  1. SuperKid I am not going to bash on you or anything, because I agree it isn't the coolest thing, but since it is historic and alot of work was put into it I can respect the effort. Now my remark. It is super funny that you say "anything will do a wheelie when you put all the weight in the back" when you also happened to link a honda drag car that will never do a wheelie no matter how much weight is in the back (FWD). LOL
  2. When i went to the autoshow, I liked the feel of the VIII MR's interior, clutch, and shifter much better then the STI. I didn't drive either obviously. I found the design off the evo tasteful and I did find the STI wing offensive to the eyes. Also, if you are looking at the newer cars, don't buy the horse collar, it is hideous imho. As far as performance I think they are about even. Reliability, i hear many things back and forth, but alot of wrx people have been complaining about needing turbo timers because the turbos have oil issues. On the other hand some evo's have the tranny issue. I think it is a toss up between the two, but the evo has a slight edge. The evo is lighter.
  3. Well i have just been reading many of these weather stripping posts and surpringly I never hear anyone even mention adjusting the door hinges... I think 1/16-1/8" up front can make a big difference in feel and closeability. BTW has anyone ever tried too intense resoration? http://www.datsunrestore.com/datsun_stuff.html
  4. Cant hurt to change the gear oil... Try double declutching or heel toe (id start with double declutching if you have never done heel toe). My explorer redlines 1st at 35mph, but the synchro lets it in at 25mph, if I double clutch I can get it in a 35mph easy. But ya, one really shouldnt ever have a problem shifting up if their tranny is healthy, shifting into 1st and even second at times is another thing.
  5. I think those black stang wheels fastzcar posted look SWEEEEEET. They don't compliment silver very well imho, but they got alot of potential with other colors.
  6. Has anyone tried adjusting the door hinges?
  7. What I ment by "how hard are you using the synchros" i ment, are you taking 1st or 2nd at highspeeds with out matching the speed of the gears inside the trans to the output shaft speed. What rpm would you be idealy at after entering 1st or 2nd if the synchros worked fine? BTW: You might try something in the 50 to 60 weight range for oil. 80w seems kind of heavy to me. Alot of people have had alot of success by simply changing the oil.
  8. Those are some sweet soundin hondas..... yo. No just kidding, ya that was pretty sweet hearing the gear shifts!
  9. Touche!!!! Any way, where is the best place to mount this thing if the oil pan will never be removed (for my daily driver, not the z)? I am thinking the outside of the pan is best, will the magnet really magnatize the whole thing? Maybe i should just try it myself, yep good idea. So I am going to order one now....
  10. 2. Neodymium magnets will lose their magnetic properties if heated above 175° F (80° C). Under magnet safety page... better find something rated for a little more heat.
  11. I love them, but my only problem is they don't have wheels for the 240z... then again just about nowhere does.
  12. I think the ford e-300 series is pretty good. My gf's dad has one. What is nice about it is that many hospitals use them as ambulances. Since many ambulances are required to rive fast, there is a wealth of aftermarket sway bars and everything one would need to get it handling better than stock. Alot of people dislike fords though, that is just my 2 cents.
  13. From reading the posts some people put these in a variety of places. I was thinking outside of the pan would be sweet so I could easily drain it out with the oil. But a post in one of the threads suggested that this is pointless because it will simply magnify the entire pan. I want an easy way to get the metallic dust out that doesnt include removing the oil pan. So, what is the consensus? Might these also be useful for diff and tranny?
  14. Intresting. How hard were you using the synchros? What gear oil are you using? Were you double de-clutch when entering 1st or second? Do you heel toe?
  15. I want to see a .8" stroke by 1.5" bore v12, or is that way too much bore? Think the rev's would sound sweeeet, it sure would spin!
  16. Ya true on some of the AWD vehicles. I don't know if the skyline atessa system is hooked into the ABS, there probably is a switch to deactivate it. I think in a general RWD i prefer not.
  17. I though F1 cars, at least last time i checked are full manual brakes/no booster with no ABS. Thanks for the comments guys. What about ABS on rears only? (That is what my truck has. It is to stop the rears from locking and killing the engine)
  18. It should run cooler and burn less gas. The egr basically in simple terms reduces the size of the combustion chamber by using non cumbustible gas (exhaust) to use up some of the combustion chamber's volume. It is automatically disabled when you get into the throttle heavily.
  19. Okay, I was chatting with Gollum and we couldn't decide which is better abs or non-abs for performance. From what I have heard a skilled driver who has become acquainted with their non-abs car can outrun the same car with abs. Is this true? Anythoughts? Does the gain in control outway the abs's precision? NOTE: We all know ABS is a great invention it really saves lives, it is great, etc etc. But please keep this in a performance racing viewpoint only. Thanks!
  20. Well a stock 240z depending which zone it was purchased in weighs 2300-2350, but even so that should only lower the car about .5 inch to 1 inch over the 1-1.5" drop i believe tokico intended. That would add up to about a 2-2.5" drop, but maybe you got unlucky.
  21. I like ford, never had a problem with them. Can you please not bash on someones car when they already have a problem with it. I don't think many people would appreciate me going to the chevy forum, or anyother for that matter, and simply saying that all their problems are due to the brand, when it isn't something that can easily be changed. Thanks
