Challenger
Just curious. I drove a RAV4, Suburban, Saturn Vue or a minivan for almost 2.5 years... never a single ticket, no trouble, period. I get my 280zxt and bam 2 tickets in 2 or 3 days... almost wreckless endangerment for donuts at 10pm at the community college (also the ZX happened to start and drive off as the security told me to get out of the car..) Luckily, 1 was for tabs (doesnt affect insurance), other was speeding (attended traffic school, no affect on insurance) and the donuts I just got a warning.. Im really curious if this is somewhat normal or if I am just unable to control myself... I remember a couple old threads where someone (I believe it was Prox) mentioned he got 3 tickets in a week, so I dont feel quite alone. So, how much trouble has your car gotten you into or gotten you out of?
at-jefft
It was actually my parents cobalt LS (base) that got me in trouble. haha
rturbo 930
Doesn't run. Keeps me out of trouble.
FlatBlack
No paint + Loud exhaust + bored local LEOs = 7 warnings, two tickets in one year. I had been in Fayetteville for two weeks, and drove down a busy street one night. I was pulled over and given a ticket for spinning out in the intersection. I didn't do it. I took it to court and it was thrown out. I attribute it to different driving styles from BR to Fayetteville :/ I never got pulled over there. PETEW
I know when to play and when to not. That is what keeps me out of trouble.

LowCarbZ
I refuse to say anything because if I do, I know i'll have some crap luck the next few weeks and get pinched.
pete280z
I'm going with "keeps me out of trouble" because I've owned my current Z for 5 years and it's been on the road for maybe 4 months of that. I've probably put less than 250 miles on it. It's not so much a car as a car-shaped money sink that occupies my garage.
woldson
You've built it, somehow for me it is always fun to push it to its limits, (trash it). Odd how this happens, it seems to overcome common sense at frist.......
hoov100
for all the stupid crap i have done in cars/bikes over the years, i have only gotten two tickets. one for 57 in a 45 in my mothers jeep after i totaled my first z32 and the second was for doing 33 in a 25, but i had my feet propped on the bars and was leaning back with my hands behind my head on my R1 (yeah i know, dont need the lecture here either) amazingly with all the stupid crap i have done in my z's I have yet to get a ticket. jeffer949
Well lets just say my driving record was clean when i got my Z. I didnt get in trouble alot till i went turbo. Lets just say i have a court date on thursday for my exhaust being to loud and no turn signal. I dont know how the cop expects the exhaust one to stick as it has a full exhaust system and my car is rather quiet. But mine def. gets me in trouble. luckily not when it should ie. racing down the interstate at 2am lol
capt_furious
I've harvested two 'driving while stupid' citations with the Z. Both could have been easily avoided by not letting my ego get the better of me. LowCarbZ has the right idea, I shouldn't say any more out of the fear of jinxing my now clean driving record. Chris240zTurbo
I haven't been in trouble with the law for acting stupid on the street in several years, but I always figured that whenever I did get caught, I've had it coming for all the stupid crap I've pulled. Got a 118 in a 65 speeding ticket in Wyoming once, had to bond out of jail. ('82 ZXT) Got a 96 in a 60, then less than an hour later got a 94 in a 60, both in Wyoming, mailed the ticket fines in and somehow one was not dealt with properly, had a warrant out, not a fun time. Wyoming will put a "hold" on your Colorado DL for an unpaid ticket/warrant ('72 240Z) Was pulled over and handcuffed for racing a guy I knew, no ticket and no jail, but the patrolman sure scared the everloving crap out of me ('78 SBC 280Z vs. '67 Chevelle) friend was let go also. And probably the biggest bone head maneuver, in a Z car anyway - left a friends house late, about 2 A.M.on a Tuesday night, hit the highway, HWY 86 from South Denver to Colorado Springs, I was going maybe 75 in a 55, and noticed a car coming up behind me, so I figured I'd just open it up. Left the pursuing car far behind, and came up over a small rise in the road several miles later to find two state trooper crown vics with lights going, blocking the road, turns out the car I had seen coming up behind me was a county coroner. Went to Jail (speeding 100+, wreckless driving, and a ticket for a non op taillight) car was towed and impounded, mucho dollars and a lawyer later, I get the car back and got to pay two years of SR-22 high risk insurance, not fun. ('72 240Z) Now bear in mind, all of this was more than a decade ago, I've grown up a lot since then, Although it seems when I get together with Big-Phil, I lose that decade of maturity, I hope neither of us ever gets caught driving stupid, but if we do, we'll have earned it... Tony D
Police Officer: "Your Car, I see (hesitates as he can't believe he's saying the word) underneath!" No Ticket Police Officer: "Oh, veeeeery speedy, no can clock! You have tail light out, you fix, O.K.?" No Ticket Police Officer (along with 20 other personnel with M16's pointed at me): "So that little display back there, that was you? What do you think this is, the Indy 500?" Wrong Response: "No, they go counterclockwise (make motions with my finger to explain it) I was going clockwise!" Escorted to station, got ticket. License Suspended 6 months because of 2 tickets in 90 days. Previous ticket was for (no lie) 15mph in a 12mph zone. (To be honest, the Z didn't get me the tickets, those were the "No Ticket Stories"---the car that got my license pulled was a 2L DOHC 76 Toyota Celica GT Liftback with an 18RG-R from a 73 GSS Corolla in it ... 145HP @ 6800 rpms) That Toyota was devil-posessed. I got my license pulled in it. I sold it to a guy that ended up getting kicked out of the service for antics he did while driving it. It compelled you to do stupid sh*t! His antic was better than my 5 minute smoking donut show in a vacant parking lot... He took off in a street race from a light where the cops were the first vehcile in the line stopped in crosstraffic. They had started in pursiut, but 'He was gone'... Till moronicus pulled a U-Turn at the next light and started dragging back in the other direction! Provost Marshalls took their van and jumped the center median to get him. Anybody stationed on Okinawa will know the main gate at Butler at 58 and the light at 330 bypass---just before the Naval Hospital, that's where he did his U-Turn... D'OH! I haven't owned a Toyota Since. My wife, btw, hated that car. Seems like every time she drove it something broke and left her stranded. But the Fairlady was rock solid reliable ("Honey, how fast is 180KPH?" WHY? "Oh, the Z just seems to get quiet and like running at that speed...") I blame it on demonic posession, Kijimunna... Chris240zTurbo
Tony, your Celica story reminds me of a good friend who was in the USAF and stationed in Italy, he had purchased some little Fiat sedan from another airman and it had some kind of a much hotter engine swapped in it, he had loads and loads of hilarious stories about the car, he sold it to another airman when he left Italy, who looked him up stateside years later to swap stories about the car, just hit me as funny... so far Brian wins, (or maybe loses?) $15k and a felony??? dang. Challenger
Yeah brian, want to elaborate any? I was pissed for $300 in one week on tickets. I guess it can always be worse... Yeah I guess I should have specified "running z/zx". Makes a big difference. My 78 has never really "ran" so it has always kept me out of trouble. Unlike the ZX which has always been drivable.
