And today I went to the SEMA show.... HICHIWAWA... No need to visit a gentlemen's establishment... I will be posting pics when I get back home... I took over 180 today with my old Kryosera camera before it died... So I called it quits and ran out to the store and bought a real digicam... I think it's real anyway... Minolta, DiMage Z6. I'll burn some more bits tomorrow and make a folder on my yahoo account... So I spent the rest of the later part of the afternoon with the wife (who skipped class) and went out to Red Rocks Canyon Park and played with the new camera.... Should be ready for SEMA tomorrow... For those who've never done SEMA LV... Do it... There is TO MUCH to see in a day or two... Almost makes me want to extend until Friday. Mike

Crispy, THAT IS EXACTLY what I was looking for... Now lets get a standard 4bolt main bare block and a standard LT1 bare block and weigh them. Paul and Ron, I'm not arguing what you guys did. Only trying to state that the info is thought provoking and only pushes us to ask someone to validate it to the level of actually taking a real and acurate scale, and three bare blocks to see what the differences in the blocks are... That said, I'd then want to see the other main components weight... Rotating assemblies, heads, and so on... Somewhere along the way the LS1 MUST be significantly lighter, or we've all been lied to... And that's my point in challenging you guys (any of you guys) to validate or dispell what's been produced here. That's what this site is about gang... FACTs... Mike
-
Ron, You know what I mean... I don't see the need for that comment... I personally want to know if there is a weight difference and I want to know which components weigh what. Also, YES it does matter, not only how precise the scale, but that both engines are places EXACTLY on the scale in the same manor and same location. It's very easy to use the wrong type of scale for weighing items like this and getting the wrong reading...People do it everyday weighing themselves. Ask a physician... If you want to bring information like this to light, I applaud it. But do it in a manor that will with 100% refute these kinds of comments from those who have raised doubt. Otherwise, it's just consumption of bandwidth. Mike

...Just passing the Northern entrance to The Flamingo Casino (actually the entrance to Jimmy Buffet's resteraunt.), when I'm literally thrown on the ground... HARD. I roll onto my back to see what the hell is going on and see this absolutely FILTHY skinny, Charlie Manson looking dude grappling with a woman in either a police or security uniform. The officer is getting the worst end of the deal, and 'ole Charlie has pissed ME OFF!!! I mentioned yesterday that I kinda injured my knee while at the Grand Canyon on Sunday, but right now I can't feel it, because I'm just pissed... So I get up and grab this guy and pull him off her... I took a swing as he was coming up... So I throw him HARD to the ground and in the process I'm apparently hit him four times, cutting one of my knuckles...I'm now sitting on this guy holding him and a large crowd has gathered... I look at the lady in uniform who is a security guard for Ballys and I ask "So what do you want to do? You have some cuffs?" Her answer... "Uh no, I just want him out of our casino..." She was assaulted, I was assaulted, and the guy is clearly intoxicated, and a danger to others... So I tell this piece of excriment that I'm letting him up and if he takes a swing he will be down for good... He gets up and screams at the top of his lungs at me and threatens the earth with his bare hands... And walks away... So I go in side with the guard and her manager, and as we're walking up the stairs, I realize that the two of them just fell down those stairs as she was grappling with him to get him off the premises... It was easily a 6 ft. fall... Either one of them could have been seriously hurt... I also realize I'm covered in DIRT... This guy was filthy... So I go use their restroom and clean up a bit, the manager gets me some water and thanks me for my assistance... The guard is pissed that I've mentioned how dumb it was to wrestle with that guy at the top of concrete steps... Wonder if I coulda got a comp'ed meal? I'm pretty much done with the crowds and traffic of vegas... Mike

Guys the only way you're gonna prove this topic is to take two BLOCKS, minus ALL other hardware and weigh them. You can't pile a bunch of parts ontop of either motor and weigh them like that and consider it myth busting... Don't get me wrong guys, YOU'RE ON TO SOMETHING... Now follow thru with it. What I've read is that the LS1 block is supposed to be between 80-90# lighter than the traditional 1/2nd gen SBC block. All other components are supposed to be similar and the LS1 crank is actually supposed to pack a little more weight... That's what I've read in a number of publications... Mike:cool:

Thanks Miles... Went out to the western rim access to the Canyon Yesterday. It was about 35 miles past hoover dam out Rt.93. I'll post some pics up in the http://photos.yahoo.com/dat74z folder under Grand Canyon as a title... It was simply amazing. I wanted to do the canyon 'copter tour, but the wife would have no parts of it... Women! Tore something soft and squishy in my right knee while up on one of the rocks getting a better view of the canyon, and now I'm limping and eating motrin... I'm thinking there's a bathtub full of scotch awaiting me somewhere this evening... This town is nutts... I don't know how people live in Vegas... It is one crazy place for sure... On another note, I think I have the roadster sold. Guy from Calgary BMW called me and wants me to take the car and have it inspected at an affiliate dealership. If it passes their inspection, he's wiring me the funds to purchase it and will have the car transported to Canada from Virginia. I'm stoked... Mike -
video of a A little Supra where it should be...Road Atlanta :-)

