  1. Woohoo, i'm not the only loony that likes thost 1st gen celicas I hope to buy one someday for my own idea of "restoration" (meaning leave only whats needed, improve the rest )
  2. :lmao: Well I think we could all use a little more tim taylor in our lives
  3. I think there's not enough Tim Taylor in you Congats on the successful outing. Looks like loads of fun.
  4. ^ ROFL. Geez that's great man. Still though... I think you went a little overboard on the "recovery" of your relationship.
  5. And I could go on all day about how 1.6 is a better game and source is just pretty. But there's no need. All the source games are great if you're just a casual gamer and are competitive, but for someone that's playing competitively then you start to hate a lot of valve's choices in the game (plus steams ever suckage). But I digress, there's no need to argue, just look at the fact that all the leagues have switched back to 1.6 and all the big sponsors with them. I'll lan source and not complain at all. Just only for fun. If I want a newer game to play seriously it'll be BF2142 (though alot of the feel of the game isn't as good as source).
  6. Looks like we have a few gamers. I'm tired, I just spend aabout 40+ hours away thanks to the wii premiere. Need to go to bed soon. Last MMO I played seriously was MCO (motor city online, yell if you've heard of it). But that was a racing MMO so it's not in the same catagory as WoW and others. I've just never been a huge fan of MMO games because for the most people I don't like sitting around with a bunch of people that have no life. If I don't have a life I don't want to be reminded of it by other people all day FPS games seem different, it's much more culturally advances somehow. Maybe it has to do with the older audience age average, or maybe that RPG's tend to attract nerds that get over obsessed with game advancement. A FPS you can stop any time and you're not gonna loose anything by not playing for a month (except maybe some skill) and in RPG games now every else you know is X amount of levels higher than before while you're still where you were at. This is the downfall to MMORPG games that makes them overly addicting and why they're such a problem for many people. I have nothing against the games, I just think alot of these kids playing nowdays need to learn that they're wasting their life away by getting obsessed with these games. Though I've been considering starting some MMO games just for extra work. (though most companies try their best to keep people from doing this) Ok everyone, I'm going to bed. Then in the morning I'm playing the new zelda. Oh, and to date my obsession... the first game I got new and played all the way through, was the original duke nukem on DOS. Those were the days. I think I clocked well over 3 years of my life on street fighter 2. Kinda stupid of me, but man was it fun.
  7. I'm mainly playing BF2142 nowdays. Source = The fail. Though DoD is probly the best of the bunch. If anyone ever wants to lan, I'm at my buddies place at least once a month doing small lans. We play just about anything. Bring it and we'll play it
  8. I don't know if that's fair to either party. Jags are more reliable than that And ford people aren't that mean (least the ones i've ever met). For the most part it's the european fans I've met that are through and through jerks. I've met honda purists that are still cool about other cars and such. I've met all sorts of american car guys that are still cool. But with the euro people it's like "if you don't have a [insert euro company] then you can't talk to me". I know that's all stereotype, but it's just what I've experience. I'd love for a euro fan to prove me wrong and go for a drive with me or something.
  9. i'm doing this swap now. everything changes, and if you want to convert to the turbo dash guages it's alot more work (wich doing now). It basically means changing LOTS of wiring on the entire car. It's a real pita. Looking at it now, I'm much more comfortable designing my own dash in the future and wiring it in myself. The stock system is very poorly design IMO and isn't intended to really be taken out easily. This is probly a good thing to mention in this FAQ, that if you want a 280ZX to begin with, it's much more affordable and less time consuming to find a car that you don't have to do a swap into. I bought a donor car wich was well kept by someone here on HZ for $1,350. Same week I passed up a sweet deal on a clean 280ZX turbo for $1,800 wich was having some small issues. Looking back on it I should have just spent the 1,800, oh well. It might be more expensive, but it's probly more effective to just go stanadalone from the begining. The way I see it, if you're gonna put a bunch of work into wiring the new engine in, you may as well put in something that will just need to be replaced in the future if you want more power. Plus the effiency of one of the newer systems is nice. Much more solid air/fuel ratio.
