  1. Nope, not the case at all... I commuted in my 99 Corvette. Those commutes led straight up Interstate 95 for about 35 miles, and I did it five days per week. When I took off the front tires at 22K miles, they showed even wear across the tread pattern. Current hi performance tire technology allows to run more aggressive settings. The key is to not go overboard and not get way out of spec on your toe settings. I spoke with a couple different manufacturer tire techs at SEMA and they're all shooting for better performance and longer tire wear in their highest performance product lineup. When looking at a tire, I really like going to tirerack.com and reviewing the tech specs on a tire. It helps to understand the UTQG rating as well as the other "numbers" for the tire. If you don't understand any of the technical data associated with a tire, they have a decent FAQ that helps you better understand what all the info means... The lower the UTQG number, the more sticky the tire, and the less mileage you'll get out of the tire. That's very important when choosing your performance tire and suspension settings. Mike
  2. Contact D&D or visit their site: http://www.ddperformance.com/ They'll walk you thru it. Those guys have always been very helpful anytime I call about something technical. Mike
  3. Actually when an ignition switch becomes faulty, It'll sometimes make contact and give you 12 volts, sometimes make partial contact and give you 4-6 volts and sometimes not give you anything... It'll eventually wear itself out. I believe I have a few laying around in a box if you want to drive up and pick one up. I'm no longer at the other house, as we moved back in June, but I'm only 15 minutes west of the other house... Mike
  4. My Milwaukee cuts straight if you use the smaller diameter blades (10inches or so) and don't put too much pressure on it as it walks thru the metal. Any larger in diameter on the cutting blade and it flexes. I'm currently looking for a decent metal cutting band saw that does precision cutting. Mike
  5. Hmmm.... Looks like the very first Z I ever owned... Same color, same year production, and only one month off... Mike
  6. YOu just hit on the big advantage of the LSx motor... It's the modern day version of the original SBC... Mike
  7. David, Thanks for that reminder... Forgot to get back to you. I think we have that spoiler in the mix already, But I'll double check. Mike
  8. Olderthanme, Please don't put things like this in my thread. These comments only polarize what we're trying to accomplish here. Mike
  9. I really need a 10 inch wheel, but a 9.5 inch for the more "streetable" tires should be OK... I'll end up using spacers, which I didn't want to do, but oh well. Mike
  10. Nope, I tried... I really did... But some of these comments are just getting to far beyond what will be allowed gang. This thread is locked, and please, no more stuff like this... Mike
  11. Actually NAviathan, That's where it gets murkey... As I understand it, The Governor and the Mayor both sat on their haunches in panic and DIDn'T call in FEMA or ask for federal aid. That was the issue. NORMALLY in a disaster such as this, As it unfolds, the governor/governors of the state/states impacted would claim the areas impacted as disaster areas and IMMEDIATELY ask for federal funding. We see it all the time when Hurricane season kicks up the east coast tossing all the Atlantic coast states and tearing up beach resorts as it happens. However, THIS DID NOT HAPPEN in this particular case. Everyone at the federal level waited for the governor to step up and ask for the assistance. It never came. Finally, after widespread complaints that the federal gov't should do something, they did. But they were originally following the protocal established by federal and state guidelines. FEMA and others have really taken heat over this one, and I can understand the frustration. However, the state and local authorities really set off what turned out to be a horrific disaster AFTER the storm. Mike
  12. Well I just ordered a set of the TSW Thruxtons in 18X9.5 with +20mm offset. We'll see how they fit... I'll use them as the "rain"/street tread setup. Mike
  13. OK, March it is then, Damn... On the plus side, we've got that much more time to get the rest of the donations... Gang, We've recieved another Check, as well as a couple of donations from folks who'd like to remain in the shadows. Long story short, we're up to over $725 in the kitty. Interesting info BJ, and info I suspected... Very good to hear this will be a daunting challenge and the info gained may well be disappointing. Still, knowledge is power and the info gained will serve a great purpose in making these Zcars handle that much better. Mike
  14. I have those same wheels on my wife's BMW 328is! Mike
  15. I'd mark those plates with settings for street and track and run about 1.5 negative on the street. I'd also buy some toe plates and learn to adjust the toe as well. I agree with JT1 on the rest. Mike
  16. We're gonna let this one ride for the moment... David isn't pushing a political agenda at this point, just telling what he saw... However, Keep in mind that we're on the hairy edge gang... Mike
  17. Thank you all for donating gang! We now have $530 in the "account" after paying $1600 towards the deposit. The big issue has been paypal fees. It's nuts how much we're losing here, but I'm covering these losses as they occur. Keep the donations coming. If we're lucky, we may be able to swing a SECOND day out of this... (although we haven't pulled in enough to fully pay for the first yet, this is our ultimate goal!) Mike
  18. Yup, that one was shot at SEMA. The guy speaking was the guy I spoke with for about 30 minutes at the show... Amazing car. Mike
  19. Poor grounding could cause it as well. Make sure you've got GREAT metal to metal (preferably BARE metal) contact. Mike
  20. Couple factors would be involved there. You "CAN" stretch any metalic material, given the right variables... Mine's about a 1/16th of an inch thick and about a 1/4inch wide. I don't think I'll have issues... Mike
  21. Again, Centerforce has gone NUTS with their wheel prices... NOT worth it in my opinion. $379 per wheel is rapidly approaching the cost of Kodiaks or CCWs... Why spend that kinda coin on a centerline? Yes they have a fair selection. But the quality isn't there when compared to CCW or Kodiaks. If I was able to get them in a $200-250 per wheel pricepoint, MAYBE I'd consider it... But $379? They need to get off the crack pipe. JUST SAY NO TO DRUGS! Mike
  22. I opted for the "TOM BOON" Titanium band when it came to wedding bands... It was about $160 5 years ago and has held up remarkably well... Tom Boon is a bicycle component maker in Florida. He takes titanium scrap and makes jewlry out of it. You can find him online if he's still in business... Mike
  23. You can forget about those centerlines being "affordable" anymore... Just got off the phone with them... They'll run you $379 per wheel plus shipping now... Can't believe their price jump on these wheels. Mike
  24. Those wheels are now officially $379 EACH... That's nuts. Not for Centerlines... Mike
  25. Welcome to the world of poorly kept fiberglass molds... Prety sure it's a track car, so my guess is the guy was going for form over function. Still a good looking car. Mike
