  1. The article is a number a pages long with many pictures. I really don't want to gobble up a lot of space here on the web site. Grassroots Motorsports Magazine is a good read and I look forward to it's arrival each month. It's content is aimed at the none sponsored, amateur car racing person with an out of pocket budget. This magazine doesn't deal with the Nascar BS that fills the pages of the typical car racing publication. IMHO, it's well worth the subscription cost and I really enjoy reading it.

With a road race application, finding the best gear ratio is always dependant on the track you are running. Like most of us, you probably don't have crew of mechanics and a shelf full of differentials that your can play with. However, your solution is a little easier to find. Your track doesn't change. The obvious and only rock solid way to determine which ratio works best for you is to try the 3.9 and then compare the results with a 3.54 or whatever higher one you can try. Do you have a good friend with a higher ratio rear and who is willing to lend it to you for a few runs? The "proof is in the pudding."

Probably not. But refering to aero changing items in general, it's the sum total of the improvements that make a noticable difference on the clock. We have discussed this before. When adding up the effects of a number of little aero improvement devices, the difference can be noticible!

I would however, consider a better hood pin design when I build another race car. Several small and 'fairly inconsequential" things can add up to a decent gain. I'm using four, aircraft style, push to lock, pins that stick up about an inch or so and wish that I had researched my choice a little better when we built the car a few years ago.
  5. Yes, the Grassroots Motorsports article was informative and interesting. The author pointed out some little things like hood mounting pins that "stick up" that add to turbulence and how we would be better served by installing flat ones. A few little aero improvements, added together, can make a big difference in overall in aero improvement.

I'm about 6.5" at the pinch seam in front of the rear wheel and that's about as low as I can get it without bumping the frame. I plan to mod the frame area above the cv ends so that I can lower it, hopefully another .75 inche or more.
  8. John, Don't you just love Advance Auto or whomever you purchased the axles from? Your experience really adds to that warm and fuzzy feeling I have when ordering a rebuilt part from one of those jokers. Calling this ordering process a "crap shoot" would better describe it. You sure don't know how it will turn out!

Impact Racing And SFI Joint Press Release April 1, 2010 Based upon sworn testimony by Impact Racing, the decirtification of Impact Racing products for the production years of 2009 and 2010 is lifted. Impact Racing Has Responded To Thier Clients With This Statement Impact Racing would like to respond to the statement on March 26, 2010 by SFI regarding their intention to decertify all SFI labeled Impact Racing products. All SFI labeled products currently being sold by Impact Racing have current SFI certification and legally obtained labels. The safety of our products has in no way been compromised. The allegation from SFI is in relation to the actual SFI tag only. We suggest at this time to continue to use your equipment, which is safe and has been certified and do not have anyone replace your tags on your products. On March 26, 2010 the attorneys representing Impact Racing filed an appeal. There is also a hearing in court on April 1, 2010. Impact Racing will keep all of our customers informed as details unfold. We are not accepting returns or refunds on delivered products. We suggest at this time to wait until further notice until we learn more about the details and allegations. A formal press release will follow shortly.
  11. Yasin, The S130's have never received enough love. You have one of my favorite, raced out, second generation Z cars, in the States. It should be an inspiration to anyone who is working on their 280ZX and needs a reminder of just how beautiful these cars really are. Nice job!

The people at Driveshaft Shop make tuff stuff for rally and drag cars that can handle huge numbers. However, I'm no expert, but I have read many post from those using R200 differentials who are putting big power to the ground. Although your stated HP and torque are imprssive, I suspect many are running higher numbers while using this diff without problems. Murfey's law and the fluke may have taken place.
  13. APR Performance made the wing. They supplied the wing for the wind tunnel test and will give HBZ members a 10% discount.   15. "i am looking for a manual (no automatics)1983 280zx turbo"I have decided to sell my 82 turbo car and plan to list it on Ebay later this week. It is super fine, "clean as a pin" and has about 70 K original miles on the clock. It will bring a price far beyond what you are offering for a car in similar condition. Perhaps my East Coast (SC) location will help to support the expected higher selling price. Good luck with your search.

I'm not sure what you are asking. I have been running Dave's AL billet Aluminum mustache bar on my race car since he first offered them, about three or four years ago. The mustache bar picture on AZC's web site is of my car. They have held up well with no structural issues and the finish still looks good even after being sprayed with parts cleaner and pressure washed countless times. I would buy them again if needed.

The suspension right now is all stock struts shocks etc. all 1978 factory. Congratulations. You sir, have the fastest stock 1978 280 Z car on the face of the Earth.(Sorry, I couldn't let this one go)
  19. Mark, You defiantly had a "wobbler" on the left rear. That could have proved to be exciting within the next few laps but the scrap metal price is way up and it sure looks like Ross's stub axle set up is the way to go. .