  10. Your link from the first page I can't view unless I register at 300ZXforums (wich I might already be registered, I forget). And then there's the link on this page that you posted and on that page it's a black Z31. I don't know what year that car is exactly, but it's of the first half of the Z31 years. There was a distinct change in the Z31 cars, but I've forgotten what year it took place (i'm sure 80% of members here know what year it was). Lemme see if I can find some pics to help you identify the year differences. This car is a 87, note the rear tail lights. They're the dead give away of the year change. http://z31.com/misc/images/87/Ikes87T4.jpg The main changes: Turbo when to a smaller unit Old: T3 New: T25 Engine compression when up Old: 7.8 New 8.3 Boost changed due to compression Old: 6.8 PSI New 4-5 PSI Limited Slip Differntial (these are highly saught after units by pretty much every Z guy) I think there were other changes but those are the most significant.
  11. Yea, rust in sparce forms tends to either come from poor car design, destroyed seal, or poorly fixed problems (such as fender bender). The best investments you can make for a car you're trying to sell is cosmetic. It's amazing how much more people are willing to pay for a car that's shiny than dull. But simple tune up maintainence and the likes go along way in getting buyers convinced and also gives you piece of mind of not cheeting someone and leaving them with a good running vehicle. I hate selling cars that have problems.
  12. Rear corner panels are not fun to replace. It usually requires cutting the old one out, then welding in a new one. If the car has rust issues then I'd recomend selling it. If you're SURE that it's repairable with easy panel swaps then it's not bad. If you want to go with a Z31 and you want to keep costs to a minimum I'd HIGHLY recomend finding a later Z31 Turbo. It'll have alot of useful things such as LSD, turbo efi, turbo manifolds, ect. If you turbo your stock motors there's lots of different parts between the two motors. You'll basically be changing everything other than the block. The stock turbo motor can make some good power stock with a better turbo (stock is only a T25) system upgrades. It doesn't have an intercooler like most turbo cars of the 80's. If it's mostly going to be a track car then maybe you do want to buy something else. I personally prefer the 280ZX over the older Z cars for a daily driver. The older ones are significantly smaller and more cumbersome to drive (to me). I've heard very good things about the Z31 but it's like the bastard child of nissan, much the same as the 280ZX. It's not really an older Z, and it's not really the same as the later Z32 300ZX, and certainly doesn't fit in with the 350Z crowd. I've gone to a fair amount of Z car shows and in order of quantity it goes 350Z, then S30 Z cars (240,260&280Z), 300ZX (Z32), 300ZX (Z31), 280ZX. Sometimes there's more Z32 cars than S30 cars, but I've never see the 280ZX not be the rarest car at a meet. I only mention this to show these car's popularity in thier own crowd. The more people you know with the same car the easer it is to get advice and such when working on it, wich is a nice thing to have. It's also a good representation on how many cars there are out there to pick parts off of. Personally I see a lot more Z31 cars than Z32 cars at junkyards, but I just think most of thier owners aren't car lovers wich is why I don't see many of them at car shows. The most Z31 cars I've ever seen at a meet was around 15, and we had about 100 cars that day. Majority was Z32, then 350Z after that. I personally think you just buy what you like, then make it what you want, and call all the recipts the price of love. If you like the Z31 go for it. They're good chassis. If you're gonna autox it then just strip the heck out of it. There's lots of motor options out there and most motors will fit into most engine bays with enough work. Oh, and listen to mtcookson, he knows his stuff. And this is a good site to visit. http://www.redz31.com/ And for future refference hybridz doesn't have the largest 300ZX tech section in the world, and there's better forums out there, but the atmosphere here is second to none and I highly recomend sticking around.
  13. Though with an RB parts are generally more expensive in general, though I guess that's not a problem since stock they're not all too far from 300hp anyways. My car is test only this year!!! Bah those evil government spooks. They musta known I was planning an engine swap. Oh well, the ball is still in my court and I'm looking good. But once I get it legalised I'm gonna consider how hard it'll be to get an RB25DET in there without anyone being the wiser that it's not a "2.8 Nissan Turbo" motor (the engine label doens't legally need to specify what the engine code is, it just as to mention year, displacement, and manufacture, I just wish you good luck in finding a ref that will only put that on the label).
