  1. Thanks, I would like to have made it much better then what it looks but I guess that you cant get anywhere if you dont try and work and practice to make it right. I agree that it is great muffler and I love the sound, and it seems to not have changed over the 3 years Ive had it and it was on the car from the previous owner. So there is no telling how old it really is. You know Sleeper you are totally right as well. you can hear the turbo spool without even getting on it at all. Just in normal driving you hear it like you would the tractor trailer next to you, when he just pushes the pedal. That nice whrrrrrrrrr from the turbo. Like I said, doing the work isnt that hard, the hardest part was all the cutting and fitting. Mostly becuase I was looking at it this way, you can always cut more off if you need to, but you cant put it back lol. Thanks for all the compliments guys, on my first real big welding project.
  2. Hmm now I feel really stupid yet I dont know how this happened, one thing I didnt do was to check the timing, DUH on my part. I verified timing, again and again and again. Set it properly and now she runs great. Also on the throttle body, I had to two wires backwards so that probably did not help either. Once I switched the wires to theyre proper position, adjusted the TB and set the timing properly, and turned the bov tighter, she now runs perfect as can be again. I think it was the combination of the TB and the timing with the bov to loose. Thanks for your help on that Thumper.
  3. It is a Dynomax but not a bullit but a canister type with a larger then 3 inche inner diameter. It is a bit loud but not to loud and very throaty. I used a cone from the waste gate which was 2.25 to 3 inch then 2 90* bends together for the dp. I really cant weld well at all but figured Id give it a try to make it work. It does work though there are a few small leaks that I have to grind and reweld but all in all its pretty decent and I saved a bundle by doing it myself. I wanted to grind down all the welds and make it right but the garage I was using was getting a bit ansy for me to finish so I didnt have the time. I just got myself a Mavica digital camera off ebay, it also takes short movies so when it arrives Ill see if I can make a video so you can hear how the exhaust sounds Bastaad.
  4. I had bought 4 J bends from http://www.performancepeddler.com and I only ended up using three and one straight piece, made all my cuts with a recipricating saw and welded it all together, I also bought a cone and a flange as well for off the waste gate.
  5. Yes I do have the Greddy bov, and it isnt recirculated. One thing I found strange when I added the new turbo was I had to loosen it to the soft side by 3 turns from where it was with the stocker turbo, just to get it to vent. I will check into that and see if tightening it will help out. Thanks. Also to add I did find something else, it also seems that my ignitor is bad or is going bad, there looks to be a burn through the back side of it, but I thought if they were bad that the car wouldnt even start. its like a 1/4 inch burn through that black material on the back of the ignitor.
  6. I have a 82 turbo ZX and I have a problem which is more likely a headache of stock electronics. No matter what I do to adjust and set it properly I am having a problem in boost. When under load unless it is full on throttle, as is I cannot just pedal it to say for example 5 psi, it will flutter, and it sounds like the turbo is winding hard but not putting nothing out. The car will sometimes jerk, not in a violent motion, but subtly up and down like yoru gassing up and down in a rapid motion. It also seems that it just isnt doing what it should with what I have, I would think I would have gotten faster but it seems as if by butt dyno that Im at the same level as I was before. I have a T3/T04E turbo, 3 inch from turbo back exhaust, adjustable fuel pressure regulator set at 37 psi static, any other setting makes it run really bad and unbelievably rich. I am using a Walbro 392 fuel pump, it is relayed and has 10 gauge power and ground wires to it. I have ported the front side of the intake, added a 60mm tb. I just cant seem to make it run right, it does run slightly better as most with the O2 disconnected, but it seems that the adjustment on the tb also seems to determine how it is running in boost as well. I do also have a front mount intercooler installed as well with a Greddy bov. I think I should just talk to Gray Zee and get one of those 300zx kits or maybe mobythevan and use Megasquirt. The headaches are just getting to much to deal with on stock electronics
  7. Now that is the best win ever, the race that never has to take place.
  8. Those are incredibly beautiful and I think that they truely beat out the twice pipes in all aspects. An incredible looking set up to say the least.
