73DatsunZ
I was wondering how much you guys paid for your R200 diff's. Which Nissan car did you get them off of/year? When I get my project under way I just want to know whats going to be best.
blueovalz
I think prices range from $80 to $100 from the salvage yard, and more from more specialized sources. In regards to years, there is a sticky on this forum that tells everything your need to know about years and gear ratios.
Kennysgreen280zt
I think I paid under $30 for mine from the local pull a part.
Titus_RacerX
I paid $250 for the complete donor car. A '83 280ZXT that I called "Rusty Bucket", from her I took complete engine, electrical harness, computer, t-tops, R-200, CV axles, tail lights, marker lights. So, I think I have negative $50 in the R200. What I need is a 280Z Mustache bar
S30TRBO
$50 from a R30 Skyline from Japan. 3.9 ratio Thanks Stony!!
rudypoochris
$70 from pick-n-pull. Post #52 IIRC in the differential sticky has a list of all the ratios.
73DatsunZ
Thanks for all the info guys. I am going to be putting an LS1 in my 240z with the 4 Speed Auto tranny and possibly a Procharger. I was also wondering what ratio would be best? Sorry if I am asking noob questions
nismopick
I was also wondering what ratio would be best? That depends on what you want... Top end speed? Or off the line speed?
Mike C
I gave $75 for mine. It is a 12mm 3.54 geared unit from an '85 Turbo car that burned with only 50k miles on it. I swapped in a Precision Gear LSD (No spacers needed!) and the pinion yoke from a '78 R200 that I originally swapped into my car, and it was free from a buddy. blueovalz
Please, no tears....I just purchased an '88 CLSD with axles from a 300ZX Turbo for $90 from a pick-and-pull (3.70 ratio).
rudypoochris
With axles, thats great. Usually P-N-P wants $65 for diff, +$35 a side for axles. Remember these were $25 two years ago: http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&ih=006&sspagename=STRK%3AMEWA%3AIT&viewitem=&item=160204849337&rd=
rejracer
I paid 150 with axles from a fellow parting a 280zx out. Ratio was 3.90. Since then I have purchased 2 parts cars, complete. Both are 83's, one turbo and one NA. I will be parting them out when I have pulled the parts I am interested in. So I hope to be in the -several hundred dollars range for mine when it's all said and done. I think a lot of the price has to do with who is pulling it. I showed up at the guys house and he loaded them in the car for me. So I don't think I paid too much.
73DatsunZ
That depends on what you want... Top end speed? Or off the line speed? I would rather have a happy medium. honestly. I want to have a fast 1/4 mile car, but not way to rediculous for streetablity.
73DatsunZ
theres 2 R200 diff's for sale near me for $100 each ones a 3.90 ratio and the other is a 3.54. Should I pick one of them up? He also has some rims with tires too.

junglist
anyone have a 280z mustache bar they'd be willing to let go by chance?
rejracer
I would go for the 3.90's myself. At that price I would probably go for both of them if you don't know what your end state combination is going to be. Indecision is an expensive long term option. In other words what do you want to do with the car? You can always sell excess parts later too. Fast drag car and streetability are at opposite ends of the requirements spectrum. Turbo? Late 5 speed? Do you want to be able to play around with different ratio's? Are you willing to pull the 280z mustache bar and front cross member to match? Based on what I am assuming, I would go with 3.90's and if you don't already have one, get a 81-83 5 speed to match. It's just an opinion though, you really need to think about what you like in a car, how will you drive it?
73DatsunZ
I guess thats what I need to figure out. I am using the 4 speed auto tranny that came with the LS1. I would like to have a really fast street car that will be fast with slicks at the 1/4 mile.
stony
$50 from a R30 Skyline from Japan. 3.9 ratio Thanks Stony!! A clutch type LSD i might add. Did i really sell that for 50bux:cuss: Dont expect to find one of those in the near future. Maybe a one wheel wonder. The clutch lsd's go for 4-800 depending on the area and what condition they are in and the gearing.
