Neverdone
I'm not saying putting the Hyabusa V8 into a Z would be a great idea...just one that hasn't been done yet. But yeah, it makes less than no sense because the engine alone costs around 10 grand! It sure would be neat though
kj280z
All I saw was a bunch of half assed butchering by both teams - TOTALLY lame! The paint on the red car was HIDEOUS and most of the mods were just plain amateur on the red Z The white one was a total mess - the body work was a joke and I'd bet if you saw EITHER of those cars in person without their "creative TV editing" you'd be mortified at the hack job stupidity done by both teams Edited March 18, 2011 by kj280z
CaptainJoe87
Whats with all the smack talk on the Datsuns? Those people ruined a perfectly good car. The red one wasn't that bad, kinda liked the tail lights wont lie.
Eva
Don't get me wrong here, I actually don't mine the white one, It looks like Speed Racer's Mach 5. Datsun's have been a base body for many Kit cars. If the TV time is correct, it's not a bad job for 72hrs. If they had more time, they probably could of done a better job. joker120
Whats with all the smack talk on the Datsuns? Those people ruined a perfectly good car. The red one wasn't that bad, kinda liked the tail lights wont lie. I'll agree the show generally blew but I loved those tail lights also. Any of you guys have some info/tech on those, it would be appreciated I'm a sucker for that original modded red one even if the paint was a bit off. Those guys had crap for prep time so you know both of those cars will look hideous in a couple months. I'd be interested to see any of the paint jobs 6 months later that these overhaulin shows do. I am just a layman, but I thought those chemicals needed to evaporate before you put on your color?
richracing
I wanted to vomit when I saw them hack up the white 240z, What a waste... and the smack talking on Datsun was lame. "It's still a Datsun" LMAO!
Pharaohabq
Yeah, I got to see the show on Saturday night, Wow what a kludge, and what was with the "it's still just a datsun" comments. I was impressed at how quickly the white team pulled the engine in what 12 mins?, that was impressive, though on a 73' there's not that much holding it in, even if it was a hatchet job. The rest of the show was just painful. I mean I'm all for seeing modified cars, but hey there's something to be said for taste. The White car was just a hatchet job right from the start. The Blue team (Red car) They're supposed to be Euro Import Specialists??? Yeah they're young, but oh my they knew nothing about Z cars. Trying to go Over the Top was the theme, I would have said, okay, lets hack off the fenders and go WIIIIDE BODY, Massive tires, and mount the engine higher so those air cleaners stick out of the hood for the hole they cut. The Fenders just moved out about 4 or 5 inches, Filled behind with sheet metal wouldn't have been any harder than what the White team did, they could have done a much better job on the tailight plate. just carbon fiber over the Stock lights was embarassing. Might as well have mounted Trailer lights on the back. Now, I don't know what all was availible, but the blue team knew they were up against a blower engine, You'd think they could have fount at least one TURBO in that parts cage, Just something to even the scales. I'm glad the R180's in the 240's held up. in the end though, the blue team(red car) had a better looking car, retained some value, even if they "PIMPED" out the interior quite a bit. Maybe fuzzy dice would have scored more points. It wasn't as bad as the white car though. The White one just wasn't a Z anymore. These are supposed to be the best of the best, yeah right... maybe from Okee-pokee Technical institute. The Judges! oh my! I can't believe how slanted they were. It was obvious they didn't like datsuns from the start. and I don't know where the guy from WC Kustoms, Pimp my ride dude said "I can't fit in here" I'm 6'5", yeah I gotta move the seat back, but I fit fine, plenty of headroom. If the scoring was based on how badly you can fark up a Z, then the White car team appropriately won, but as far as value or workmanship I believe both teams and indeed the Show "Car Warriors" itself were the losers. I have no respect for the Speed Channel for green lighting an episode like that.
