And again, I really disagree. I've seen guys drift bone stock AE86's which have no power. I've also seen guys drift stock S13's. There's tons of driver ability in it, just like racing. Many people don't appreciate a good race driver till they realise how insanely fast and consistent they can be with even a terrible vehicle. But I can see why your Z would be easier to drift with. But that still doesn't make the S13 bad man. There's enough people out there that can prove otherwise to that. Another thing to consider is that your stock Z has more torque in lower RPM than your S13 would ever have. But again, people drift the AE86 just fine with less than 80hp and they're not super light cars.

This is a Hybrid forum.. so what car can we put a L28ET in..

Yea, but it's still a fun topic I think. Maybe we should start a new one, but that kinda goes against the philosophy here from what I've seen. -
I usually keep it in 180 degree mode Much easier for me. Realistic? I don't know. I'd like to find out what most of the GT cars run for ratios.

Probably drifted right into a pole... I shouldn't be so mean. He probably just moved onto the next phad.

bah! the mark IV's have 4 eyes! Really creeped me out at first. Maybe I'll have to pick back up the photoshop paintbrush again.

I agree with you that it takes skill, but I find it funny that people equate "hard to do" with "must be skillled to do". In my opinion these are the types of cars that people should learn how to drift in. This is why the AE86 makes a great first drift car, becuase it's not as easy as people think. It takes lots of momentum and controlling the excess speed and maintaining as much of that energy as possible, since your engine won't be saving your butt at all on the exit. Oh yea, and i'm looking forward to the vid man

There's the motor the JX6 SHOULD of had. -
Personally I don't make fun of "rice" that has mody bodifications with performance truly in mind. It's the wing on the otherwise stock car I don't like (or worse yet, a FWD car that's stock). One of my favorite examples of rice is a car semi well known here in the bay. It's a focus that has a chopped mustang hood, fenders, head lights, tail lights, bumpers, trunk, ect. So it looks like a minimustang. Very ricey imo. Aero modification without thought... What I do like is form following function. Not form trying to change funciton. I'm not a huge fan of the front spoiler sticking out on one of the primadonnas, but I can understand the need. Thanks for sharing. I enjoyed the history lesson. Hopefully people will continue being as inovative with the Z cars (few other chassis can boast like the S30, just looking around here on HZ I know that I hang out around champions of custom engineering).

ok, who here as looked much at the subi engine bay? First time I comapred one of the older WRX 2 doors to my ZX side by side I though "hmm... well that'd be way more work than it'd be worth". To me the idea is mad. The flat engines are insanely wide and those cars are designed with super square/wide engine bays, not long/narrow like the Z cars. It might fit in a Z31 though. Should be even easier in a Z32, but there is't much point imo. The subi motors don't have much cheep potential, wich is unfortunate because they're great motors.
-
wow... that sounds like MORE work than building a tube chassis for it all. Maybe not. Either way it's an insane amount of work for what? Uniqueness? That seems to be about it.
-
I've got a great pic of it for one of my desktops. The transmission is huge, and an intregal part of the engine it seems. From the pic I have no clue how the oiling system works... Note the ouputs. Side you can't see is where there's the output that goes to the front diff. To me it looks like the tranny is half of what keeps the bottom end together. Kinda odd looking (though I think the newer lambos are built the same way).
-
Mike.... you're sick.. ...and I concur.
-
I think that was the major consensus before. Wich is why I doubt it's all that much faster than a stock one, but we don't really know unless we knew what his gearing was setup like.
-
It probably isn't anything what you think. Find the old discussion on it. It IS working in the driveline. A true jet engine car would look something more like this... Just because a turbin motor is based on rotating air doesn't make it that much different from any other internal combustion design. It's main goal is rotation, you then transfer that rotation to a driveshaft, quite simple. I've seen this turbin ZX for sale countless times. Either peope are using the pics/vids to scam, or he's having a hard time selling it. I'm betting he's only doing 70mph in those drive bys, and I bet his top speed isn't any better than a stock ZX. Though I bet he can go 70mph with much less continued effort.
-
The only reason the 6 mil figure is plausible to me is because of the super low production numbers. They need to get some of that R&D into other cars quick, to get some of that money back.

