  1. I'm going to go against the grain here. A spin on filter has an internal bypass system that allows oil to go through the filter unfiltered, just check the cut apart ones at the local parts stores, they either have a real spring or a pseudo spring that allows the filter to move to the bottom of the filter can. A cartridge filter does not have this feature. A cartridge filter is far superior to a spin on filter IMHO. So, while being a PITA is is a better oil filtration system which spawned the Oberg system, Canton and others that are race bred.
  2. There is a reason there is a limited number of airplane engines. Actually several reasons. 1. reliability, 2. High HP to weight, 3. Reliability
  3. Mike, there's nothing better than driving a hotrod that happens to be a 'vette, unless you have ms. daisy with super sweater muffins, drop dead gorgeous, sitting next to you in such 'vette. I hate you for having a hotrod vette, only cause I don't have one too, but I like to hear your stories. Thanks. If you ever have ms. daisy described above, then I'm going to die and be reincarnated as you.
  4. I think that's nice. I've seen alot of tatoos that look so amateur that I think the people that had them were embarassed, I know I'd be. Yours, I'm assuming is real nice.
  5. The BS meter is pegged out. I'd stay away from that crap!
  6. That's what I look like in the AM..... I saw a biker the other day that was covered in tatoos from head to toe, almost every square inch of his body, they were all works of art, perfect in every detail. I asked him about when and where he got them, and he said he was a tatooist and did most of them himself. He had one of his mom and dad on his sides that was unbelievably perfect, just like a picture. I'm just curious, as the stages of your life go by and you get to be say 70, what's that one going to look like? I've got an image of member slowandrusty and trying to figure out what art would go with that, cause I might get one about then so I'll have a story to tell.
  7. you have to remove the stock BPV or it won't work right.
  8. alot of people don't even know how to phase a rotor in the first place. It can be a huge difference in performance. It's all part of tuning an engine and the difference between winners and losers. Some MSD distributors have adjustable phasing, most distributors regardless of manufacture don't. Just because it isn't adjustable, doesn't mean it's correct from the manufacturer. People must check it if your going to properly tune your motor. Drill a hole between the #1 terminal in the cap and the center coil terminal, attach a timing light as usual to time the engine and shine it through the hole, you should be albe to see the brass contact of the rotor exactly in line with the contact through the whole advance curve, if not your going to get misfires whether you can hear it, detect it or not, it's a fact, and you'll realize a performance gain if it was off and a smoother running engine.
  9. Well, I'm learning the "new" school. Rice and it's different forms 101, 3 credit hours. I was looking for some info on Google the other day on transbrakes, came across several dragstrip rules new for '05 and '06 and apparently the new trend at some tracks is for ricer's going faster than 11.99 that an engine diaper is required. LMAO!!!
  10. That tag art is really something. And the car is really something too!
  11. aux, tell us she isn't listed on a singles dating site and that's how you stumbled on that gross compilation of complete weirdness!
  12. Yup, the allison v-12 is simply an awesome engine, I bet parts are becoming hard to find, but with the bucks they spend I'm wondering why the aftermarket industry isn't making engine parts for them.
  13. Let him follow his dream, it's his dream and he can run it any way he wants. Has anyone ever heard of the SESCO 4 cylinder. Do a google search on that. It was the brainchild of Canaday out of KC, MO in the 80's I belive. My cousin drives house sprint cars for them. The SESCO is a v8 chevy with 1 bank chopped off, using only one side with standard sbc head on the other in a vertical position. Great circle track engine! They also used V4 Johnson outboard engines laying flat, talk about hybrid! We're never going to have something better until somebody thinks it up and tries it. Personally, I thought of doing a v8 chevy as a 2 stroke with a blower in place of the intake manifold, using sleves and ports like a detroit for intake and using 2 exhaust valves instead of one intake and one exhaust, with each exhaust valve alternating opening so the cam gears could stay the same as stock GM. The cam lobes would have to change and the exhaust ports would have to be like a detroit with common ports as well. It wouldn't need oil and gas mixed and could you imagine what kind of power that'd put out?! At 6K it would sound like a v8 at 12K and put out similar HP to what a 4 stroke would put out at 12K, Witchin' Blown 2 stroke.
  14. Braap, are you selling those heads or not? Just wondering. And the slowest z is the one with pedal power in it, I swear.
  15. I thought Datsun/Nissan was rice? Well a hybrid datsun beats the pants off of regular rice, so I guess it's premium rice.
  16. Fine aluminum and moly if you used moly rings. Aluminum is from the pistons scuffing on the fresh honed cylinders, wipes the pistons just like it does the rings. Really shouldn't see much other than that, if you do, then you'd better pull the pan and have a look see. When you cut the filter open spread the filter material out flat and look in the creases, that's where most of the particles get trapped.
  17. HAHA I bet he works for the post office!
  18. There's a gun builder in Socorro, name is Frank Combs, 505.835.4440, builds all my guns. He's a specialist in anything custom. He could fix your .45 in about 30 minutes, even if it needed a new barrel. My 1911 .45 SS enhanced colt will feed empty cases and anything else you load thanks to Frank. Going Elk hunting this AM See ya
  19. Well, that's no biggie if your working with a chevrolet of some sorts. I'm sure that someone on the East coast could ship you a flexplate that would solve your problems. Have you looked on EBAY. Modding the manual flywheel to accept a T/C bolt seems excessive, considering there are made items on the market. Need a little more detail on engine. The TH 325 is a little dated but will work fine.
  20. My thought is that you won't have brake fade as rapidly with bigger brakes. That assumes that the stock brakes are not oversized for the vehicle weight and won't lock the tires up at any speed. Then you'll have a chance at proving that, otherwise, your up the creek without a paddle.
  21. Not sure what your trying to make an adaptor plate for and why you would need that measurement?
  22. Evil C, at least you didn't search using "breaking" as your key word. I tried using fule, trubo and other words spelled incorrectly and got no results go figure. The key to stopping is; 1. whether you the tire is still rolling or not. and 2. Whether or not the tire is at the point of incipient slip, which goes to rubber compound and the coefficients of static friction and dynamic friction. Then of course you have to factor in what happens if one of your tires locks and the rest do not, ie. whether the car is moving in a straight line or not, uphill, downhill, level or whatnot. I think it's too many variables to calculate, but bigger brakes can't be a drawback.
  23. z tard, if the feed ramp is properly modified, it should feed empty cases with no problem one clip full after another. If it feeds empty cases, then it'll feed anything you put in it.
  24. ****, Jap tin I'd like to have the one your about to throw away. Well, all motor has always appealed to me, I don't like bottle babies!!! Forced induction is nice, but the challenge is to build all motor, any takers? Besides, if scottie added 2 more cylinders, he'd be barking 8's all day. I haven't heard anyone talk sb2.2, but it's my guess that it'll be the next "new" hybridz engine. Parts are becoming available to the general public and your looking at some serious HP, say 750-800 on gas, 850-900 on alky. Can you say 441 cubic inches of set your butt in the seat. I'm going to go to try to get to phoenix or Ennis and see if I can lay down a mid to high 9 on motor. The 406 isn't all that much, 262/270 dur with .645 lift, 1.5 rockers, AFR 220 heads, Victor E, Lunati pistons, Eagle 6 inch rods, Eagle 3.75 stroke crank, dart block. With more cam, better headers, more carb, maybe bigger heads, I think it might do a high 8, but nowhere near your mondo numbers. Car weighs too much, 2750, I think I remember yours being around 2300
