Ground effect skirting - Help identifying
Mikelly replied to primadonna z's topic in Body Kits & Paint
Looks like the standard AZC Widebody IMSA setup complete w/ Gnose, Cowl hood and IMSA rear deck spoiler... Mike -
where can i get SCCA approved cage?
Mikelly replied to a topic in Brakes, Wheels, Suspension and Chassis
This is SOOOOOO true... And well put RAYJAY! And Mortensen's correct... Tom Sixby hasn't posted in a long time and BLKMGK (Jim Pearl) has since long moved onto Supras and other "things" of interest... This isn't a good thread at all to "bump"... And that Cage MSA sells isn't exactly a good way to get a cage put into your car... Mike -
Couple of comments... Terry caught something I was going to mention, but the one thing I really like about Cameron's mount that Alexideways' mount doesn't have is the double sheer on the differential point of mounting. Those double tabs will strengthen the sheer strength. I'd take Cameron's mount and incorporate the brace Alex used and get the best of both worlds, in an ideal world... Cameron, If you can bump out an extra set, Put me on the list... I'll modify it to meet my needs, thanks! Mike

Their resale isn't great unless they are in cherry and original condition. And be advised, these cars don't do anything great. Parts are still relatively easy to come by though, and they still have a timeless line to the body. Mike

Ernie, It's kinda hard to tell... I remember this one recently being on ebay... It looks more like 944 than 928. But it would probably look a lot different in the pics... Mike

My Cutler Fuel Injected intake/rails/FPR for sale...
Mikelly replied to Mikelly's topic in Gen I & II Chevy V8 Tech Board
Got it Davy... You've got one back... To clarify for everyone interested, the Throttlebody and injectors will be re-used on the other intake. This price is for the Cutler aluminum intake, Billet Fuel rails/lines attached to them, the Fuel pressure regulator, and the chrome water neck. I'll also be re-using all sensors that are attached in the pic. Mike -
I got the movie "Clerks2" and the first year of CSI Las Vegas. I also got a chess set from Biltmore Estate: http://shop.biltmore.com/detail.aspx?ID=980 New SA2005 helmet: http://www.jegs.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/category_10001_10002_109705_-1_10497 Craftsman Wrench Set: http://www.sears.com/sr/javasr/product.do?cat=Mechanics+Tools&pid=00944008000&vertical=TOOL&subcat=Wrenches&BV_UseBVCookie=Yes A Steering wheel from MSA: http://www.thezstore.com/page/TZS/PROD/SWM/50-3127 A set of headlights for the Zcar from my oldest stepson, several shirts...and I think that's pretty much it... And Davy, you've got the right idea... We were able to make donations to the normal charities and help those we do every year, minus one family who has rebounded nicely from years of bad luck... That alone was a great gift to our family. Mike

Gang, I've replaced me Cutler intake/billet fuel rails/lines and Fuel Presure regulator with an Edelbrock Victor intake. The Cutler was designed for 1986-newer blocks, but had the inner four bolt holes slotted to work with the earlier blocks. The intake/rails/fuel pressure regulator and lines retails for around $700. I'm selling this one for $300 plus shipping. All proceeds will go to the windtunnel testing... I'll post pics later, but you can see it in this pic: Mike

Welcome, But I'll caution you, Hanging around with Alex (Auxilery) won't help your reputation! MerrCrimmus and Welcome to HybridZ... Oh, and Nice find and excellent price! Mike

Aerodynamics DONATIONS NEEDED!!!
Mikelly replied to Mikelly's topic in Windtunnel Test Results and Analysis
I've spoken with BJ on the phone on Saturday at length, and we're in pretty good shape gang. I sent BJ $1600 via paypal and they will meet the operators of the windtunnel on the 28th to finalize the schedule. I'm gonna work with BJ, Ken Jones, and the members of the Triangle Zcar club to get the crew id's finalized and the plan nailed down. At this point they have the ruff project plan together, but we'll work the fine details out over the coming weeks. Pushing us back to late February works well for us, as BJ has to finalize his Pantera Hatch and I'm gonna need time to work the ShowCars G-nose to make it fit... We're down to about $470 in donations totals and we'll need another $1000 to close the gap... Ifg you guys can come up with the $1000, I'll close the gap on the last $500... I know Xmas is here and funds are thin, so I'll hold off on beating the donations drum for a few weeks to let you guys recouperate from the holidays... I'm just VERY pleased to deliver the news that this activity is gonna come to pass! Mike -
I got my arse whooped by my WR250 Yamaha... Weather was absolutely GREAT today, So I rode the dirtbike for about three hours... I'm spanked... No gift opening for me until tomorrow! Mike

