  1. So seriously, can I send you my car for you to sell? I think if I painted it and did the rust repair I'd get alot more over there than I would here. Are there any ads for any S130 ZX cars?
  2. Fastest car you've raced is a non Z06 vette?! Do all your friends have slow cars? First week I had my gold ZX I race my friends 800hp (with blower disenguaged, didn't have it all working at the time and was STILL pushing 800 on the dyno) stang. Of course I lost when his right foot flinched but it was still fun watching it FLY past me. Then I race my buddies CRX, wich beat me... That sucked. I thought I might have him on the start due to his suspension needing lots of work. So what more important? The money from selling the car, or the space? Maybe you should try to sell some parts off it somehow and keep it 8) And I think you need to look at weight reduction more than anything else for the STR-4. Loosing 100-200 pounds by putting on all carbon panels (minus doors & corner panels) should make a big difference.
  3. But what about cars between the 74' mark that akwikz mentioned and the 83' shipping mark. Sure no customs, but you still have to figure out how to smog it. That could be it's own ordeal all together.

If a car is post 76' and you do a motor swap, you have to pass the emission test of the vehicle the motor came from every other year. If it's pre 76' then you do ONE initial test as the car the motor came from, then you have NO SMOG. The car is still smog exempt. This means as long as the motor "looks" stock, then you're 100% fine. This is why a supercharger would be better. It would be a piece of cake to slap on a roots style blower and make it look OEM with some lexus badging. Good luck ever doing that with turbos.
  5. ^ What jason said. Over by my house there's a guy I LOVE who owns a shop called "sound advice" and his prices are always better on parts, and he doesn't charge alot for labor. I've never had him install anything becuase I can do it myself, but his prices are way cheeper than any of the big companies. And the best part is that he gives advice for FREE! I love it, my first stereo job (custom fosgate sys in an old 70's BMW) would have never been completed if it hadn't of been for his advice. I've never recieved help like that at any corperate store and I know too many people who do or used to install sereo systems at places like that. They all don't know a thing about stereos, or working on a car for that matter. You know what I think would answer you question pjo? Go drive a 79'-83' 280ZX. They're not too much bigger than the older Z cars and they come with all the luxury options. Power mirrors, power windows, cuise control, power steering (or at least it seems like power steering), power brakes (i think the older Zs have power brakes too). The only thing they don't have is power seats & keyless entry. Very advanced for it's time. Power on those is around the same as the earlier Z cars (guess from a 280Z i've driven that was stock). They seems to have a little more pickup, wich might be due to the factory 5 speed on all cars. They do feel thier weight though, they get real sloppy around turns. This is probly fixible and even with all the features you'll be adding you won't quite reach the weight of the 280ZX cars. But it would show you the extreme for you.

Thanks for the links. Good finds. The ony thing I'd recomend from the information I've gathered is MAKE SURE to find out what year/model the motor came from. There seems to be tones of little changes here and there. So I'm not too worried about the tranny now. I'm thinking that since my grandfather's lexus is a 93 and has the pre VVTi motor in it, I'll look at just doing a quick and dirty swap and use the auto. Once I get the swap legalised I can pretty much do anything I want as long as it "looks" like a stock toyota motor So at that point I can do a newer V8 motor with a procharger, lowered compression, head porting (to accomodate higher revs) and aftermarket cams to maxamise the supercharger. Motor should be good for 8k. I have no clue yet where the tourque peak would be yet. There isn't a ton of data out there that I've been able to find. But at any rate it will be WAY too much power, and that's a good thing 8) And the best thing? No smog as long as the S30 is pre 76'. Dang I love loop holes.
  7. I have no idea, but that hood looks so "at home" on that car. The motor does look very OEM though.
  8. Watched it last night and watched it again after burning it onto a DVD.... NERO SUCKS!!! DIE YOU )(@#%$)*!#)*&%!#)*)@$#*^ %(^)$^ Nero's encoding sucks my %%$@. Took almost half an hour to encode and the quality is about half the origonal, and the audio came out with some slight distotion on the higher register that could be described as "tinny". It's a direct file size convertion, why can't nero actaully be a good product? I'm gonna try again tongiht with a differnt program.
  9. Dang! I'm bringing my 33k ZX to japan to sell it! DANG.
  10. Hmm, paint doesn't look like it's in great shape, but oddly there is still something very sexy about that car. 8)

Well, if you don't mind. I've got one here but it's in a car, so some measurements might be a little hard to get. I've been trying to find a manual that will bolt up to it but havn't had any luck. I think that's the key to the swap.
  12. But who really needs more than 600HP? Wich is atainable in plenty of V6 motors. Centrifugal superchargers are also a good option for V6 motors. Just because they don't make the same HP/displacement as many other motors out there doesn't mean they should be discarded. They offer many other benefits that shouldn't be over looked.
  13. d/ling at 900k a sec... very good site... should be done in less than 20 minutes.

For that price I could make a really cheep insane go-kart. Someone bid!!!!!!!
  15. Now that I think about the meaning of "few and far between" that might be a little extreme. They're definatelly the minority though.
  16. Yea, it's most important to make sure there's good contact on the ring ends. The vid that was posted showed a pretty good way of doing it. And the sleave around the piston to get it in is the way I was taught by a guy who worked for toyota for 30+ years and is now a teacher at a community college (he would be retired, but he likes teaching to keep him busy) You should download the vid since it's a 4G63 build.
  17. time to turn it into a hero?
  18. ^ WORD! Although pushrod motors are nice and easy to work on DOHC motors have advantaged for sure. Reliable high HP pushrod motors are few and far between (most being chevy as they've refused to let the pushrod die) and there are many DOHC V8 motos that can make 500hp on low octane if they have to. They usually rev smoother and higher as well. Bottom of block is usually stronger. Getting rid of pushrods themselves eases my mind alot. Now, I love some of the pushrod motors. But I new cars need to push new technology. That's just me.
  19. http://www.nhtsa.dot.gov/cars/rules/import/graymarket_RI_list06202005.html do you love me yet? I think this is my first ever meaningful post!!!! WOOOHOOO!
  20. Isn't it always possible to add some links to the steering system to move it out of the way? Seems like that would be MUCH easier than changing everything over to RHD. Although that's darn sexy.
  21. My Z gives me grief all the time! The stock 280ZX EFI is in the way of EVERYTHING. Holy crap. I'm tempted to install a custom fuel rail just to get all the garbage out of the way.
  22. Hmm, ok. I see the dielema. I'll try to find some stuff for you, but don't get your hopes up. Texas is a great home for foreign cars
  23. I don't understand why so many people are agianst the V6. It's got potential. But regardless they're not going to get much more than 400hp out of it stock (at least in the US) due to regulations.
