  1. It takes a lot of $$$ to fill up my Suburban. Ouch. 44 gals at $2.30+ for regular unleaded; makes me sick. I wish I were in Texas already. The day will come, though, I have been planning the move for some time now... Davy
  2. Love that hood---menacing looking. Paint is the right color too Davy
  3. I think a twin setup looks great, but you have to at least consider the possibility of a one big turbo for simplicity. A V8 should have plenty of torque, even at 8.5:1 compression ratio...add a big turbo for lots of horsepower fun!! I have a cast iron turbo exhaust manifold from at least a few years back--I may use it despite it not being nearly as efficient as reverse-style headers. For ease of use and no fabbing required it wins hands down. The only dilemma I face is having the GN turbo I have with the three bolt flange (the manifold is a typical four bolt). Perhaps I can fab an adapter... Davy
  4. Moby, he's asking for ZX mounts, not the Z mounts. Do a search on the site and you should find the info you are looking for. Also, you can email the guys with the V8 ZX's. Ross Corrigan at http://www.modern-motorsports.com/catalog/default.php had a nice V8ZX and he could let you know what you need. Davy
  5. Yes, there are at the very least stories of guys drifting their V8Zs in competition. The car is naturally suited to wheelspin and good handling. The V8Z is docile and controlable, so there is nothing to really worry about. There must be some misconception out there that a Chevy V8 is somehow fragile (I'm getting this idea from the question you asked--innocent enough, but not founded). These motors can be flogged all day long and a Vette or Camaro V8 engine is sound enough to take most anything and drifting is just another sport to rev the motor. Every day I visit the drag strip, there is always someone on the strip with a Vette or Camaro, so I'm pretty sure you'll be just fine. And, with the motor being a Chevy, it'll be fairly straight forward to fix in case something goes wrong. Davy
  6. Try right clicking on the pic, highlight and cut the location (url), paste on the body of the post, then highlight the url and click on "image". It will automatically put the in the correct places. Someone correct me if I'm wrong, but that's how to do it. Then go back and delete your other posts you don't want. Davy
  7. Yep, it must be the black wheel thing that makes the car. I'm glad you're leaning on another color...silver is mine! It will look good no matter what. I have even contemplated a black and orange paint scheme: black on top and orange sides or the reverse--that would look pretty sick. It is a popular scheme in the truck scene at the moment and would look good on a car, especially with black wheels. Davy
  8. Welcome back Myron! Good to see you back. Hopefully we'll see more of you and your Z online! Davy
  9. It will look sick when it's out on the road---nasty!! Keep up the good work--the black and silver looks menacing!! Davy
  10. Color looks great! Wet sand it if you can, but make sure you know what you are doing beforehand!!!!!!! Davy
  11. I'm not sure the insurance company will be on your side, but you can argue with them to "fix it." That's the only way. It is a classic car and if they have the "before" pictures, you might be sunk. I hope you can get your money to fix it if they are rare in your part of the country. If the car was a good builder, I'd say fight to have t fixed. If it was a rust bucket, I'd say take their money and look for another one. Just my $.02 Davy
  12. Mike, this is the Chevy forum so I think that actually counts Davy
  13. A lot of good cars get crushed unfortunately. Car Craft has saved at least one Camaro from the crusher. I hate to see 'classic' cars get crushed. My neighbor did that to his '76 Datsun pickup, just becuase it had a "hard time" passing smog. Actually there was nothing wrong with it and he knew it would not get him a good trade in value for his new Toyota pickup. I told him I wish I knew he was selling it--it would have made a great driver for some poor schmuck. Or a good coversion truck for me Still, the vehicle no longer exists. Sad. Davy
  14. Big digh of relief---glad you got it back!!!!!!! Wish you the best in building that thing as you want! Davy

Should be a good show, but alas, I'm not going to make it there. If you look closely enough, you'll find a few vendors for Z stuff though. Let us know what you find! Davy
  16. The JTR manual says to slot the mounting arms on the crossmember, NOT the engine mounts that bolt to the engine. The slotting allows your engine to slide back and forth one inch, giving you the optimum placement for the engine to your personal specs. Guys do it without slottign anything and it works fine, but for the ultimate setup, break out the Dremmel. Davy
  17. I have more respect for a good paint job on a budget then all the chrome parts money can buy. You did a great job of detailing the motor and you can always "upgrade" later to additional chrome, but who cares right now? Get it in, get it running, have fun. If only I would heed my own words Davy
  18. Dash is sure looking good! Nice work with all of the sheet metal. You do remember that I have a lot of zinc coated steel, yes? You are always welcome to as much as you want! Anyway, nice work. Davy
  19. I can totally see your point...it's just the relatively painful $1900 + shipping and any taxes that hurts. Shoot, the block is nearly twice what I payed for the whole car Davy
  20. ZZ4 is a factory high performance motor. They are sweet, but I'll take a used LS1 anyday of the week since they can be tweaked with forced induction through the EFI . I agree that the diff is tuff enough to withstand most anything, especially i it is an R200 or an R230. I just procured an R230 and man, is it big! Davy
  21. Yes, I do believe that is in the ballpark. I researched my motor build and picked out a nice 'mild' cam that should have me at 350 hp and the same amount of torque or very close. Should make for some tire shredding fun Davy
  22. Ditto on what Jon just said and check the height of the pan--is it similar to stock? You don't want too much hanging down, especially with a lowered Z car. This topic has come up a number of times. Pete Paraska and Mike Kelly have searched for the 'ultimate' pan. I think Pete eneded up with a Canton pan for a Corvette. If you search, you may find it. David
  23. I'm not going to start a flame war with that comment, but I have to tell you that so far, the Chevy is the best bang-for-the-buck combination you can come up with. Compare costs of building a 383 with 400 hp to a 3.1 stroker with 300 hp. But if sound is all you're going for, try a different camshaft... Davy
