displacement raises the eybrow for most. In fact I could have seen that a Titan V-8 might have been a more "NEW" approach that could have even been a bigger media swirl for their marketing efforts. And MIGHT have even recieved Domestic praises IF it was faster and exciting to hear open pipes roar from it. But ,ALAS...........its just for the F&F III for crying out loud. In fact.....I'm pretty sure if I ever went to the dark side ( V-8).. in a S30 I'd go for the Titan engine w/twin spoolers and dual exhaust and a parachute ! Boo yah !! ..............Vinny 8) -
Ohhh, I gotcha'. I was wondering what was driving that thought. Not enough view of the head to know what # it was, i thought to self. Its covered with silver duct tape to hide special porting, hehehe. We all know it can only be shaped one way on a stock ex. man..but the intake is open for liberties. Someone start a thread of pix of tubular turbo ex. manifolds that members have done. Vinny

Hi Brian..........It was GREAT to meet up with you while Keith and I were in San Diego a few weeks back. You've got a great thing going there. I appreciate your hospitality and interests. Check out the Ontario thread if you havent already seen the motley crew shot, lol. If this kit hasn't sold after Christmas break....I'd be interested in it. I'm low on cash at the moment. As many can be this time of year. Our gas heating bills have increased by 81% this year alone.!! Vinny

Thanks guys, One thing you'll really benefit from that adapter is allowing SO much more room for the larger TO4E frames.Take a close look at the space now between the fenderwell and compressor housing. I built that thing over a year ago from about 12 pieces, including the welded bolts. Its certainly NOT an item to be mass produced .......obviously NOT from me anyway, lol. Feel free to copy the design if you like it......I have NO intension of cloning it any time soon.I'm buried. I am just trying to point out that porting a factory ex. manifold is a plus ! Welding on it can be entirely subjective to the quality and knowledge being applied to it........but it WILL eventually crack. How long or how many hours of heat exposure would that take ???I don't know. Perhaps if only used as a second car and blasted with heat a few times a month, it could last for as long as you own the car. So I'm NOT saying its a waste of effort or time by any means. I DO feel that if you were to grind the wall thickness as close to the same throughout the manifold, particularly close to the new wastegate flange welds......it might last longer ? In the end.........I want a tubular tuned manifold like I've got sitting on the shelf waiting to be finished before I die. Vinny 8)

I have ported the high nickle stock f54 cast manifolds for years, but I've stayed away from welding new access ports for wastegates into them even though its said to be safe when using the high nickle rods....prone to cracking eventually. Instead, I went the long route and built a 316L Stainless wastegate adapter that killed two birds w/1 stone . It adapted for a Tial 40mm gate and also moved the larger T/4 compressor housing away from the intake man. and block. This particular one actually lowers the turbo as well to fascilitate my large diameter Intake manifold. Also it made a perfect approach for the 3" downpipe with 45 degree mandrels getting away from ANY 90's in the whole system. If your wondering......the black finish on the Ex. man. is a 2000 degree ceramic coating I sent off to have done a few years back before it was SO overpriced. Looks like this: Installed ...it positions the gate in a great spot for a natural choice to re-enter the Ex. system or do a screamer pipe. The flange for the gate is able to swivel on this one for ease of orientation. I personally don't care for exhaust entering the cabin or the staining of the engine bay with the fumes/soot from tuning days or long hard pulls. To each his own as usual on this one.lol. .............Vinny 8)

Mustang in Japan...not a V-8 under the hood
Vintage-TechZ replied to S30TRBO's topic in Nissan RB Forum
Thanks for those figure's. Well put and true. I've watched this Mustang thread pop up on EVERY board I've been on over the last few weeks.....Syclone,BMW, Skyline,Jeep,Composites, even over sea's and its just amazing to me the amount of double standards exposed here given the subject. To act as if its sacreligious to do THIS swap when ALL others are OK just slays me into unsympethetic laughter to all of the sudo-purists who blow this spit.LOl. Clean air is RARE.....an honest Human is RARE.....a good dollar exchange rate is RARE......people agreeing completely is RARE.... Nothing is RARE about sheet metal hunks except an ancient one owner car !Or a "one off" or less than 20 made sort of deal. So take a deep breathe and remember...this is HYBRID-Z....not PURIST NAZI !lol. Relax, unwind and finish a car. Vinny 8) -
Ladys and gentlemen.......I'd like to introduce to you the NEW and IMPROVED, PUBLICALLY CORRECT...Joel Soooooooileauuuuuuuu!!!! ( much applause) ..........heehee, Vinny 8)

