  1. The original idea, which consisted of two plates lap welded together, didn't turn out so well. I scratched this idea since it would have been hard milling both sides flat. i decided to cut two individual pieces but this time, cut off the overlapping pieces and butt weld them with TIG (pic 3) closeup of the MIG bead. there are 2 layers. this was actually my 2nd time doing MIG and I couldnt keep a straight line because it was too dark lol the new pieces tacked together with MIG. I'll be learning TIG this week and these pieces should be done soon! will post pics later with the seat mounted. i plan on cutting the words "RECARO" into the driver side bracket too (think weight reduction haha)
  2. wow man you are really talented! personally, i would do away with those tiny scoops at the front of the hood. i think the rest looks amazing
  3. the voltage meter on mine reads at a 16+ when the motor is running. the other day i tried to crank the car and eventually wouldnt turn over anymore. i removed the spark plugs and the car turned over again (then the battery lost juice again). did the battery regain some power as it sat for a few minutes or is the battery really my problem or is there something else i should be concerned with? should i look into a gear reduction starter to improve start up? i've got a rebuilt alternator waiting to go in regardless, but i want to take care of the problem all together if possible
  4. ok, i've just recently been having problems starting the car with my PC680. i suspect the alternator may be bad (will switch out tuesday). anything else i should look out for? i'm installing a battery cut off in case there is somehow an amperage draw somewhere in the system.
  5. anyone heard of these? I just ordered a complete gasket set for a motor rebuild and it was kind of an emergency so I'm crossing my fingers that these are good. the feedback seems ok... http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&rd=1,1&item=8053897890&sspagename=STRK%3AMEWA%3AIT
  6. i have the cherokee industries chin strap helmet and i kinda like it. it sounds weird but it works really well. basically, you adjust the strap so that when you open your mouth a smidgen, the lens pops up. then you close your mouth and the lens closes. lol. this also allows you to keep both your hands on your work. however, i think if i could do it over again, i would do the auto darkening helmet, but they are a bit pricier for a good one.
  7. the car will eventually be a weekend and/or track car only. i've had the battery for just 3 months and have had no problems at all so far. my friend has one in his NSX, which is his daily, and has been using it for many years with no problems either.
  8. i've heard those are good, but why not get an Odyssey PC680 for less? thats what i run and its a damn good battery.
  9. this is for an e39 M5 but... http://www.bmwdiy.info/fender-rolling/index.html
  10. thanks for the comments! the airdam is from the ebay guy Fastzt or something, i believe he is also a member here. the fit is just "OK", but the title stated 240 and 260 and i have a 280 so i can't complain. regardless, it wasn't too difficult to get it to fit. i had to weld a bracket to support the middle from sagging and straining the bolts on the sides. i'll be fitting a lexan hatch window shortly and welding in a harness bar and doing a custom bracket for my seat as well. things are *FINALLY* coming along! as far as the color, its a PPG honda grey with a lot of pearl mixed in. in the sun it looks stunning! my motor plans are F54 block, E88 head, triple mikunis, port and polish, and mild cam. thats it. next to be done is definately the brakes and suspension though...
  11. its finally getting there... lots more to do though!
  12. i was actually surprised, but it wasn't as loud as i expected it to be. i might just be going deaf though lol. it definately sounds good to me. i left a section of pipe right before the diff and it is dumped right there. would that be long enough? i'll eventually run a new pipe from the header to the back when time allows.
  13. would there be any? would the decrease in back pressure cause damage to the engine or any other parts? just curious since this is how my car is currently setup.
  14. hey mark, thanks for the info. i have all day tomorrow to play with it. i was hoping to avoid having to remove the intake manifold lol. i guess it will take longer than expected. i'm going to Howard in the fall are you practicing now? how do you like it?
  15. so i removed the heat shield and all the bolts on the top flange and all the nuts on the bottom flange of the header. i removed the muffler and piping which left just the header. i tried to shake it loose and managed to wiggle it only a few millimeters, but nothing more. there is almost NO clearance to the side. can someone verify how many nuts and bolts i need to remove to take this header off? will i need a new gasket? i currently have SU's hooked up, will I need to remove them first? i'm trying to avoid that if possible. i'm also planning on removing the AC compressor too. sorry for all the questions! thanks for any help
  16. woops! i meant air dam! lol my apologies. i need to get the bumper, but for now i just have the air dam. i ended up cutting the horn brackets off to allow the bumper to slide in. i read your post cygnus thanks, i'll be using that write up shortly
  17. i have a 240z bumper from Fastzt but I don't have the brackets to mount them on my 280z. any idea where i can find these?
  18. wow that looks exactly like my car lol! i'll post pics soon
  19. http://www.planetblueoval.com/ford/ford_500_gtr_000624.asp#more students from a community college made this beast with the help of Ford technicians! must be nice
  20. its a labor of love! haha, thanks for the site. thats awesome stuff
  21. i'm also taking a class but no matter what you sign up for (i signed up for MIG) they start you on stick here. its harder for sure but its good to know. the way i see it, if you can do stick well, you can do any of it well! MIG was cake compared to this... they have some sweet millermatics, i wish i could get my hands on one!
