Supamandatsun
The body rust is minimal, but there's a lot of surface rust underneath. Body work will be time consuming but not hard, my friend and i will do that when he comes back for the summer, but working under the car will be hard. Also I plan to roll on the paint(rustoluem paint job). Interior is ok, in terms of being clean, but the dash is cracked and some brittle'd plastics and faded ones too. So body work+paint job should cost around $90 of supplies. 3 of my upper dashlights wont turn on when i press the check button. halp! garettn
I've been a member here for quite a few years learning alot but never posted as it seems so many people here have ALOT more Z knowledge than myself. Anyway I got my Z as an economical college car (free from my Dad's girlfriends sister). It's been a project over the past few years and I'm trying to finish it but it seems like it's a project that will never end. Here are some of the mods and in-process items. I haven't dynoed the car yet but it's a little scary at 18psi and I can smoke my buddies 442rwhp mustang. Except for the balancing and serious machine work I've done all the work myself learning as I go. 1981 280zx GL Slicktop NA(originally) 5-speed Motor: F54 block, silverlight pistons, polished crank P90 Head, Port matched and polished 2mm metal Head gasket Jim Wolf stage 2 turbo cam, Harmonically balanced springs Garret T3/T40B, water & oil cooled ...I think 50 trim ported & modified exhaust housing for external wastegate External tail 38mm wastegate, 1.5" pipe goes into exhaust after DP 3" Mandrel DP and exhaust, no cat with magnaflow muffler JSK rail w/ 550cc RC racing injectors MSD fuel pump, 3/8" aluminum line to rail Aeromotive Fuel pressure regulator with electronic sender N42 Intake, port matched and polished 60mm 240sx Throttle body, lexan spacer 2.5" aluminum intake tubing, T-band clamps throughout 27"x 12"x 3.5" Bar and Plate Intercooler TurboXS BOV RFL-H EDIS coil on plug Megasquirt II EFI BIG summit oil cooler mounted between FMIC and radiator 2 stage boost controller, 10psi and 18psi zeitronix Wideband o2 sensor 16" electric fan controlled by MS Suspension: Full Tokico race system... PurePontiacKid
It doesn't. She drives straight and smooth, no problems. It gets a little rough when I change lanes and take out road dots though. zxtoy
No pics yet but I've had my 80zx slick top 5spd coupe for 6 years now. I also have a 79 zx slick top 5spd coupe that is now a parts car. My zx isn't pretty yet but runs great. I have driven it daily (by choice) for well over a year now. It's a blast to drive. Hopefully this summer will see some body and paint work. signal34
My first Datsun was a black and tan 79 2+2 five speed that I bought over twenty years ago. That one was sold off years ago and has long since went the way of the scrapyard but I have always had a soft spot for second gens with that color combo. I recently found a 83 280ZXT in the same color combo. Has a few issues but overall its in good shape. Good body, solid frame rails and floorpan and an uncracked dash. Not bad for $1500.
