Guest darrell
im trying to take my R200 apart and im stuck at getting the stub axles out.
stony
Use a large screw driver and pry them out. You could also use a brass hammer or mallet. There is just a snapring that holds them in and should just pop out. Sometimes it takes alittle ass
zcarnut
The “secret†is to use two large screwdrivers and pry on opposite sides. Using only one creates enough side force to jam up the stub axle.
naviathan
Hmmm, or better yet, how about getting a stub axel puller?
Guest darrell
thanks for the info, i thought there was some kinda retaining clip hidden in the gears so i didnt want to just force the axles out.
trwebb26
zcarnut has the ticket.... heavy85 (cameron) taught me that trick - pry out the stub axles with two screwdrivers/pry bars - one on each side of the shaft. It keeps the splines from binding up with you are trying to separate them... It makes all the difference.
Guest darrell
i got it out. it was a bitch but i got it out. one side was easy , and the other side, i had to wedge both pry bars in with hammer then bang on one bar to pop the sucker out. bent the stub axle a little. Corzette
Hmmm, I always just used two small crow bars...put em in on each side and push down at the same time with a quick effort and bingo..
evildky
I had one taht just would not come apart, I finally got them free by beating them in, then prying them out, the circlip just would not let the things pop out, so when in douby, BFH
LLave
tie one end to the bumper of a truck, the other to the fat kid down the street. Then simply wait for the ice cream man to drive by. Works like a charm.
Cable
Another run at the top.... How do they come out with the R200 still installed in the car (S30). I plan on swapping out the u-joint axles for some Z31 turbo CV axles and adapters from Modern Motorsports in the near future. Thanks!! jeffer949
Same way as when they are out of the car..... 2 screw drivers or a prybar or something similar.
Lazeum
Why not using the half shafts as a puller? You compress them first and then you pull quickly on them, they will extand until they bottom out, it will pop out the ring that retains the stub axle with the hit. This is what I did and it worked well. You do not have to use a lot of force to do so.
