  1. If the battery is draining overnight, then you have something seriously wrong in the electrical system. Easiest way to track it down is to get a good digital multimeter that will read a 20A draw and connect it to the battery. If it's draining over night it should be a substantial draw. Start pulling fuses until the draw drops off. Once it drops you've found the circuit the problem is in. Then it's a matter tracing it down from there.
  2. Hehehe, I'll assume the egos comment is directed at my last post to your questions. Either way I'll try this again. What happens to a battery whether it is being used or not while it sits it loses a charge to the air around it. It will die from temperature changes and just not being used over time. Get a new battery in the car or try to charge the one you have. Go from there. We can't do anything if it doesn't turn over and give a symptom.
  3. Yeah, what are you teaching? I may want lessons...I'll send you a cashiers check too...lol
  4. Lets see here....you have a 280z. Assuming your quoting the badging on the car properly this means it's anything from 1975-1978. How about we looks at computer technology from back then...Oh yeah, there was practically nothing to speak of so, no it has no ports to plug into and there's no way for the car to tell you what's wrong... Go Here: http://www.atlanticz.ca/zclub/techtips/ And study and learn.
  5. I would also suggest a solid state HDD. They have 4 gig plus USB drives now and most of your newer motherboard BIOS today allow for removable media boot devices. I know it can be done with Windows, although I'm not sure of that process myself. Linux on the other hand I can make do cartwheels and is my planned route of attack. I figured with Wine or one of the other crossover type apps I can get my tuning software for the TEC3 running easily enough. Everything else is simple Linux. Anyone interested in understanding Linux and wanting to learn more then any one person should know about it, check out Gentoo. It's simplistic, adaptive and the forums are incredible.
  6. You know it's funny, cops in NC still can't drive to this day. I spent a lot of time in high school with flashing lights fading away in the rear view....
  7. Ok, this thread has been dead since October last year....Why oh why did you feel the need to revive it?
  8. That's insane...Why spend all that cash for something that's just not going to be useful anywhere? Bling? Show? Give it to someone who can use it...
  9. I thought that sounded familiar. When I was in High School we listened to ICP...Last time a heard an ICP song I thought to myself, "what were thinking? That's complete garbage with a beat..."
  10. Ummmm, I'm sorry but that is hideously ugly and not feasible. You try to run that down a track and the first hard launch will rip all that ♥♥♥♥ off the top of the engine.
  11. If you search this has actually been discussed in full detail before.
  12. When I was in 6th grade I played a lot of role playing games and online MUDs. For my first D&D game I ever played I made a mage character and called him Naviathan. No idea where the name came from, just popped in my head and I've used it for everything because it's unique. It's kind of odd now, here I am 14 years later and I still have the same screen name and explaining it to people gives me some odd looks.
  13. No kidding! I saw this thread come up and I looked at the date thinking, I've never seen this one before...Holy Crap this is old!
  14. They have the proper bolt pattern, but the offset doesn't look right. I think you'll end up hitting the springs. Especially with a coilover setup.
  15. Well I assumed I was getting vapor lock, but it looks like it's leaking injectors. Not surprising.
  16. Now that makes a lot of sense. Maybe next time I'll just disconnect the harness from the cold start valve and see if that works. Thanks.
  17. That seems simple enough, but the Z injectors don't have filters and the opening are a bit smaller.
  18. What do you use to sonic clean fuel injectors? I thought about buying one of these jewelery cleaners for my wife and I thought maybe I could buy two and use one with parts cleaner to clean fuel injectors. Would that work? Or is there a certain type of sonic cleaner to use on car parts?
  19. Well, does carfax say anything negetive? Usually if something comes up it will say there was something reported on this vehicle and you have to purchase the report to find out.
  20. Nah, the limit on carfax is 85 I believe. That's when they went to a national standard on VIN number length. It should be coming up.
  21. Hmmm interesting. I may have to look into that possibility. Would sonic cleaning the injectors stop them from leaking or is that just the end of it when they start?
  22. Damn...Why can't I get that lucky? I want a 240 to restore so bad...
  23. I'm not a Ford fan, but I bought my wife an 89 Ford Ranger XLT with the 2.9l V6 because it was cheap. Runs great and I only paid $400 for it from a guy I work with. We've had it over a year now and I had to have the front pump seal replaced on the tranny. Aside from that little incident this truck has run great and hauled everything I can think of. It gets good gas mileage, especially if you keep your foot out of the pedal and it's comfortable.
  24. Ok but if I drive around and get the car completely warmed up then stop at say a gas station or someplace where I'm only going to be there 30 minutes or less when I restart it acts like it's vapor locked and the temp gauge reads well over center gauge for about 30 seconds until everything gets moving again.
  25. Ok I started checking through the FSM and although it's for an 82 not an 81 I think I may have an idea of what's going on. It appears the only way that fan can kick on while the car is running is if the ignition relay for some reason opens signaling the ignition is off to the fan motor timer unit. No I just need to find all these components and figure out what the issue is.
