  1. Is it leather? I'll assume so considering the thred. Black is ALWAYS doable for leather. The gray might end up looking slightly colored. Got pics?
  2. when I have kids someday (long time from now) i'm making sure they ALL do at least some form of race schooling. Knowing a car's limit is the first step in avoiding it. And if they get addicted? All the better, as long as they learn the only correct place for it is at the track. That xtrememeasures place does sound cool though.

S2000s run 11:1 and I thought before the .2 liter increase they were 11.5:1 but I just looked it up and it seems to be 11:1 as well. The hotter a burn the more NOx is created. It also becomes EXTREMELLY hard to ensure an 'even' burn, wich is much more important. Another thing to consider is the first gen 2 liter S2k was the highest HP per liter than ANY production car in the USA has seen. Yet somehow thier emission levels are realativelly low. Quite odd.
  4. Trust me, I don't assume there's a HP limit on metal. I'm not an idiot by any means. BUT, under NA or FI situations you can guage the HP limit of a bottom end withing a window. I understand that lightening the piston will have MANY benefits. The only con is possible weakening of the piston. If they're still well within the critical thickness I assume they'll be fine well within the HP limits of the L series motors. Should definatelly be worth the work I'd love to hear some audio of that thing rev once it's put together.
  5. Sounds more like 80mph... I'm sorry to hear about all this. I admit, I do some stupid things out there on the road, but I try to keep my invovlement with other cars to a MINIMUM whenever I do something I know is stupid. Somethings I just DON'T do. Like drive fast in the rain, or fog. Drive anything over 30 in a school zone (often even go slower than the 25 limit), and NEVER do anything because another driver "enticed" me too. If I'm only 18 and had these personal rules since I was 16 it's much more than just "experience", it's a mindset on life. It's sad to see how many people have a death wish, weather they know it or not. Hope he recovers well. Hope this all means something to him.
  6. Becuase we suck in the states, didn't you get the memo? Yea, most all the good motors end up in jap & aussie land. Sup wit dat? (there are also some good motors in europe, but most of those make thier way to the US)
  7. oops, didn't realised you'd posted. Here's a second link to the thumbnail since I just edited my last post.
  8. What about the Gnose, that in the blue as well? Here's what I got in... 5 minutes maybe. Kinda a hard photo to edit it with the VERY dynamic lighting.
  9. I know a thing or two about leather work, and you CAN'T dye leather a brighter color, just in case anyone out there was gonna spray thier black jacket yellow Leathers only like to darken. If there's a product that actually lightens, then it's a new layer all together and it may as well be fake leather then.
  10. I think auxilary isn't human. No carbon based life form has seen such a high percentage (or all for that matter) of the internet.
  11. A recent RB25 I saw recently looked REALLY clean for a street/track shop job. http://photobucket.com/albums/b346/Gollumandsmeagol/?action=view&current=GreenS30RB25DET2.jpg If you used the NA motor (wich can still get fair enough power) you could REALLY make it look clean.
  12. yea bsosick, i'm still hunting junkyards. I'm waiting for a responce from the nissan yard out by sacramento, but no word today (jerks... not really, i just want a fender NOW). It would be alot cheeper in the end.
  13. Yea, the formula cars aren't allowed to have any driver assists, so at high speeds it's physically impossible to lock the brakes up. Just way too much downforce grip.
  14. Wow... That's why you gotta take it to the track.
  15. holy crap... How much HP are these gonna actaully be able to take?

I personally wanna see a smog test sheet on mack's car more than a dyno sheet... There's lost of talk around here in CA about copression issues with smog. I've talked with countless performance mechanics, smog refs, engineers, and all of them don't understand why the new S2000 can pass CA smog laws on such a high compression. Many turbo cars out there hit just as high of compression on boost, but only under WOT. During the smog tests the turbo eliminates alot of emissions my creating a more complete burn and the motor is lower compression to begin with, so it's easy to pass smog for them. But somehow honda performed a miracle.
  17. i wonder how nervous I am about this compared to you. I really want to see you keep the car (not that I wouldn't want to own it )
  18. I think he was planning on getting heads from a JY explorer. That would be much cheeper than any new head (such as the AFR heads). I personally think you're best bet for going budget will be looking for some good JY or used heads out there and porting if need be, then matching with a good cam. I personally would just be patient and look for some used AFR heads. They really are great heads. If you're not gonna go above 400HP I wouldn't dump too much money on the bottom end. I wouldn't do a stroker, becuase I think if you're gonna rebuild the bottom end you may as well make it ready to handle 600HP+ wich is pointless in your case. There are plenty of ways to get to 400hp, but finding a cheep way can be hard when looking at new parts. If you can, try to score a used supercharger system for cheep. That'll get you to 400hp on a completelly stock motor. (injectors might need an upgrade)
  19. On a recent BMI they tested 18 inch VS 19 inch setups and I think the 19 inch setups ended up being slightly larger in diameter and slightly heavier (like right around 1kg). The 19 inch setup was fast by about .3 of a second at sukuba, wich is a low minute track. It was just enough to make a small different in each turn (great side by side video comparison). To be fair though, the driver didn't feel much difference, and he's a pro driver, so that's saying alot. With aluminium rims I think weight increase is fairly minimised as you decrease the tire sidewall size. Another thing they talked about on the BMI is how rim manufactures are starting to make aluminium rims that flex better instead of cracking.
  20. Yea, it's amazing how different cars sound from different locations. I've only sat in the passanger side of my car once, that was wierd. All the mustangs i've ever been in are much louder and deeper in the back seat versus the front.
  21. sounds like you need a pod bra. edit: I couldn't resist, i'm sorry.
  22. You know, I finally understood that towards my last post on this thred. But somehow his wording makes it alot easier to understand. I think my mind overcomplicated it all.

I just totally figured out why you loose the quench, I understand now. I WILL admit I don't have alot of experience in headwork, BUT was I wrong in my origonal statements? I simply wanted to stress the fact that putting a MN47 on a flat top motor isn't all that "simple" and there are things to consider, such as the fuel system. On any ZX car under smog regulations this is a BIG issue. Expecially in CA since a megasquirt system is basically illegal. If anything I'm glad for this thred. It could clear up alot of things for people considering the swap in the future. And now I can personally say SEARCH next time someone comes looking for MN47 information. Hope there's no hard feelings left here.

Quench is mostly in chamber design, I still don't understand how .5:1 difference will make a huge difference. Is that smallist distance really gonna make THAT much a difference in where the air/fuel goes? I do realise that quench is one of the biggest factor for detonation, but I always thought with a flat top piston setup quench relies 100% in head chamber design. I still don't uderstand why lowering the compression would yield such a sever result as to loose almost all quench. Like i said, i'm not trying to debunk you or anything. I just want to learn something from you, so please don't get too defensive.
  25. now we know what happens when you let drifters become pilots
