I need to upgrade my injectors as well as my ecu, its as simple as that. At least im getting an idea of whats going on then. I would have thought with the bigger 370's that it wouldnt run as lean up top but then again I would guess also this has a lot to do with the stock ecu. I swear I would believe it really limits this car in so many aspects. Bastaad do you have any links on how to figure your fuel to air flow curve to know what size injectors you need to push x amount of compressed air from yoru turbo? What is weird is that with the stock T3 as far as I could see I wasnt having any problems at 15psi. , then again that was with a much smaller turbo, so this means its definetly time for SDS and bigger injectors What do you guys recommend? Thanks for all your replies as well.

First Ill tell you about the car then go onto whats wrong with the car. It is a 1982 280zx turbo. Upgrades that I have done to this car are as follows. T3/TO4E turbo, .63 ar exhaust, stage 3 wheel, .60 ar compressor with a 57 trim wheel. 3 inch mandrel bent exhaust turbo back, dynomax straight threw muffler. SVO 370cc injectors 240SX 60mm throttle body Bosch fuel pressure regulator set at 43 psi static Pallnet fuel rail Walbro fuel pump Greedy (yes I said greedy) BOV Bar and plate intercooler from a porshce 944 (thanks to bumblezee) 2.25 inch intercooler piping (mandrel bent) NGK BPR7ES plugs NGK wires (not really an upgrade I know) Z31 LSD OK here is the problem The car runs fairly well but does have a bit of a idle problem which is expected due to the injectors and still running on stock electronics and ecu, with garbage flapper door afm. I have tightened the afm 18 teeth as per most here on the forum that have done this. What the car will do is run like a raped ape up till about 4000 rpms then it power will just fall off. From what I can tell is that I am able to run up to about 15 psi of boost without any problems at all till 4000 rpm where the fuel will go from rich and just fall straight off. I do feel it in the car and I know this sounds stupid as the readings I am getting are after all has happened but as it falls off the car does the same as well, with the O2 sensor hooked up the car will run and idle fine untill (watching the af gauge) it starts to go out of the stoich area. Then it will act up with the missing idle. Now before the upgrades to fuel and what not on the stock turbo boosting at 15 psi I had not one problem. With upgrading it seems that its just getting worse and all parts are new, well less the lsd of course. The plugs, wires, fuel filter, are all new. I dont understand why it will fall off like this at 4000 exactly, I know I shoudl be able to go to at least 5000 rpms. Can anyone understand what Im trying to put out here and give me the advice to try and remedy my situation. I know that the best thing for me to do would be to go to a stand alone system, but at the moment I just cant afford that. It just seems all that I do to make this car run better and a bit faster just makes it harder to get going properly, then again if I were doing it right maybe I wouldnt have such problems. I think I just need a stand alone to solve my problems and be done with it or sell the car and be done with all the headaches its currently giving me.

Yes that much I do know but is it set up like the 280ZX of sorts, meaning that well with the 280ZX's TPS, it only uses two of the plugs which would be the last two toward the firewall.
-
Is the 240SX TPS adjusted in the same manner as the 280ZX is? I was trying to go about adjusting mine today on my car and cannot get a reading at all which seems really strange in itself, thinking possibly that the TPS might be bad. Can anyone tell me how I would go about adjusting this TPS for use with my 280ZX turbo, and which two plugs that I should use in case I am using the wrong plugs with my set up currently. Thanks for any help that anyone can give to this small problem.

haha That is always the way it happens though isnt it. actually the worst part of the whole ordeal was getting the pipe to fit nicely under the axle and over the crossmember. In the end though it all came together nicely

Wow that looks incredible, really like what you have done there and not to mention that custom intake manifold is incredible. Very nice job, very nice job.

Well in any event it is nice to see who the "TRUE" adult was in this instance and just revel in that fact, not to mention Karma is a real biatch !!!

This was really funny in a way, I was just driving around town as where I live usually rolls up the streets at about 10pm. So as Im out and about testing and playing a bit with my new set up, of the things I upgraded on my 82 ZX turbo. Those of which were the turbo thanks to James Thagard, 60mm TB and port matched the intake, and of course a full turbo back 3 inch exhaust, I was out just having fun and seeing what the car would do with the new things and the new turbo at 10psi. I had gotten the hybrid T3/TO4E, .63 exhaust stage 3 wheel, and .60 compressor with a 57 trim wheel. Well back to what I was saying Im going down this one long strip of road and as I pull up to the red light about 500 feet down the road I notice the red car next to me is a new Z. Im like how cool is this a first gen ZX and a new Z side by side at a red light, how often do you see this you know. I roll down my window and blow the horn to give a wave and mention of our both having Z's of different eras. Well that was not to happen as the guy either was very cocky or just an Ahole as he didnt give me a second look, so Im thinking well this is quite rude, he probably doesnt even know what Im driving anyway and left it go. Well the light turns green and I speed off normally, then I hear him come up and hes revving hard, and I think oh he wants to show me how his car is much faster then mine. Well hes about right beside me now and I punch it into third flooring the pedal. Ill say this that the 350Z does have some grunt as he kept up for a bit till about 85 when I hit fourth and was outta there. Worst is I think it made him even madder as I beeped and waved as he went to the right and I to the left, and he still didnt even acknowledge me. Hmm makes me wonder are all 350Z owners just so stuck on themselves? Nice to know though at 10psi I was easily able to beat that new Z. Cant wait to see what I can push outta this car now

Uggh if it ever stops raining I promise I will post pics. This week looks to be miserable!!