  9. ROFFFFFFFFLLLLLLLL HAHAHAHAHAHA That was so incredibly funny
  10. One thing you forgot to mention is the driveshaft upgrade. I blew out my ujoints on my driveshaft, with only app. 275 horses to the wheels. The ujoints in the shaft are extremely small and will snap like a twig pretty easily.
  11. That is so rude to tease us with such a froogle buy, great deal though I must say, well worth the money
  12. But it works now, hehe sounds great!, should have revved it a bit more though I think
  13. Im not sure that it is or isnt, Im going on all that I have found just off the net and you know how that goes. I found a 84 Z31 driveshaft for 42 delivered so Im hoping since they use the same transmission that it will work and Ill have a bit more size on the ujoints as well.
  14. I couldnt agree more, James Thagard is the MAN!!!!! His turbos are all NEW and straight from Garrett. You will be gaurenteed a NEW turbo and wont be wondering if it will hold up or if it will last or this or that. You will get great customer sevice from Mr. Thagard, you WILL get someone who is EXTREMELY knowledgeable about turbos. You will also get piece of mind from doing it right the first time. I also HIGHLY recommend http://www.speedshopthagard.com
  15. You are right, I was sooooooo happy when I picked up what looked to be a very NEW Taurus fan, I adjusted but cutting off pieces of the fan and even lowering the depth of the fan as well and no matter what I did I could not get it to fit. I was close but the fan was also close to the radiator as well lol. With all the trimming I did it was still one inch to wide.
  16. I dont know what to say to that, but one thing is for sure he will need a cage and support from one end of that Z to the other. Unbelievable, especially seeing that it acutally fits!~
  17. Well from comparing notes it seems the transmissions are the same so I will hope that the driveshaft is the same. I didnt know that you could use the GM verison as all the information that I have found says that all other T5's have a 28 spline or in the case of Ford have a 28 or 31 slpine yoke. Figures that Nissan would be the only one to have a 24 based on a 26 spline slip yoke.
  18. Well hey it looks like you have done loads of work and it seems to all be coming along. I must say that you have a larger set then I as I would have been afraid to go out onto the public roads with no hood or fender. Great work and I hope the rest keeps going as smoothly for you with the finishing of your work. Great job and that motor looks really nice sitting in there.
  19. Yeah I saw that but the cost is outrageous. Wish I knew more about the Z31 turbo tranny though, Im thinking it might work and at least it wouldnt cost me a small fortune. OMG!! I just happened to check on that drive shaft for the ZX turbo, 899$
  20. I have an 82 280zx turbo, I was at the track and snapped the tiny little ujoint at the slip yoke for the transmission like a twig. Well I took the shaft to the machinist today to have it redone and they said that they could not upgrade me much more then what the stock ujoint size was due to the size of the slip yolk. This is on a B/W T-5 transmission. Now I currently have a 87 300ZX LSD in the car, and this is where my question comes into play. One of two options. One, knowing that the 84-86 Z31 turbos still use the Borg unit, if the drives shafts are the same length, then could I use that turbo drive shaft in my ZX? If not that, on the second question does the earlier Mustang T-5 equipped cars use the same spline yolk that we do in the S130 and I could use my Z31 shaft that would go into the differential so that I could have a larger drive shaft made with larger ujoints? Thanks in advance for any enlightenment on this
  21. Gorgeous job on the porting and the dime looks GREAT!!! I think that would do a much better job of flowing in that air now. Great work, and once again I love that dime.
  22. Sexiest ZX Ive seen in ages. I would like to know how he did the flares, still looks stock but much more aggressive. Id like to do that to mine! The hood is also tastefully done as well, not gawdy or overly done, seems effective and efficient
  23. To finally get a long and drawn out job done and enjoy the fruits of your labors had to be the best moment of the past times that you have been in your Z. Glad to hear you got it running and had a moment to finally enjoy just letting it loose. Lets see where your at and some pics.
  24. Im with sparks, stay with the mandrel bent piping, with press bends you lose at a minimum of .35 inches up to a maximum of .87 inches.