I'd comment about his driving, but it appears that he was on the track more than ONCE THIS YEAR and I can't say that... Considering that I spent MOST of that weekend in a SPEC MIATA rental... That said, He was frickin' flying. As to the pass where he moved over to the right on the front straight, My guess is he didn't lift because he was concerned about getting loose... There's a very famous video of a black viper almost taking out a 325 Bimmer... Strang things happen when you do abrupt things with pedals at that speed. Mike -
To bad it wasn't the bimmer, as I know how much you don't like it... Glad you didn't get hurt though! Mike

Hell Yea Dragon... And Gail is coming up from San Diego to go with us to the Canyon on Sunday, as of right now. Mike -
Possibly could be a magazine situation where these cars are being tested for a comparison for later article... The Ferrari were 430s ... No such thing as a 440 to my knowledge... Mike

YOu both have my cell... Maybe a little HybridZ shindig would be appropriate at, oh say the Palamino or the Cheeta? Ring my cell over the weekend and we'll work it out... We're getting in Saturday in the afternoon. Sunday we're getting up early and heading out to Hoover dam and possibly the grand canyon if I can get the wife motivated enough... Mike -
Wonder if IT could crack a walnut? Mike

My stepson had one of these as well, sold it to his best friend, who is now trying to sell it with great difficulty. They are often drewled on, and seldom get what they are truly worth, due to their nitch clientel (Kinda like my MRoadster)... I'd put it up for sale and see if you get any takers... You'll be in the boat I'm in... if it sells, great!! If it doesn't, GREAT car to be stuck with!!! Mike

Need Ideas, Keep Popping Freeze Plugs!
Mikelly replied to Garrett76Zt's topic in Trouble Shooting / General Engine
On a serious note, I'm with pitchinatent and boobboy...I think you've got block flex or the silicone sealer on the freeze plugs is the issue... I'd hit them all with JBWeld of tap and screw the remaining plugs. Mike -
Thinking of selling the V8 240Z...
Mikelly replied to RedZ85's topic in Gen I & II Chevy V8 Tech Board
I won't have the additional storage/garage space until then, and I'm simply not buying something to have it sit outside... The trackZ doesn't have door windows and will sit in the primary bay of the shop. The M Roadster is sitting in the 2nd bay of the attached garage at the house and the Wife's bimmer isn't sitting outside... Won't do that to her. Mikelly -

Marcus, Your car is to clean to sell man... If it's still forsale come spring, I may have to get with you on this one... MIke -
That bike is a heavy bike... They're close to 600# dry weight if my memory from an article I read a while back serves me... I'm actually thinking about something like that as a daily driver come spring...That or a ZXR1200... Not too many cars are gonna surprise an inline 4 in the 600CC class sport bikes (most are now running low 11s) and in the 1000CC and up sport and sporttouring classes... Mike

Looking good Bob. I hope to have some pics of mine to post shortly as well... Mike

Well my car has a front spoiler from MSA, and will have a fabricated splitter made of aluminum... The fenders have ZG flares, and I'll be running custom wheels with probably a 275 series slick on the rear with a 255 slick on the front in a size 17. The car has coil overs, camber plates, adjustable control arms/TC Rods, and will be capable of topping out 5th gear at 7500RPMs at well over 165mph. The back straight of Virginia international Raceway has a 3/4 mile straight, and I've had reports of other cars hitting over 160MPH on that section of road course. I've touched over 150MPH there in the modified corvette I used to own... The car has an extensive cage and fuel cell, and 13 inch brakes at all four corners. Mike

I was on the phone with Jamie Taylor last night discussing how close my car is to paint and how the rear BRE spoiler (Someone in England is rolling his eyes after reading this I'm sure...) is sitting on the rear deck. I told Jamie that I had another hatch and would want him to shoot it in the same color paint after I bought another spoiler or two... With any luck, I'll have the car back this weekend. My goal is to take several of these spoilers to the track and to test them at speed on a large road course. I'll do this in February with the Triad Zcar club IF I can get the car back together intime. Obviously I'll report back here on my findings... Are there any recommendations on other spoilers you guys would like me to test? I have the BRE rear spoiler, I also have the three piece rear larger traditional spoiler that sits in the same location... I'm thinking of buying a pedistal mounted rear WING that can be adjusted (Think ricer look), and I may buy a whaletail that I can bolt on and remove... It would take some modifying to make that work well... Suggestions please... Mike

The AZC stuff is on par with most of the other setups out there... It's not just "looks", but functional. Mark Icard (Mark here) and John Taylor (jt1) both use stuff from AZC if memory serves me... I've had some of the AZC stuff in house and installed it... It works fine. That said, JohnC. sells to notch stuff to, as does Ross at Modern Motorsports. So do your homework, ask those I mention above and others who will likely chime in, and go from there... Mike
