  1. Very interesting...I'm really tempted, but unfortunately at the moment short on funds. Still trying to get rid of this MSII ECU so i can get my bearings for my stroker build.
  2. If you plan to autocross I'd get some kind of roll bar in and go from there.
  3. Replacement dashboards? Not likely. There are some that will recover your dash and it'll look new again, but I'm not aware of anyone making dash replacements.
  4. Supposedly it will engage. I believe from the info I've read on the swap you use the Z speedo gear and housing. Supposedly it fits. How much do you charge for a wide ration trans ready to drop in?
  5. I checked the winning bidders past purchases and he seems to be a collector of things Datsun, especially Z. And he obviously makes much much much more money than I do.
  6. Welcome to the club, I've been through 4 trannies in the last year. And that's on my daily driver, all stock 81ZX. Anyhow, dropping the tranny and putting in a new one is simple. Get a Haynes manual if you have to or just download the FSM from http://www.carfiche.com and follow the instructions.
  7. Sweet, I have a TEC 3 as well, just don't have anything put together yet.
  8. Good point, never thought of that.
  9. A laser pointer? This is a new one on me, how does that work?
  10. Dragonfly, Yes this is on my 280ZX. Sounds like your buddy has run into the same walls I have so far. Baffling isn't it?
  11. Sorry, thought I'd gone over that. been there done that. Nothing on the ground. A friend at work suggested a freeze plug could be seeping and it dries on the block or under the exhaust manifold before it hits the ground. I'm going to look into that one.
  12. Well, I don't think it's a lean burn. The plugs are pretty new, say a month at most. The car was running rich because the O2 went out then I replaced that and the plugs at the same time because of the rich running. They do have a very slight tan coming in on the ceramic portion of the electrode, but it is very light. Maybe it is burning in the cylinders, but all of them at the same time? I pressured tested for that very reason and got nothing back from the cooling.
  13. Nah, you can easily cut it with tin snips or carbon wheel.
  14. Probably custom made. Looks like steel mesh.
  15. People seem to have trouble dealing with the stresses of daily life. More and more I see people with social disorders and stress related conditions because everyone is pressed so hard to be what's expected of them everywhere they go. Kids in school are expected to learn, understand and score high on everything. The class work and level of intellect involved in schools today are much higher and it's pushing some kids too hard. The ones that can manage it seem to have a more general understanding of the world or are simply social outcasts due to the pressures of parents and teachers. I wonder if they'll ever come to point where school boards will recognize the need for a more grounded and relaxing work enviroment for kids. Think about it, if you took a corporate office building and tore down all the cubicles and walls around everyone, how stressed out do you think everyone would become? Classrooms are just like this. Cubicles make for a more personal enviroment to work in, more relaxing and comfortable. School desks and open classrooms make everyone anxious and uncomfortable. Some kids cope by being the class clown, some reject others and close themselves off socially and others bottle everything in and eventually become our social walking time bombs.
  16. Mostly just back and forth to work, usually around 500miles a week give or take.
  17. Best retro fit kit I found for our cars is the Xenon Xe7 setups. They're awesome and when I get the money to snag a set for both my Z's I will. Look them up. There was a set on eBay not too long ago.
  18. Trust me I know this. I don't get it either, but I have not been able to find a leak anywhere and there's no oil in the coolant or coolant in the oil, no white smoke or steam except on cold startups, but that's normal. No wetness in the floorboards, nothing on the bellypan, the sides of the block are dry. I'm completely and utterly confused on this one. No idea where it's going to. The only thing out of the ordinary (besides the missing coolant) is whenever I pull the radiator cap after it's cooled down it sounds like someone flushed a toilet. Like there's air in the system and the cap is holding the water in the radiator then when the cap is removed the pressure releases the water into the rest of the block. I've replaced the cap and the thermostat in the last two weeks. Still nothing seems to be working.
  19. Ok here's the compression numbers just incase anyone has any ideas. 1 - 170 2 - 168 3 - 171 4 - 161 5 - 170 6 - 164 The numbers just don't seem to match the plugs or the pressure test.
  20. Ok, check these out they're left to right by cylinder: #1 looks oil burned and the rest seem lean to me, but they're not. When I pressurized the cylinders (connected an air line from my compressor) they all checked out except #5 which blew quite a bit out of the crankcase through the valve cover. I was actually looking for a leak into a water passage but found none. my cars been drinking about 2.5 gallons of coolant a week. I didn't get any blow back into radiator at all. I'm utterly confused on this one. #1 looks oil burnt, but checks out, #5 looks clean, but blows out the crank case. Any thoughts?
  21. Yes the engine would have EGR. The N42 and the P90 are comparable in performance when worked. The P90 off the factory floor is better flowing though.
  22. Ummmmm, yeah the brake booster line is a BIG vacuum leak.
  23. Any deck clearance will be fine so long as it's not negetive. I've looked at destroking an L28 before as well. Except I was planning to use an L24 crank and rods with L28 flat tops, L26 "C" stamp cam and an E88 head. A friend wanted an engine for a turbo project with high compression and could wind out to at least 8k. I figured going that route and keeping moderate boost, say 12psi, would be fairly quick, reliable and have a crap load of top end. Might want to think about trying that instead of custom rods and pistons. it'd be cheaper.