  14. You know everytime this thread gets bumped and it shows up in my user CP again I get all exited... then I see it was just a bump. Darn you guys!
  15. Weather hasn't been great, wich is why I wanted to finish sooner. Oh well. I've decided to just convert all the wiring on the entire car. I've got all the wiring pulled off the NA car and I'll soon be pulling the wiring from the turbo car while labling it. The main thing I'm worried about is what I'm going to do with the extra length of cable since it's a 2+2 car. I'll probly just put the excess behind the seats or something.
  16. Nice way to check air/fuel ratio... via plugs... Yea, I think i'm getting a a/f guage long before I start turning up boost on my L28et. I'm just not that brave. Let me know how you like those plugs. I'll be buying a set off the bat anyways, along with new injectors (though I'll probly just get some junkyard turbo ones).
  17. wow... 1st post. SMOOTH move NISSAN4EVER... Do me a favor and read something before you try to speak, it might help you a bit. I'll be suprised if he lasts 10 posts at this rate. Oh well. If you DON'T want to get baned, you'll want to study the rules of the board.
  18. Yea I agree with ya there scottie. A quite race car is like a quite rock band. It just shouldn't exist.
  19. Well done as always zlalomz. I did absolutely nothing all night. Maybe I should have drove out to sac to check out those killer props. Christmas is soon approching. Now THAT's scarry. Time flies too fast.
  20. You never stated what he was using to control the oil injection, though I admit I don't fully understand the process anyways. And do you know how many rx7 owners do this? You mention only one but I know there's tons of decently modified rotory cars out there. But don't feel neglected, I saw your post I just should have written a more complete post with more specific questions
  21. Yea, the whole song I couldn't help think "man, this is where no doubt would have been if they'd had stayed on track and not tried to stay mainstream. Oh well, now we're just left with yet another void filled buy more pop crap. Oh the wonderful life of a musician..
  22. So are the 400+hp RX7s out there running premix or different standalones? Or are they just running leaner than they should? Sounds like a hassle and a hazard to run remix in a tank system that wasn't designed for it. But I know you know what you're talking about aux, wich is why I ask
  23. street legal... but does he tow it to the track? Honestly I don't freakin care, that's fast no doubt. But everytime I see a supra or something else in the 10 second range on a daily drive car it gives me the shivers. Something in the 7 sec range that would really be streetable enough to be driven around town or even to the grocery store would make me faint.
  24. I could have excused this entire comment if you'd just said you found MOST american vehicles unacceptable. I'm not going to argue that we americans have all sorts of amazing vehicles, becuase I know that a very high percentage of what we produce here is utter garbage. But there are many cars that are worthy of being made and have received high praise from people around the world. The new C6 corvette is probly at the top of the list for america. The ford GT though now ending production was well regognised as a very impressive vehicle and could hold it's own with many super cars of similar and even higher value. The new GM roasters are taking on the world like they're on a mission and though albet not perfect they're having a fun time showing the competitors there's a new game in town. I'm as prideful as most americans. But I'm also not one that thinks that our cars are amazingly awsome. I'm just not someong pig-headed enough to make blanket statements that would dismiss that nearly 300 million people can't make a good car. Granted I'm sure i've said some idiotic things in my past that I wouldn't mind rectifying if called upon. Maybe you'll do the same, maybe you won't. Frankly I don't really care, this is more about making a statement than trying to convince you. Take care Oh, and to be on topic. I understand that the usa wouldn't want diesels on the road becuase they're not smogged currently, but how does that effect companies from producing diesel cars? I'm not saying anyone is wrong, I'd just like to know.
  25. So when are they ever gonna start making diezel oops (guitar palyer syndrom) diesel motors here in the USA? I mean over in the UK you can get nearly any car in a diesel option. They burn cleaner, get better mpg, and can be more powerful (especially for SUVs and such where tourque means much better responce). The only thing I can think of is that maybe companies are taxed for putting out diesel motors in the usa or something. Why else would all these companies not have a diesel option? And I honestly can't wait to see a real production diesel muscle car. That would be cool.