Hey hoke there is a relay, I dont know if you are hearing it click or not, but it is in the fender well on the passenger side, at least on my 82. It is green in color, For the longest time, till I was able to track it down at least to its source I didnt know what was stopping the car from starting but that was it. I dont know if the 81 harness has that but I would think that part of it is there. Like you I would have fuel, spark but no ignition. Check that relay to see if it is giving you a problem, it will at least on my car stop it from starting.

It is unbelievable how much better it sounds now and how it seems the car runs faster though I know well it probably is, but not by no great effect. I love the sound through the Dynomax muffler and its a great mellow tone with no droning effect either, just nice pleasant deep and mellow. I had to do a bit of cutting and welding and cuting and fitting pieces and even though it was a bit of a daunting task at times it at least to me had come out really well, I think its a good job at least. It is late now and even though I wanted to get some pictures I had to drive it first, but as soon as possibly Ill post some pics of my exhaust. To anyone with a turbo that hasnt gone 3 inch mandrel bent exhaust I would highly recommend it just for the sound and the flow effect, It seems that the turbo spools without even knowing it. Boost just comes right on. hehe Im like a kid at a candy store Im so excited.

Yeah I had just got done making mine as well and its a tight fit on the 280zx but it is nice and its not dragging or hanging to low, I would have liked to get 2 45's but had to go with 90's as there just is no way to do this with the stock manifold on the 280zx. I recommend doing it, I had an immediate buy dyno effect. Not to mention it sounds great.
-
Hey Vinh if you dont like the sound of the Magnaflo I would suggest going with a Dynomax muffler. I have had that muffler or quite sometime, it is a straight threw and it sounds excellent. I think it has a better tone and is a bit more on the milder side then the Magnaflo. Nice looking job though. The car is awesome.
-
I would also have to suggest going to James Thagard, and dealing with him. My experience with hime was very pleasurable and he is very knowledgable. Always completely proffessional and willing to help in anyway that he possibly can. Nothing but good things to say for Mr, Thagard.

WOW that is really neat, hehe I would love to have a set of those, can you imagine eveyones eyes at the track when you start to smoke your tires hehe.

New turbo installed again, but a few questions?
EZ-E replied to EZ-E's topic in Turbo / Supercharger
Doesnt anyone know how I should plum this turbo? Help please -
It might tone and quiet the exhaust with full tubing but no just with two bends off from the dp, I just fabricated my 3 inch dp, and its only on from the turbo to the middle of the door and it is quite LOUD. Then again, the way you sound like a Mack truck going down the road is sweet too. Mine will end eventually into a Dynomax straight threw muffler, they sound really nice.

First off let me say that James Thagard of http://www.speedshopthagard.com has the greatest of garrett turbos, he was well knowledgeable and very helpful in many ways with what I was wanting for my application. Not to mention very helpful and courteous throughout the whole trasnaction, anyone looking for a turbo from garrett I would strongly recommend going with him. Sorry for the plug but just wanted to share my experience with him. Now for what I was asking. I have the garrett T3/TO4E turbo. exhaust .63 compressor ar .60. On this turbo though unlike the stock T3 unit, it doesnt have the inlets on the compressor housing like with the stock unit. This unit also has an adjustable wastegate that is a universal unit, now going with what was stock on my car, so Im not sure where to plumb the vacumn line that comes off the waste gate, where should it go to, the intake? Im also guessing that since this universal gate is threaded it is how Ill be adjusting boost, if not then will I use my old set up of what was a Halman boost controller, standard bearing and spring type. Also if anyone has bought this type of turbo, how did you if you did, use the wastegate that came with the turbo from garrett. Im asking as with the stock turbo, it had an inlet on the comperssor side, as stated before and the new garrett doesnt. Well before with the stock turbo the vacumn line off the wastegate plumbed into that on the compressor side, and the Halman boost controller was in between. I dont see how I can do this with this turbo. One thing this is on a 280zx turbo car. Ill post some pics shortly of the wastegate and turbo so you have an idea of what Im talking about as well. Here are the pics, hope the links work.. http://album.hybridz.org/showphoto.php?photo=2648&cat=500&page=1 http://album.hybridz.org/showphoto.php?photo=2649&cat=500&page=1

That looks exactly like one that sold on ebay a while back for about 6 or 7 k, it had been posted about 2 or 3 times before it finally sold though. One is to wonder if he was the buyer.

On another note Bastaad, if you can weld a dp isnt that much to make yourself. I just bought my flange, 20 dollars, the cone 20 dollars and you would need only one J or U bend in 3 inch for another 20 dollars. Total cost plus shipping would be about 80 for a dp. I bought 3 other J bends so add another 60 dollars, now just for adding some extra for the straight pieces of 3 inch that I will need, that will be about 165 total to weld up my complete 3 inch exhaust minus the cost of a good muffler. http://www.performancepeddler.com sells the 3 inch J bends for a little over 20 dollars and charge no shipping at all. I got 4 J bends from them for 81.80 total. If you search you can make your own system fairly cheap then again if you know how to weld.

Ive been doing some research on fuel pumps and whats good and whats not good, between all that are available out there from one site to another over the internet, and the standing concensus seems to be that there are 2 good fuel pumps. One being the Walbro GLS392, and there is the other which is a Bosch counterpart, but I couldnt find anything on the bosch unit with a part number. All sites seemed to focus on one mainly great quality of the Bosch pump that the Walbro didnt have and that was the ability to run at a higher pressure without losing almost half of its volume. IE. with the Walbro @ say just a random number anything above 60psi lph would drop dramatically where the Bosch still kept pumping true. Now Im not one that is going for 5 or 600 hp but what would be the better pump of the two for a turbo motor that will in the end be at about 400hp in its final phase? I would like your insights and also to see the reasons why you chose your fuel pump above any others.