1971 Datsun 240z resto.project [vids/pics]

Philip, Do you remember which town in Missouri you purchased this car from ? Its a small world really and I just may have known the previous owner of that Z. Seems remote....but thought I'd check. I know its a "no fault" sort of thing since the last owner just may not of had ANY real car skills to have seen evidence of PAST rust, hence the " no rust" Ebay listing. Your project documentation and enthusiasum has completly overshadowed the rust issue and should be inspiring to others who moan at the site of any rust ,let alone the amount your one car had. I joke when I say......" a couple more yards of new steel in her and you'd have a Camaro " lol. As I watched the vids, I reflected on how many Z's that I've welded new panels into over the last 20+ years in much the same way as your friend did and shook my head (amazed) that ALL of this was going into one Z...at once ! I cut up or crushed over 25 Z's over the years with a ton less rust in them than yours and never gave it a second thought until I saw you slaving so much Love into your Z. I have ,now,......SOME guilt about that.........but more anger towards the jerk who misrepresented the cars condition. Had I known you and also been aware of your Z enthusiasum....I'd have likely GIVEN you a rust free chasis to import and to set you light years into the build. But alas..........then your project wouldn't reflect all of the compounding enjoyment you and your friends are experiancing together today. I could have only DREAMED of having such qualified skilled friends around me instead of always doing it all alone or having to do their cars. You are truly blessed with the key ..........FRIENDSHIP ! .........Looking forward to the next VID. ..............Vinny -
Now, help with tires please
Vintage-TechZ replied to RB26powered74zcar's topic in Brakes, Wheels, Suspension and Chassis
Joel.........I just did some further reading on that auction. I noticed that the tires are made BY Goodyear but tagged under their sister company's name ....Kelly/Springfield as DEFENDERS. So I would imagine they'll work out great but won't hold the Goodyear logo on the sidewall, rather Defender. But with such a low sidewall......hard to read anyhoo ! I bought my staggered set for late Mustang fitments for a steal too and was NOT dissapointed. Can't beat the price really. This way.......good traction and less guilt too ! .............Vinny 8) -

Vintage-TechZ replied to RB26powered74zcar's topic in Brakes, Wheels, Suspension and Chassis
Hold up there Jaime.......lol......I meant those are on 2FIDDYZ's car....at least in THAT pic. My car is bright green and on jackstands again. I meant for Joel to just see and realize that 275's are no CHALLENGE for his flared goals at hand.I wasn't suggesting for him to stretch the 275's onto his big-a$$ed 10.5's !! Joel.....glad you liked that staggered set there.I rarely see that level of tire for that low a price and thought you couldn't go wrong. If you go bigger later on...hell , I'll buy them from ya' !!lol. .........Vinny 8) -

Firstly.....WELCOME to HB-Z family of enthusiasts. Next....I am not laughing AT you, rather WITH you about the rust on that car !!! HOLY CRAP ! I've lived here in Missouri for the better part of my life and have only seen rusty Z's like that come from New York or the East coast primarily affected from the chemicals and salt products they spread to aid in the melting of ice and snow. Even my early 70 Z's look like diamonds compared ......but it looks like your going to be able to save her and thats all that counts right now with their scarcity over there. There are several of us here in the US and abroad doing the RB26DETT swaps into our S30's and doing all of the killer upgrades. It seems to be a common dream to bring to life these days and we wish you the best in your project. BTW.....I really dug your video's .....thats a really neat way of catalogueing your new experiance.I was laughing while watching some parts. You made it interesting to watch. I'll stay tuned with your efforts !! ...............Vinny 8)
