None of the local Driveshaft shops have this part. Anyone know where I can get one fast? Anyone have one that is waiting for an install but not started yet? We are in the middle of the Diff install and this is the only missing part. Thanks for you help!

Sounds great. Don't doubt that your Z will get up to 160mph. I was able to pull at least 130 down the main straight at Watkins Glen and I didn't have the brakes you have. If I had better brakes, I bet 140mph would be no problem. I can see it now, you are driving through Montana on a trip across country and you can see down the road for 3-4 miles, you are just cruising along at about 80mph. A new C6 Corvette blows by. You decide to show the vette what you've got. You drop it down to 3rd and floor it. The rear breaks loose for a second and you keep it in control, you redline 3rd, shift to 4th, take 4th to redline and you are gaining fast. As you shift to 5th, you catch him. By the time you get to redline in 5th you have passed him by and you look down at the speedo and you are doing 165mph. Feels smooth as glass. Then you wake up!

I know that Dave, (1tuffZ) did the same swap and he had mentioned that the tank straps are not long enough. From the pictures you posted it looks like the round protruding area on the top of the tank may put the tank lower by about 1". Can you let us know if this will still work with the stock straps? I have a 1975 tank that I am planning on swapping into my 72 and I want to be sure to have all of the correct parts on hand before I start. Do you have the straps from the 75 tank too? are they longer then the 240Z straps? Thanks.

I guess I fall into the loner catagory too. Even though I have several friends that are into cars that are not too far away, most of us are too busy with work, families, etc. to be able to get together and wrench on our cars. One of my good buddies, Vince, is an ASE mechanic. He does pop by from time to time to lend a hand and he was a big help with my V8 510 project. But his life is busy and he really doesn't feel like turning wrenches after working on cars all day long. Pete Paraska lives less then 1 hour away. Mike Kelly lives about 70 miles from here. Too far to just drop by for an hour or 2 of wrenching. Jody also lives about an hour from here. Sounds like we need to do more club type activities. Mike Kelly is real good about having Z car get togethers (shindigs) at his place. These are always a great time. We need to do more stuff like this. Maybe a Z cruise this spring. When I was younger (44 now), I had lots of friends that would always just pop by and lend a hand. Now I need to make an appointment to get someone to come and help out or for me to go and help someone. That was a big factor in making the decision to have a shop finish up the LS1 swap for me. A big project like the LS1 swap is alot easier when you have people around to lend a hand. When I am not too busy, I like to hang out up at the hot rod shop and shoot the shiitt with the guys up there. They are all into cars and seem to like my Z even though none of them own a Datsun. They work on some really cool projects for guys like myself that don't have the time to do it themselves. Luckily I have my 12 year old son who is taking an interest in my Datsun obsession. He wants to learn more about cars and he is hoping that we will be building one of my 510s for him as his 1st car. My grandfather was a car guy and owned one of the 1st Datsun dealerships on the east coast in the early 1960's. I guess it runs in the family. Long live Datsuns!

Congrats! I was thinking about you and your project earlier today. I knew you would have it running soon. Just in time for spring. I remember firing mine for the 1st time. Let us know how it goes. I have heard that the straps from the 240Z are not long enough for the 75-76 tank. Sure would like to know for sure. Good Luck!

Do you guys with tags that advertise that your car is fast ever have problems with the law because of them? I had thought of getting a tag like that but thought that if a cop saw a tag like "TOO QWIK" "FAST Z" etc. they might look for a reason to pull you over.

I love my LS1 240Z. It is a blast to drive and very reliable. Faster then 95% of the cars on the road, handles like it's on rails, and gets all kinds of looks and thumbs up all the time. I don't use it as a daily driver but I drive it as much as possible. Go for it. Done preperly a V8 Z car is the best.

Tile is not a popular choice these days. A solid granite slab or a solid surface material like Corian is the way to go but quite pricey for a $95000 house.

I have the same size tires and Panasports and I notice at full lock my tire rubs on the bottom edge of the front right fender. Never does a skip or a hop though.

Welcome to the best Z site on the web. If you look at the bottom of the post there is an edit button to fix typos. I got my LS1 from an eBay auction that didn't meet the reserve. I contacted the seller and worked out a deal. I bought it in March of 2004. It is a 2002 LS1 and 4L60E with 20,000 miles for $4000.

Yes, the shifter does sit up a bit. We cut down the upper portion of the shifter handle and it now falls in a great position that is very comfortable and still allows access to the stereo even in 3 gear.

My LS1 240Z took way way longer then 3 days. It also cost about 50% more then I had originally planned on. If you don't have the money to do it right, save up the money and enough to rent a car for a month or buy a beater to drive. As for the shifter, if you use the JCI mounts the shifter comes up through the stock location perfectly . I was even able to use the stock rubber boot to cover the shifter.

Bartman, Looks good. That control panel fits that space nicely. How did you attach the plates? Can you show a pic of the back side?

Might be cheaper to fly out and drive it back or rent a truck and trailer. Road trips can be fun!

Larry, Was it an R230 from a Z car or the Q45 diff?
