  1. Made a grill out of a generic Grill and some door edge molding for a truck. The cold air intake is not bolted in yet, waiting for the JTR brass tee to arrive then I will tighten everything up.
  2. tfreer85 (Tyson), My thought on reversing the intake was why ???? However, i was looking at Renegade Hybrids (Swapping V8, and Sub WRXs' into Porsches)and they have a Porsche 911 with a LS1 motor and the intake is reversed. Check out renegadehybrids.com very interesting stuff ; I am thinking an LS1 in Porsche 914 for sh$ts and giggles as my next project !!!!!
  3. Before I started my swap two reasons LS vs LQ; 1.Sadly, more folks are crashing F-body Trans-Am and Camaros than GM Trucks or SUV so the used drivetrains are more available 2. The experts can correct me -but the oil pan is different than the F-bodies. Having said that, the Corvette and GTO oil pans are different as well, but if you locate a drivetrain for a good deal it is worth changing the oil-pick tube, and pan to a F-body pan. There are some guys making custom mounts, but if you are not making custom mounts, the F-body oil-pan works well with the Johns Cars LS kit. I lucked out on a 2002 Trans-Am WS6 LS1/4L60E, but if I were to start over - I would look for a GTO drivetrain (drive by wire and pedals)change the oil-pan and whatever else that is needed. Just my 2 cents.
  4. Clive, Put your project under wraps for awhile !!! But, don't sell it if you do not need to. It is a good thing you are getting your education and career goals in order. I am probably twice your age (43 to be exact) and I could pay a shop to work on the car. But even with family, work, and softball every Saturday morning I head over to my Dad's house to work on the Z with my father, and he is 73 years old. I get a kick out of his joy, and we are already thinking about the next project !!!!!So, put it away for awhile and come back to it when you have more money and time, it will be the best stress relief for work !!!! Good Luck

  8. Clive, I know the feeling "boxes of parts" that need to be installed !!!David (1tuffZ) gave you some great advice, and I will take it as well. The Z is looking good and coming along, before you know it you will be firing it up !!!!!
  9. I totally agree !!!Amazing tribute to your son !!! I have a rear set of fiberglass Porsche 930 Turbo Flares I want to put on my Z. I may have to shipped my car to Arizona for the paint and body work !!! I will contact you guys when I get to that point.
  10. Like everyone has stated, once you pull the L28/tranny you will know what you have. At the very least, you need to find out what stock crossmember you have, so you can install the LS1/Tranny and have it in place; this is when John will need the flange information for making your driveshaft.
  11. Davy, It was great to meet you and hang out with the Georgia Z Hybriders. Charlie, big thanks for the stick shift information.
  12. Those look like the adapters made by Skulte. Centerline is making 10 inch wheels for Datsun Z, good information to know.
  13. If you have pulled the L28 engine/tranny, have someone take pictures of the flange. If you are not the original owner of your Z, you may want to verify what differential you have.
  14. Aziza, JCI has two crossmember one for 240 z and the other for 280 Z. John needs know what flange size, bolt size and pilot size and distance from your LS1 tranny to your flange to make your driveshaft. Jags that run has pictures of the differential in the flange link on there website. If you have a 1975 280 Z, you may have the 10 mm bolt size PLease Please confirm !!!! Your trans tunnel should have two ears like my 280. Search for a thread by Evil C, he posted a picture of the Datsun 280 Z tranny crossmember. This is the information I sent JCI; My pilot diameter is 2 1/4 inches The bolt circle is diameter is 2 3/4 inches. The bolt holes are 8 mm. My driveshaft measurement is 24 1/2 inches. Jags that run has pictures of the differential in the flange link on there website. If you have a 1975 280 Z, you may have the 10 mm bolt size PLease Please confirm !!!! Your trans tunnel should have two ears like my 280. I just received my drive shaft and it fits fine, my only concern is aprox 3/4 to 1 inch of yoke is visible, which my hot-rod buddies say that is o.k.
  15. 1977 280 Z trans tunnel. Those ears have to be shaved for some tranys to fit. Also, Johns Car need know if you 280 or 240 Z to provide the correct crossmember.
  16. 1977 280 Z differential Flange 8 mm bolts
  17. The deals are out there you just have to be patient. On the other hand there are the jewels in barns just waiting to be found. I know were a Nova SS is sitting under tree, grass waist high all around and it is not clone !!!!It has been in the same place across from my bank for at least 12 years. I would love to get it, but Two40MuscleZ is so correct, those are good ballpark figures.
  18. http://www.skulte.com Custom 4-5 lug adapters. The only wide wheels you are going to find for less than a $1000.00 will be a great deal !!! or 5 lug Mustang wheels on Ebay, http://www.wheelreplicas.com, http://www.mustangtuning.com. Other options are to re-drill drums to 5-lug or convert to 5-lug Arizona Z car brakes.
  19. Anything is possible, but it is not alot space between the firewall and intake with the intake in the normal position maybe 3.5 -5 inches max. My fuel lines are just below the hood latch and it is just enough room to fit your hands behind the intake with a little wiggle room..
