  1. I'll move on to the next thread after hearing that one... That's why he's called Silicone Boy! So what turbos and exhaust manifolds did you use? I think it was you who was investigating the upside down Corvette headers? And what's the intercooler from? Nice job, post some video and sound clips when you can! Owen
  2. I can't wait to see this, I need a good laugh! At the top of the page, this chick looks like one of my friends! Owen
  3. If you're considering VCD, then quality really isn't an issue, since the quality sucks hardcore! (I'm a JAV VCD trader ) ANYWAY, if you're going VCD only, don't even worry about a miniDV, just get a cheap capture card, internal or external, like Pinnacle Systems Studio 9, and an analog camera and be done with it. Best thing about VCD is compatability. If you go DVD, you have to decide on + or - and you can't guarantee they will play. The copies I've made don't play on PS2s and X-boxes, and some high end players, but they will play on the cheaper $50 players...to answer the question above, to make VCD, all you need is a CD-RW drive. Chapters and title menus can be done pretty easily on VCDs too. As well as subtitles? For mass production, a dedicated disk duplicating system can be made somewhat cheaply using IDE drives and firewire bridgeboards with Oxford chipsets.
  4. I just used rope on the outside of the booth (made holes in the tarp) and pulled the sagging PVC up tight against a beam in the garage. It was almost a shame to take the booth down, kept everything else so nice and clean! Maybe I should get one of those car storage bubbles . Owen
  5. That's cuz your exhaust is too quiet! I made one up like Tim's but not using round tubing. I used sheet metal and bent up a cube and bought weld in threaded fittings from McMaster. Total cost without the mini pump was about $12.00. Almost El Cheapo! Owen
  6. I used PVC also, just bought the tubing and T-s and 90 deg bends and fitted it all together. Didn't want to deal with nails and wood. I used blue tarp from Harbor Freight and pretty much had the same setup as Terry. My garage is attached also and I didn't have any problems with the smell. Here's a pic of the booth squeezed into the garage. Do a search in the archives here, a lot of people have done home booths. http://www.autobodystore.com/cgi-bin/config.pl?index Cover the entire booth including the floors, you'll be glad you did. Owen
  7. I don't think you'd see a difference in the coolant temps, unless your temp gauge was sensititve enough. But I'm positive that just having the vents aids in moving air through your radiator and IC more efficiently, rather than letting the hot air stack up in your engine bay. Owen
  8. OK, I found this site. http://not2fast.wryday.com/turbo/maps/all.html Owen
  9. Yeah, I've heard that too, but haven't been able to find various OEM maps. Gotta do better searches I guess... I checked out Garrett's site and Turbonetic's site but couldn't find the maps I wanted. Thanks, Owen
  10. http://turbocalculator.com/index.html It's $15 and am wondering if it's even worth it. Owen
  11. If the problem existed before the FMIC was installed, then like John said, stick to the basics. If that doesn't then get a aluminum rad, electrical fan, etc. Course you can just start over and V-mount the IC and RAD.... A vented hood like mine also helps get rid of the air built up in the engine bay. Owen
  12. Hey Douglass, I was wondering if you could elaborate more on your comments? -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Owen, Strictly speeking the diffuser should work on a totally sealed under pan so that no air can get above it.... -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- This is what I was thinking too, hence all my questions, but I think it was John who said that the air above the diffuser (in between the gas tank, etc. and the diffuser) was necessary to create downforce. I'm no engineer, but wouldn't downforce at the rear be created by upper airflow (above car, over rear spoiler) and lower airflow (below pan and diffuser)? And not or less by "middle airflow" (air right above the diffuser) and lower airflow? ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- If you dont have end plate the the low pressure developed by the upturn will suck in air from the sides making the diffuser redundant. I have used a similar aproach on my Z ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- What end plates are you referring to? The vertical fins of the diffuser? thanks, Owen
  13. The Nova will definitely get the WTF is ThAT?! reaction..."most beautiful component car in the world"...Get an Ultima GTR. Owen
  14. You sure fooled me! Thanks for posting pix of the process! Owen
  15. If you plan on racing, check to see if they allow doors without handles, otherwise you'll have to use a window net, etc. Owen
  16. We had a big move and lots of stuff got lost or deleted, most old pix won't show up anymore. You'll have to ask the original poster. Owen PS - Good to see people going back to old posts rather than starting new ones. I noticed you did this in a couple of other posts. Thanks!
  17. Never done the front but the I've done the rear 4 or 5 times, experimenting with plexiglass, didn't like it... If you're replacing the seals with new ones, just take a razor blade and cut the old ones out. One cut perpendicular to the seal, one cut under the seal (with the blade laying flat with the body), and one with the blade laying flat against the glass is all it takes. Step 3 may not be needed. For the rear glass install, I used some ice-pick looking things I bought at Harbor Freight , I can't describe them you'll have to see for yourself. I also used a flat head screwdriver and carefully went all the way around. Owen
  18. Cool, thanks! I use http://www.sigalert.com/map.asp?Region=Greater+Los+Angeles but using both should be awesome. Owen
  19. That's damn good for the HH175! I have the HH135, couldn't afford the HH175 as it was at least $800 at the time. Don't get a Craftsman, it will blow up and then take 2 months to get it fixed, only to blow up the same nite you take it home! So what's this about migging stainless, is it one of those like migging aluminum where people tell you "it can't be done with your small machine", but in reality it can? I've found that by turning up the gas pressure on my small machine, I can get some pretty damn good beads on 0.25" aluminum. One day I'll get a TIG for better workmanship though. Owen
  20. Maybe they're frame captures from a video? But then you'd think they would post more pictures, frame by frame... Owen
  21. OK, how about different levels of entitlement. As Mike said a long while ago, "this is not a democracy". Certain members will have more privleges, decide who stays or goes, etc etc. Hell, I may even get kicked off this site one day, but I'm not gonna die from it! So, top level members have the most control. Next level down, act as moderators. Next next level down are regulars who are allowed to post. (maybe set a post limit per day?) Lowest level can only read and search. We can have a message for the lowest two levels saying "you've reached your post limit or you do not have posting privleges yet. If you really need help, contact a moderator to get your question posted to the site" I know this will probably take more software programming, etc. so remember it's only a suggestion. It's archaic and it's draconian, but we need to cleanse the site right? How the heck do you spell privleges?? Owen
  22. Did you notice that hybridz.org was listed in the links column? Or is it just me? No wonder we have so much crap here! Owen
  23. Mike, I totally agree with you, but I'm sorry to say that your warning will only be effective for a little while and then fade away. THEN you'll have to do it all over again! Yes, I'm guilty of bad mouthing others on this site, namely ZCCA. We all do it one time or another. We also had the issue of inappropriate language and content too. "Kids today are pussies" for example is a new topic. FAQs are good, stickies are good, the search function...well it hasn't always worked for me either. A lot of the stuff has just disappeared. But I'm sick of seeing "what engine will fit", "how do I mount my gauges", "what wheels will fit", etc. I think it's time to re-visit a topic we had way back when HZ was only like 40 members strong. Membership fees. Yes, I believe it has come to that...pay up or get deleted into cyberspace. Owen
  24. OK, I understand now. So what about those diffusers that are built into the bumpers like on the rice cars, just extra weight? here's one from an RX7 that would look functional This one is molded to the shape of the rear of the car, don't see any exists for air at the top tho... But I don't know about this one.... or this Owen
