  1. Nice. I figured since the rb20det came in the z31's in Japan the rb25 would be a easy swap. JT
  2. Beautiful car. I would love to hear a clip of the exhaust to compare it to mine. I have a full SS 3in with an oval magnaflow muffler. It's a good sound but very raspy....curious as to how other RB's sound. JT
  3. Just wondering how far I can somewhat-safely rev this motor. I have the rev limiter at 7500 and it pulls hard all the way up to it at 8psi. The motor really comes alive from about 6500 on up. The whole exhaust note changes and it just really starts pulling. Feels like it would keep on pulling hard well past 7500 but I'm real leary of it being a completely stock long block. Anyone know how dangerous it would be to rev it to 8 or so? JT
  4. He's got an 04 R1 with gas on it as well.....I think he will be fine. I do plan on running the R1 though once the z is tuned. lol JT
  5. Got a decent tune on the z at 8psi and just to have something to compare it to I hit it from a roll with my buddy in his sr20 240sx. His car dynod 300rwhp and traps 109-111 in the 1/4. He jumped out on me when we hit it but I was able to reel him in once I got in boost. Didn't pull him hard but for only 8psi I am really impressed considering this turbo really isn't doing much at this low boost. Can't wait to see 20+ psi and a real tune on it. JT
  6. Thanks for the compliments. Got the exhaust on now and it is definately a unique sound with the header and all. Sounds a little like a wrx at low revs but just screams under boost around 6k-7k. EvilRufusKay: It had a turbo L28 in it before making 360+ whp. Roll bar is a S&W put in by a local place. S15 200sx owner: Turbo is a big T04 kahuna. It is a series 1 rb25. Once it is fully tuned and running more boost I'm sure there will be videos of it. Come to the next SEZ event and see it in person. JT
  7. Thanks. Actually been driving it around town the past few days with no exhaust. It's a blast to drive, even with no boost.....especially after sitting in the garage for 3 years. lol JT
  8. Posted in the non-tech forum: http://forums.hybridz.org/showthread.php?t=101509 JT
  9. Here are some recent pics. It is running and driving now. Building the exhaust this week, then it's tuning time. JT
  10. I'm glad I didn't see the auction for the zx's before it ended or I would have wanted to bid. Proabably close enough to pick them up. Trying to clean my backyard up of some z's soon....don't need to add to it. lol JT
  11. Looks awesome Mike. Is that a S&W cage? If so, do you have any pics of the seats installed? I am using stock seats at the moment until I figure out what seats will fit that I can live with. JT
  12. Been troubleshooting the SDS setup for a couple of days and finally got it all figured out. I'm using Stony's rb26 base map (thanks for that upload stony) and it seems to idle good after leaning it out 40% or so. Hoping to be able to drive it a bit by the weekend sometime. After being down for almost 3 years and about 10 grand I'm very anxious to drive it. Not even concerned about making boost.....I just want to take it around the block. lol JT
  13. BTW, I didn't put the 1jz in the truck. I sold it to a good friend with the turbo 22r. He put the 1jz in, doing pretty much all the work himself. JT
  14. For those that don't know, my old turbo toyota truck now has a 1jz with a fairly large single turbo and nitrous. To put this video in perspective, this truck should trap 125 or so in the 1/4 mile pretty easily.....it's no slouch. The Evo was built by AMS in Chicago.....it's also no slouch which is obvious in the video. The video was taken this past Sat night here in Mobile. Some of you may have already seen this. It's going around pretty quick. http://srvidz.vidiac.com/Player.aspx?fileid=9F05CFD0-E4D7-4874-B4E9-FAF65B0590BD&t= There are a couple of other videos on that page of the Evo running other cars, like 2 600hp 03-04 cobras. JT
  15. I wouldn't worry about a cage if it is the torque you are concerned about. RB's don't exactly lay down massive torque numbers. But, if you plan on going fast, a 6-10pt cage may be a good idea anyway and required at most tracks once you break certain ET's. JT
  16. Bought mine from Eric Japan Engines in Chicago. They had it on ebay but they ended the auction early for me and I got my rb25det with 5 spd for $1900 shipped with ECU, igniter, etc. JT
  17. I wonder about the need for 100 octane myself. Lots and lots of guys running around in 400hp supras on pump gas. Never heard anyone say a turbo supra sounds lame or is rough either. IMO, a turbo I6 is one of the best sounding and smoothest engines you could ask for. BTW, my turbo L28 made peak torque (421 ft lb) at 3800 rpms and fell off as rpm's got higher. I would imagine a 2jz with the stock twins would make peak torque a bit earlier than that. JT