Nope... This was a 3rd Gen big body Camaro. Mike
-
Actually it is very possible... One issue from years back of car & Driver or one of the other rags showcased a full bodied Camaro (Come to think of it, it may have been Chevy HiPo) that was running the Silver State challenge, hitting in excess of 180 mph on a 365-ishWHP chevy small block powered drivetrain. The car supposedly weighed in at around 3200#... I'm going off memory here, so if someone digs that article up, it would be good. What struck me was how heavy the car was, how "little" HP was required, and most interesting of all, the aero "tricks" employed to get the car slicked down to achieve such speeds... Mike
-
Another Grey/silver fan here... Right now the ZG flares are off the car while I finish up the suspension/brakes... Black is such a hard color to get perfect, and you'd better have a great body guy to get it straight and AC to keep you cool in the hot sun! Mike

I get jokes... Mike
-
Not even close... A "mild" cam, rocker arms, and lash pads is gonna be well over $500 to do it right. And I'd never do just a cam in a stock head... Tony D. is correct. the "stock" head is extremely restricted... Also GJC5500, If you drove a stock 250Z with SUs that were tuned correctly, it wouldn't have been "flooding". You might want to take that $300 and sit on it for a while until you have some more to put with it... Mike

Info on getting any Rota wheel in custom sizes!!!!
Mikelly replied to a topic in Brakes, Wheels, Suspension and Chassis
The widest wheel offered thru 18Racing was 8.5 inches... Most of those wheels on that site were in the 15inch range... Although there were about 6-8 wheels that were in the 17 inch range... Prices were really decent, but I'm not sure the offset would work for many here... I know I'm seriously stuck looking for something "inexpensive" in a 5 inch back spacing and 9-10 inches wide on a 17 inch wheel. Mike -
Front Suspension Swap question
Mikelly replied to Careless's topic in Brakes, Wheels, Suspension and Chassis
In your pics, the gold anodised rods, are they aluminum? If they are, I can tell you from first hand experience that they will bend and then fail. Just a heads up... There's a tremendous amount of load being applied to both the control arm and the TC rod. The TC Rod will fail first though... And while you're at it, I'd consider opening up the strut tower opening more to get full adjustment of that camber plate, like this: It looks as though you may need to come back closer to upright a little, and you don't have much ability to do that with it the way it currently is... Front Suspension Swap question
Mikelly replied to Careless's topic in Brakes, Wheels, Suspension and Chassis
Careless, You completely missed what Terry was mentioning... A strut needs 6 inches to operate... 1 inch for topping out, 4 inches of stroke travel, and one inch of sag. A "helper" spring in a coilover application isn't gonna matter if the suspension is lowered beyond those limits and the strut or shock piston isn't usable, because the car is already lowered beyond that 6 inches of strut piston. Also, Do a search on coil overs for the Zcar, and then go over to Sylvia.net to compare the two... I think you'll find that once you understand the whole concept of how the strut needs to function fully in that whole 6 inch range, you'll understand better why Terry is talking about running a shorter strut body strut like the 8610 (Which I just installed in mine last week) and a shortened outter strut housing. Until you understand those two issues, I'd not touch a thing or make a decision to buy anything. Not grasping this issue fully could cost you some serious bucks... Mike -
Final started chassis stiffening ...
Mikelly replied to heavy85's topic in Brakes, Wheels, Suspension and Chassis
Cameron, Hang in there man... I know at this point it seems a bit daunting. But when you're done, you'll have something you can truly be proud of... Looking good by the way!!! Mike -
Stony, I'm pretty sure it isn't gonna be stiff enough! Yea, Pretty sure... Lots of flex there in the 1800 sections of tuning... yea for sure... :lmao: Holy cow man... That thing is gonna rock! Congrats Mike
-
Funny thing is, as good as this car looks as it sits in these pics, it's getting ready to get a huge transformation... I've got a Gnose on the way to add to the mix... And that'll compete a 10 year dream for this project... It's a showcars piece, so my hopes aren't too high, but hey atleast some scumbag (Les Heath comes to mind) won't get the chance to steal this one, off the car anyway! Mike

Had this same thing happen on Jim McNemar's car when we were building it... Ross sent us two axles that were the correct part number, but were apparently assembled with the wrong centers... Mike

Ground control camber plates
Mikelly replied to gfc's topic in Brakes, Wheels, Suspension and Chassis
If I had this to do over again, I think I'd just do the Arizona Zcar plates at all four corners. Not real happy with the "ground control" solution at this point... Having the AZC units installed in the back gave me a great comparison for install and adjustment. Mike -
