BMW3 series prepped for road racing is awesome. I been beat by several in scca and nasa. when I went to drivers school Buccaneer region Roebling Road, ther was a dude there. He must have been 6' 5" 270lbs easy. He had this old 80s 325. But it had a race prepped M3 motor in it. Mine was a l28 3.0l trip webers 13.5:1 cr f54 p90 diyuble disc 5"clutch. 5 speed with a 4.11 r200. We raced all weekend. Most every event he would be 2nd and I would be 3rd. Even when I would grid super early to get out on track first. He would catch me. And every time he would come in he would just hop out of his car and climb into his camping chair. Wait for it to cool down and then fuel it up for the next round. I was so jealous. I think you really need to do some mods to the oiling system to make sure they dont starve in the corners but that goes for all cars. But to see him sittin on the factory motor knowing that it was solid while I was worryiong about every rod and cap bolt valve lash etc made me very envious. Pics if you want

It is always nice to show up to a frustrated crowd with the right tools and get the job done that 2 or 3 other cannot accomplish together. -

v80z replied to v80z's topic in Gen I & II Chevy V8 Tech Board
thanks for the encouragement MikeC. Hey do you know Needa406z?. He is some where on your area. -
I had to drop the stuts from the rear fenders and then bolt mine up. then inorder to get the struts back up in their perches I ground out the top of the inner fender seam to clearance the strut bolt going back inot place. sectioned struts with coilovers.

Well I got the used MSD pro billet Ready to run dizzy installed.. New MSD Wire. Took her out for a spin. Big Difference. Little by little tweaking things here and there after the project is up and running is very interesting. Oh clearnce issues with the firewall was solved with the smaller cap. Whew!! -
thanks guys It was blowin my mind. Once I get the stock heads off and get the sportsman 2s on things should be different. guess I need to look up the weight on the neon srt.
-
These are 64 cc chambers which is what I have now with my stockers. Dr. I am cammed for the upper end. Make little power on the bottom and not enough flow with my stocker heads for the top end. I hoping this will remove the fall off in power at the upper end. Dr. I guess neon srt has never given you any issues on the street?

I guess the real advantage for us is off the line
v80z replied to v80z's topic in Gen I & II Chevy V8 Tech Board
Nealio what kinda power you makin? Ever go up against a neon srt4? Did a low 3rd gear run with one tonight and it seemed to be a force to be reckoned with. -
Well New to me heads are on the way. Thanks to a generous offer by Needa406z. World Product Sportsman 2s with 200cc runners. This oughta make a world of difference. While I got it down to the shortblock I will exactly mark TDC with the use of a dial indicator. BTW Has anyone every had any experience against a Dodge Neon SRT4? Dont ask me why!!!!

Got up with a friend of mine today. He said he sold his WRX and bought a Z06 . Man I love those cars. Sexy as big ol P*%%Y. Anyway we decided to meet up as he hadnt seen the Z running yet. Pulled up into the Lowes Parking Lot in Hampton at the Power Plant. It was the first time ever being near or in a c5 corvette. Very sleek. We then turn our attention to the "lowely Z". He admired it and the sound and that it is stripped to the bone. He told me it screamed race car. We have been to a track event together with our repective previous cars and talked of going again this fall. He said Man I wanna ride. I said ok lock yours up and lets go. Well we did a short blast then went an got some lunch. After we drove back and got his car I asked which way he was headin back to work? So we lined em up in the 45 mph outside the Lowes. He said go. 1st Shift Light 2nd Shift Light off throttle. Dude we were neck and neck. He said he couldnt get traction. I asked if he had his traction control on but there was no answer. I know that that car is in a whole different classification. Definately Gran Tourismo. But it was nice to hang with a Z06 to 65 mph. On track that car would definately whip me in endurance and engineering. Still It was a good Day!!!!!! BTW My last experience was from about 35 mph to 70 mph with a 2001 Camaro Z28 LS1 T56. And he walked me. How can this be? 2 different drivers? Z06 slower than a Camaro? Standing start vs 35 mph roll?

High Capacity Oil Pan... Will This One Fit?
v80z replied to a topic in Gen I & II Chevy V8 Tech Board
Yeah I got something that looks like that installed. Makes the starter a little tricky and I had to buy some aeroquip elbows for my remote oil filter run. But other than that mine works. Just dont do what I did when going from a stocker to a 7.5 qt pan -
That looks kewl. Give us some more of your driving impressions. Who's car is it?

Latest Bonehead Move. No Damage. Dizzy is coming apart!!!!!!
v80z replied to v80z's topic in Gen I & II Chevy V8 Tech Board
Thanks Guys MSD Billet slip collar -
Well I was prepping for a local event this past Friday. I had left the car out in the rain the night before. So after tightening the drive shaft and cv shaft bolts I went to fire it up. No fire hmmm. Wet? Went throught the usual checks. Pulled the dis cap off looking for moisture when what do I see? the pressed pin of one of the flyweights has become unpressed? Now I have run this mill to 6500 on 3 - 4 occassions. I never thought that this would happen. I know I am running a cheap dizzy. It is a proform billet HEI. It was about $119.00. cheap I know You get what you pay for. So now I am faced with "What distributor do I buy that can survive at 7000rpm and doesnt cost over $250.00" Oh BTW. I ground the press pin as it had some damage and tapped it back in to place. I know it is a time bomb just waiting to happen. So I put the thing back together. Still no fire sounds like 1 cylinder fires per rotation. Then I pull a plug attach the wire to it and set it so I can see it when I crank. Sure enough one spark every other rotation. Good clean CD spark. HMMMM. What have I changed.......... The F^&*in rev limiter. I wanted to up it alittle It has rotary dip switches. left is for the thousandths place and the right on for the hundreths place. You guessed it I did not know dyslexia was a sexually transmitted disease. I had set my rev limiter to 0700 instead of 7000 rpm. What a bonehead!@! At least there was no damage. Joe

SBC drive shaft application question
v80z replied to Forces's topic in Gen I & II Chevy V8 Tech Board
i am not making tremendous power but I have lit up my posi with 10 tires 20 - 30 times. I took a blazer drive shaft and had it grafted to my 280z rear joint and clamped it in the stock r200 flange. the OD of the blazer shaft was bigger than the z shaft. So the welder cut the blazer shaft to fit and then slid about 6 inches of z shaft and spacer inside it. He tacked it and I took it back to measure. He told me too insert the shaft all the way into the tranny then pull it out about 3/4 " and mark it there. Then I took it back and he sealed it up.