I could have very well got my wording a little misplaced. I'll have to find the AUTOWEEK it came from I think it was pertaining to the elise itself, and it was worldwide sales, since that year lotus starting selling in many new countries, not just the USA. I think they might have also been talking about GROSS INCOME, wich might be the main thing I quote wrong. The point I was trying make though is that lotus has been doing damn well with the elise lately and it's high time that other companies took notice. I'll try to find the article.
-
HAHAHAHA... all of the sudden the car makes a whole lot more sense when I think about it that way. ..I'd rather have the mclaren for the price though...
-
This is why lotus sold more cars in the first year in america with the elise then they've sold cars world wide in thier history right? The elise proved that a stripped down car CAN sell, if it's got it where it counts. And now the exige is proving that people were more than eager to get more power in that wonderful chassis. In my opinion nissan would be selling more Zs if they had a halo car that was stripped down, more carbon, with 300hp. That Z could then sell more base model Z's, just how evos sell lancers (I know plenty of well commissioning salesmen to know this is 100% true in my area, I can't speak for the rest of america). Yes I understand they veyron is 100% both sports car and luxury, but I also don't think that market really exists. Have you ever met an idiot that though 40hp felt slow? And have you ever met a racer that wants a cup holder out on the track? They make different cars for different reasons, and most big buck weekend racers don't want to bring a 200+k ferrari to the track, let alone a million dollor veyron. This is who the elise appeals to mostly, poeple who look at it as a bargain because for 50k it feels better on the track than thier "exotics". It's the same philosophy that many of the people here have, they have one Z for track/fun use, and seperate daily driver. In my opinion is more fun and makes more sense to have multiple cars for different uses, then to have one car that does everything.
-
Well we both agree 100% then. The only reason I'm so strict on my point is that the thread was about the SPEED of the veyron, thus it was titled "250 mph in a stock car". Considering speed, i think it's rubbish. That's all. And I 100% agree a veyron might be worth it's money and when you're shelling it out you're paying for it's R&D and much of that is very impresive, and we both agree though that it's utterly pointless
-
This is why the veyron won't beat the world record for the 0-100-0 right? (held by an ultima, a kit considered inferior to the noble). You're talking about a "stock" noble, and there are ones with 2-3 times those hp level. As soon as you start talking about "fit and finish" you start talking about what makes the veyron what it is, and I don't doubt that it's an exellent car. BUT it's not THAT increadibly fast IMO. That's what I'm getting at. If you're willing to go with a more "racey" feeling car that isn't as comfortable or well finished you can go just as fast with less than one fifth of the cash. There's also other cars with ludicrous speed, such as the ariel atom, a vehicle that can beat many bikes around a track.
-
Super hot piece of... i mean... functional personality.. and ALL I can think of... ...I wouldn't mind a chevy in my ZX so much if it sounded like that.... mMm
-
It was 6 million POUNDS per car from what I've heard. But common guys, it's one FAT lady. A much better car imo that costs far less is the saleen S7. Comparable accell, comparable top speed, better handling, and 100% race car derrived. And it's the only race car really giving ferrari a bad time out in the GT circuit. It's one BAD car. Who cares if you have 1000 AWD HP if you need a 800 pound tranny to do it all? Imo the veyron NEEDS 1000hp to push it's butt around. The main marvel is just how well this thing CAN handle in spite of itself. It's like how amazing the evo is for it's cargo space, it's just unheard of. The veyron is that on steroids. How "advanced" can we make a vehicle? The veyron is the answer. But it's certaintly not the fastest car you could make for a million bucks. Lets not forget that most of the worlds fastest kit cars would blow the doors off the veyron around a track for under 150k. (noble, ultima ect.) My hat is off for the engineers, but the whole thing seems like a waste to me.

This my boy, is called "developed talent", though some call it insanity. Try eating a carl's jr six dollor burger (guacamole) with a large drink in between the legs, with frys between you and the center console, driving stick on a mountain road. I've done it, and without ANY stains on me or the car. Though I can't vouch for the shirts from the learning process.
-
Everytime I've taken something apart I'm like "wow, this is really neat, look how the engineers designed this to be put together"... and yet I STILL have that issue getting it all back together... What does this tell me? NEVER rebuild a carb
-
Wow... that's REALLY impressive if you think about it. Not many older 4 bangers hitting that kind NA power, even the "large displacement" motors like the KA. There's probably more reliable power in a well build 5.0, but those prices for a build short/long blocks are very reasonable and sounds hard to beat. Thanks for this thread guys. This motor is going on my list of motors to learn about (other motor of high priority for me is the 60 degree toyota V6 motors). I always gotta keep learning, gotta be doing something when I'm not working on my car...
