  1. I left him messages last year myself, haven't heard a word, so I went another direction.
  2. I vote you go with BRAAP! He's close by, actually knows what a z motor is, and will do it right the first time! Just my $.02
  3. Well, some religious books are printed and they are well, in their own world, so why do you think the van book is right? Trust us, there is no oil slinger on the v8 350. JnJ is right, the pan set from felpro has both seals. Buy it and you'll be happy!
  4. Since there is no front main bearing seal, I'm assuming you mean the front timing cover to pan seal. Note that there are two different thicknesses of rubber seals that can go in there. A thick one and a thinner one. You probably have the thin one in there and need the thick one. That is assuming you have the two piece rear main early style block.
  5. Well, hard to say since you'll be the first, let us know how it goes. We'll be interested to see it as it progresses. Make sure you take lots of pictures!
  6. It's not that sturdy of a motor IMHO, since it uses stock rods. But it's his money. The blower setup is about 4000 so for 6K, I would have expected alittle more than stock pieces. But then again, it's his money. I think he could have went BBC with the same blower for that matter. But since it will smoke the tires anyway, who cares!
  7. Cozy, get your mojo over there and get to work!
  8. I think I have a couple laying around, let me see what I have. If I have a good one, your welcome to have it.
  9. Nope, we don't have water here either. Not a big deal, you get used to pissing in the yard. Saves water and waters the lawn at the same time.
  10. And to think your dad never thought you'd live this long! Happy B-day!
  11. I used the search function and found a few pertinent threads that have it all covered I think. Check out this; http://forums.hybridz.org/showthread.php?t=93098 or this; http://forums.hybridz.org/showthread.php?t=123505 or even this which is probably the best information; http://forums.hybridz.org/showthread.php?t=101659
  12. Killer 9 inch for $6000??? I bought a narrowed 9 inch with axles for $450, added a lightened NASCAR detroit locker off ebay for $300, some 4.56 gears off ebay for $100 and I'm in business. I paid $2300 for my Moser 9 inch complete with willwood street disc brakes, delivered!!!
  13. Well, $7000 for motor $2000 for PG trans and converter $400 for 9 inch ford narrowed $5000 for paint $1000 for gauges, belts, roll bar, fuel cell, fuel system, etc. And it needs sooooo much more.
  14. I simply fail to see what is apparently a rod knock or piston noise translate to the block being bad. Undoubtedly the dart block is a solid foundation from which to build and getting more cubes is definately a plus, but if your going stroker with a dart block, get all the cubes you possibly can, since they are about the same price. Just my opinion.
  15. Well, we run a 9 inch so I'm going to tell you it's the smart way to go in terms of safety.
  16. wonder what the folks you passed were thinking?
  17. TKO transmissions is about all your going to find unless you want to go lenco.
  18. The z would be a better track car IMHO. If your bucket has too much rust, then find another bucket. BTW, z's on this site handle alot of HP and I myself have not experience any chassis twist or flex nor have I seen any with a properly prepped car.
  19. I think your numbers are alittle low, but they are your numbers. Typically I spend around 7K on engine parts and machinework alone. Hope you reach your target. And no this isn't sticky material for newbies.
  20. I usually don't name my vehicles, but a few have achieved a name one way or the other. I did a search and didn't find any threads pertaining to "how did you name your car?" so I thought I'd find out. That and I'll share with you what's transpired lately. While working on the '84 Peterbilt, doing and out of frame rebuild in the frame, (don't ask, but it happened), we discovered a stripped head bolt in the block. Of course it had to be the very back one next to the firewall. Probably been like that for awhile. Now cummins NTC engines use an 11/16" diameter fine thread (18 pitch) head bolt that torques to 310 lb-ft, so the thread engagement is over one inch. The blind hole is some 2 inches deep. So, we decided to try helicoil but couldn't get one, then timesert, same thing. So (bingo, light comes on), since installing either would require drilling to a larger size then installing a thread repair, why not just drill and tap to 3/4". So, a trip to a junk 3406E cat motor laying in the back 40 with a rod through the block, and removing a head bolt that is 3/4" x 18 pitch and alittle longer, off we go. We drilled it, tapped it straight, drilled the head and installed the "CAT" head bolt. Since we ruined a head gasket, a new one was acquired and low and behold it was "hecho en Mexico" so the truck now has the name "El Gato" or "The Cat". The z doesn't have a name yet and I call the Monte, just "The Monte". I had an old blue and white chevy that we called "old blue", and another green chevy 4 door that was the "Green Bomb". So, how did your vehicle get it's name?
  21. So, what's the outside to outside measurement on that exhaust? Doesn't look like that is going to fit IMO.
  22. Jon, it's called a drop out switch. Kind of like a magnetic starter with a 110v coil. Disconnects the line from the house when the power goes out so you can use a generator. There are several home generator systems currently on the market that do just that automatically when the power goes out for more than 15 to 30 seconds. I have one, it's propane fired, 8000 watts, cost about $5K installed.
