Hey guys, I am on my second set of 002's 16x8's (+0 offset) on two different S30's. Both had/have 245/50/16 tires on them and both rubbed in the rear until fender lip rolling and/or 300 in/lbs coilovers were installed.
The other day I noticed that there is a pretty decent thickness to the mounting pad on the wheels. I wondered if anyone would think that I'd have a problem having a buddy (who owns a machine shop) machine 0.5-0.75" off the inside of the wheel mounting surface using a lathe to gain some offset. I have tons of room on the inside between the rim/tire and the rear struts.
Take care guys!!
FYI the Sportmax/XXR 002's are NOT the same as the XXR 513's....
002's: http://www.1010tires.com/wheel.asp?wheelbrand=XXR&wheelmodel=002+-+Silver
513's: http://www.1010tires.com/wheel.asp?wheelbrand=XXR&wheelmodel=513+-+Silver
I also do in-house fabrication, including S30/S130 strut coilover and sectioning. My rates are reasonable due to the fact I don't have the overhead that alot of other shops might have.
PM or email me and we'll go from there.
Take care.
Who's fault is that? I just love it when FWD guys whine about having FWD. No one forced them to race and/or hop-up a FWD car when they should of gone with a RWD/AWD.
Its like the people that move next to a race track or an airport and then complain about the noise.....
If you could take a few pics, that'd be great.
I'll be building it myself, but I want a few ideas before I dive in head first.
Did you notice the car being any stiffer after the install?
Thanks again!!
I have a question... A buddy has a brand new pair of Tokico Illumina's (BZ3015) for the front of a 240z that he got for next to nothing. He was asking me yesterday if I could install them in the rear of his '78 280z. I know I would need to section out about 3" the strut tube for him (no biggie), but would the strut/tube diameter difference (about 1/16" on each side) cause any problems?
Thanks guys!!
The 4.8 shares the same block (and bore) of the 5.3. The 4.8 just uses a shorter stroke crankshaft. I have never personally run one because the 5.3's are more common for the same (or less) money and make more power.
However I have swapped several 5.3 and 6.0 truck engines into other makes/models, including 2 S30's (one being my own).
I was just wondering what trans dude, calm down, nothing hidden between the lines. But since you brought it up, who's debating?
Time to switch to decaf buddy....
I think you may of contacted me a few weeks ago about a set of BBC block hugger headers, was that you?
In any case, looks like you have two nice projects there.
I used a modified factory harness from www.Wait4MePerformance.com. I am not running A/C at the moment, but I was told that the bare wire labeled as "A/C" is suppose to connect to the A/C compressor clutch power source so the PCM knows when the A/C compressor has been engaged.
Hope that helps.
Running it through the PCM/harness will allow the engine to compensate for the load of the A/C compressor during idle (especially with automatic transmissions). If you are running a throttle cable the PCM will adjust the idle via the idle control valve (IAC). If you are running a drive-by-wire (DBW) setup there is no IAC and the PCM will just crack the throttle blade to adjust the idle in the same manner the IAC would.
With an n/a LSx motor, I am sure you'd be fine with long leads since each coil is pushing quite a bit of juice (50k or so).
I've seen guys mount them on the firewall too, not in S30's, but other custom apps....
Something to consider.