Khaserwolf
Im a lon fan of speed racer but when i saw them hack that Z up, i was upset, but i like what the blue team did with the red 240Z.
joker120
just carbon fiber over the Stock lights was embarassing. Might as well have mounted Trailer lights on the back. I had no idea they did that, I missed the first 30 minutes of it. I've always had a problem with those dang tails on such a curvy car. I search around all the time for round tail conversions and one-offs
Pharaohabq
I watched a few min of last nights episode, 78' caddie's they were farking up.. I think the competition is rigged. In the show the judges liked the competition's (blue teams) car better, but still gave the win to the All stars - Red team (then touting how much better everything was that they said sucked earlier on the red teams car). It's wasted space TV. Wasted Time, Hopefully it'll get cancelled shortly. I can't say I cared about the caddies as much as the 240Z's but they cut them up just as much. A much better show I also saw last night was, something like Junker to Gems, or something, where they find a old beater (in this case a 64' fairlane) and fix it up decently, while actually showing how many $1000's they're spending and how many man hours. They then try to sell the car at classic auction to make $. ( last nights was a $700 car, +almost $40K in repairs w/ 300 hours, sold for $68K = +~25K profit). Will they ever do a Z, much less a 240? Highly unlikely, though it would be nice to see one of these shows give some love to the Datsun.
kj280z
They are the worst bunch of fhack amateurs on car related TV! I will never watch that BS show again! Waste of time! Edited March 25, 2011 by kj280z
Trevor
Desert Car Kings on Discovery is a much better show. At least I like the finished products they come up with. The only silly trauma/drama thing I have seen so far is a rattlesnake in the wrecking yard..... brings all their operations to a stop. These guys have been in the business in Phoenix for 30 years and don't know how to deal with a snake? Come on! bunch of little girls! Pharaohabq
Sadly I had to watch it again last night, (my wife said, "no you watch your shows, you never get to, here I'll put it on for you." Gimmie the controller... no...) So watched it, and they cut up 66' mustangs. The challengers actually won. Deservatively so too. The All star pros made their car into a dragster looking nova car that looked more like it should have been in a tractor pull. the challengers did a really nice job with their paint (though I don't care for the texan thing) The made the car decent and unobtrusive. that won it for them. It's pretty obvious the show is tailored tward people who don't know diddly about cars. But at least this time they didn't hack the hell out of the cars making them into anything that on top of not being legal to drive, would actually retain value. 20 hours though to figure you had to cut down an air filter... Guh. a intake tube and an airbox would have solved the issue quick. Oh and they were so worried that a cutting blade would make too much heat on the back side of the hood to mess up the paint... drama drama drama... Dee
Didn't catch the show but I went over to their website where I saw a few photos. Right off the bat I hated the white one, it was creative and looked good for a 'movie set' but I would not drive around in that ugly thing. The red one looked decent from what I could see but they really only provided pictures of the front. I'll have to go through my TV guide and see when it's showing again. GOTHALOSISM
I don't think I have seen a Lambo V10 in a Zed yet.
kamikaZeS30
^^That's because no one really wants to spend the money to buy an engine from a quarter-million dollar car to put it into something you could buy twenty of, fully-restored, for the price of said engine. There are engines that would perform just as well for tiny fractions of the cost. That's why the v8 swaps are so popular in the Z. It's a cheap way to make A LOT of power. seattlejester
Just saw the mustang one last night. The premise of the all stars was a bit strange, it seems their stance is change the inherent design of the car so much that they get credit with originality. I wish it would be to bring out what made the car an icon, if not to them then to the people that love them. And I agree the engine limitations is a bit strange, I understand that time is an issue if it is enforced, but still, it would be interesting if they found similar hp engines of different makes or something. Still nice to see a car show where work gets done.
Pharaohabq
Not Cancelled yet... I saw the first few min of the new VW one last night. The Challengers had a better design, but I dunno who won.
richracing
all stars won, i actually liked thier bug, but the center seat was retarded and pointless, not to mention the brake and gas pedals looked sketchy
