  1. Yesterday I popped off the valve covers on the 78' and noticed one of the gaps between the to lobes on the cam was RED. I asked a guy at work about this, and he said GM uses colors on the cam to tell what kind of cam it is, he said that RED is an upgraded one. Does Nissan do the same thing? The reason I ask is on the old Z i don't remember seeing any color on the cam at all.
  2. about the recharge stuff, theres a kit you can buy at advanced auto parts for like 40 dollars, and it comes with a CD and instruction manual, its the ABSOLUTE easiest thing you can buy to recharge it, it will convert it to R-134a and it blows FREEZING cold.
  3. mayb thats what im thinkin about, the VG30DE
  4. I heard those motors don't like to go much over 100K, but I have no experiance with them. I know one thing, when you look under the hood of a Z32, there is NO room anywere, idk if this is the same with the Z31. Everything needs to be done by a mechanic, becuz its a PITA to do anything
  5. well, every other manual I have ever driven had a nuetral safety swich. I did not see this when i looked for it the other day. This is a 78' 280z
  6. Are the manual Z's supposed to start without the clutch pedal pressed in? This happens in all gears, it will start in gear if I want it to.
  7. i'll probly post pics tommorrow but I have a site where you can see them before I bought it http://www.twowizards.com/280 Hey matt, when you said it started, how did you get it started, i got the electrical all straightened out, and it cranks awesome, but it won't fire. What did you say the problem was? Are the manual Z's supposed to start without pressing in the clutch pedal?
  8. the smaller guy did alot of the paint and body work on the past trucks, like copperhead and big blaze. Stacey was awesome, but I guess they thought he wasn't COOL enough. None the less, the truck they built was quite badass. Did someone say he was gonna go onto another show? Whats wrong with overhaulin? It seems just as it used to be.
  9. I got under it this morning and took a good look at it, it will need a bit of work, but im pretty decent at welding, just don't have a welder. I may bring it to my old school one of these days and take a closer look. The thing that I don't need right now is the down time, so im just gonna sit on it for a few weeks till i bring in a bit of bank.
  10. Well, the Z is in the driveway now, thanks to Sparks280zt for the shipping. There is one problem so far that I see, the previous owner snagged the battery after him and matt put the car on the dolly(cheap-***.) I believe I will go pick up a battery tommorrow or tnite if I get a chance. BTW its a 78' 280z, I think its beutiful, it will deffinitly need some work, but mostly paint and body, but nothing major. Its got american racing wheel look-alikes, and the rear window louvers. Another thing that matt pointed out to me when he shipped it, is that the guy obviously never drove it, seeing as how he said it was a five-speed, and the only way it makes five-speed is if you count the reverse gear. But all in all, i am VERY happy with the car. I will post some pics later on if I can get the camera out. THANKS again Matt, you were a HUGE help.
  11. I was gonna use the same head and all, I wasn't doing this for the power, i was doing it for the look of siderafts on an sbc. You need a custom cam that changes all the intake lobes to exhaust and vice versa.
  12. hey mike, are you gonna take your Z against this guy now or what, take on his aztec and whoop its ***.
  13. damn, i had that idea a few months back. I thought is was gonna be unique, but i guess someone beat me to it.
  14. it depends on the location, Z prices are going through the roof in the Richmond, va area. I had to buy on in NC in good condition for a decent price. The Zs here are expensive, and alot of them are crap too.
  15. this ZX was posted in the F/s forums, and he bragged to say it was the best Z on the site.
  16. I can admit that I love watching these movies, it did kind of blow up the whole ricer thing, but owell, something would have done it eventually. I like them, kind of gives me some cool "If I had money" ideas.
  17. WOW!!! Is there a write-up on this car, like whats been done to it? I know its got a turbo, possibly 2?
  18. Do you mean production? Because Troy Trepaine (sp?) has his Chicayne which is a 1200hp steet legal Chevy Biscayne
  19. Its gonna need a U-joint at some point, and its running rough. If I could get the time and a ride to go get it, I would, but time is an issue. 6 Hrs away.
  20. do you know of any good shippers that are cheaper then DAS? They want something like 800-900 to get it from terminal to terminal, not even door to door. Thats almost as much as I spent on the car. I spent just about everything I had for a car, on that car. So I gotta find a cheaper way of shipping. But the guy is being VERY leniant on the amount of time its there.
  21. not bothering me, my car is gonna be a daily driver. So I have to get it registered and inspected anyways.
  22. We agreed half now, and half when it gets picked up. I sent the deposit via paypal, and have to send a casiers check with the remaining half of the purchase. He said to get the money out of his paypal account has some outragious fees that he would rather not pay. So its a check. He is located in Fairview, right outside asheville. If you can help it will be much appreciated, and if possible could you tell me what it would cost you to bring it with you.
  23. That would be extremely helpful, I looked it up on yahoo, its about 1 hour and 45 minuts away from you though. I'd deffinitly send some money your way if you would be willing to do something like that.
  24. I was told about the steering wheel, I paid 1300 for it, which is less then what I would buy a 280zx in worse condition here. In my area the price of Z's has gone up to around 3000 and up for a DECENT one. Anybody know of any shipping companies that does buissness in NC and VA. Or would anybody like to tow it on a dolly for a fee? Ps. It does run and drive, but will need a new U-joint soon. And possibly new injectors, but I believe I have some remanufacured ones lying around here somewhere.
  25. hmmmm, well, I guess that cop was trying to get people to do it so they could right more tickets, lol. o well.
