  2. The whole design is different. For some reason the '98-'99's fit a lot tighter to the block. I'll see if I can take some pics of the pair I own.
  3. I too have a B&M Pro-Stick. Had to weld a plate over the stock 4-speed hole, otherwise works great.

  5. What year F-Body manifolds do you have? There is a big difference between the '98-'99 and the '00-'02 pieces.
  6. Is it me or does the rear tire look alittle narrow for the rim width? What size rims and tires are you running btw?
  7. I seriously doubt that had anything to do with it. Although this often a hotly debated issue, especially on LS1Tech, I have yet to hear of a first hand experience where some damage was done to their motor directly (with no other related issues) because of not having the steam tubes hooked up correctly. I have run two GEN III's without the the steam tube hooked up to the radiator for thousands and thousands of miles without any bad results. Just my 2 cents.
  8. You are correct except you left out that is cars/trucks build '66 and later, anything earlier didn't have any requirements if memory serves. I don't think I've ever heard of my friends/family being hassled with it, even in uber liberal California. I get pulled over from time to time and its usually curious police wondering why my Z doesn't sound like a I6. I am polite and usually we end up talking for a few mins about cars and I am on my way. I think you'd have a hard time finding a LEO that is out to prove something to really get nailed for it. But, as Murphy's Law states: "What can go wrong, will go wrong."

  12. Stock LS1's have 10.0:1 CR. I agree about going with a 5.3 for the time being. 5.3's have 9.4:1 compression so they are a little more 'boost friendly' vs a stock LS1. If you wanted to lower the compression even more you could put your stock LS1 heads on the 5.3 and drop the compression even more. Another reason I like 5.3 for boosted apps is because they have the thickest cylinder walls of any production Gen III/IV, minus the LSx block. Plus if you desired, 5.3's can be punched to LS1 bore size so aftermarket pistons are much easier to come by. Either way you go, you have plenty of options.

  14. I'll be honest, I am not familiar with the MegaSquirt stuff. Does it datalog? Can knock sensors can be used to retard the timing if any detonation is detected?

  16. I respectfully disagree. I've shattered more than a few cast piston ring lands because of detonation 'shocking' the pistons to much and causing the ring lands to become one big ring land. No damage to the crown or piston tops just means you weren't running lean (not a good thing with aluminum heads either). In my personal experience, normally when a piston comes apart because of too much power the wrist pins usually eject out of the bottom of the piston. I am not saying you aren't making power or your Z isn't fast, but I've seen more than a few of these stock bottom end LS motor get hammered with upwards of 20 psi and/or 250-300 shots of nitrous and keep on smiling (for a reasonable amount of time anyway). Regardless, sorry for your misfortune and good luck getting another LS motor and getting your Z back on the road/track.
