You will need to pull the pan off and look at the 3 center main journals they will have 2 bolts or 4 bolts holding each one on. Keith

Thanks for the responces guys I will take some pix when done I think I will just rent a good heater and warm up the shop when I have the time to tackel this job. It is about 12*F today and gonna stay that way for the rest of the week. If not my buddy will let me use a space in his heated shop. thanks again Keith -
I take offense to the quote 87 rx-7 as a fat heavy car! I love mine and I love it much more with the 350/700r4 combo in it. I did the whole swap in a few monthes working only a few hours a week!! And I did it for less than the cost of a new ported rotor motor!! Under 2 grand total!!! here are a bunch of photos of it. http://photos.yahoo.com/bc/rx7260z/lst?.dir=/V-8+RX-7&.view=t There is a hood scoop being built right now, the hood won't stay like that!! I thought z car purists were a tough bunch(I was "tossed" from 2 z clubs for converting mine) until I cut up my rx-7 those rotor heads are REAL TOUGH but the real car guys I hang out with dont care what it "was" or how it "looks" as long as it is FAST Keith P.S. for anybody interested in this swap stopover at http://www.torquecentral.com/ and hop to the v8rx7 board there are a bunch of very helpful poeple there. Scottie GNZ has even shown up ther as of late!!

Terry, I see said the blind man as he picked up his hammer and saw!!! I now understand your previous posts. Now all I have to do is convince the wife to let me fiberglass in the house. It is 22*F in the shop right now. Is there a good brand of resin you can reccomend.? I have used West System 105/205 before but lately I have been using the cheap BONDO brand sold at AUTOZONE. I have a bunch of mat here. What would you use for the mat I have both woven mat and chopped strand mat. Thank you again Keith -
I posted this question a while back. Now I have a few photos to better explain my situation. I would like to know how to make this cowl induction scoop a bolt on or bonded on scoop. Terry has tried to explain to me how to do this but I just cant comprehend his instructions. maybe these photos can help with any help you all can give me. http://photos.yahoo.com/bc/rx7260z/lst?.dir=/RX-7+Hood+scoop&.src=ph&.view=t Thank you all again!! Toyota 4X4 rear brake caliper wont back down
383 240z replied to a topic in Brakes, Wheels, Suspension and Chassis
Most discount auto part stores will loan you the tools (AUTO ZONE, PEP BOYS, ADVANCE AUTO) this is the best way to backdown the piston. clock wise puts it back into the bore. Keith -
so much bad taste, so few bullets!! Keith

Hey Len If you are not to far from Signal Hill Cal. I would stop by MAZDATRIX they sell a bolt in conversion kit works pretty good I used it when I put a 13B 6 port in my 84 GSL. Keith Their web site is WWW.MAZDATRIX.COM Keith

I installed a set of clear sight plugs tonight.I dont see any fuel with the motor running. I have the fuel psi. set at 6lbs. I may try to back it down a bit(4.5 or 5lbs) I cant wait to get this thing running right the guys at work and the parts store are driving me nutz to see it.

I was wondering if anybody knew at what temp. I should use as bottom end for fiberglassing out side? I have a nice un-heated shop that my wife has banished me to. She said the fumes were going to give the dogs brain damage (I guess she figures I'm to far gone!!) I'm still working on the pix so Terry can help me some more on the hoodscoop project. Keith

I put new plugs in the car this morning in my attempt to tune the carb. It is running VERY rich. I started the motor and after it came off of choke the plugs were fouled out so bad the timing light would not fire. Is there a way to lean the choke circuit? I dont know much about carbs so any help would be helpfull!!! The motor is a stock 350 with a 700r4 the carb is an off the shelf 0-80508S with vac 2nd and eletric choke Keith

The hardest part was convincing the wife that this was a good idea. She is a rotory purist. She bought her 85 GSL-SE and was upset when I started modding it. But after it was done she loved it. I changed to a piston motor after I blew my 4th rotor motor in six years. I think the fit and quality of Grannys parts was very good but I would not buy the whole kit. The shipping was fast and the price was what I was quoted. The problem most people seem to have was with his stuff for LT1 and LS1 motors into Gen 3 cars. Big money and poor fitment. As for if I would sell it of course nothing last for ever write a big enough check and I'll sell just about anything!!! Keith

No Mike it was more like this. Now Ken just so we both understand each other your truck wont be released until paid for in whole. No dollars, No Denali!! His reply yea dawg we L7. But was a nice guy and now wants me to look at his girls 5 series BMW. CHACHING!!! Keith

Weel I think I got it taken car of. The customer in question came in to day to pick up his Denali. Was very nice. He never called to ask "Is it done yet?" He did not squabble on the bill and my favorite, PAID IN CASH!!!! $3500 not bad. I hope he sends some more work my way I know I could use the work. Keith

I think those are pretty neat also might get a set for the rx-7! Keith

You will find a buch of info here also. http://www.torquecentral.com hop to the v8-rx7 fourum. You will see a few people badmouth grannys speedshop. I used their kit on my rx-7 V8 conversion and was very pleased with the quality and design. They do have a problem with the conversion for the 3rd gen cars with LT1 and LS1 motors but the early cars 79-85 and 86-92 with the standard SBC are a cakewalk!! You can see mine at http://photos.yahoo.com/bc/rx7260z/lst?.dir=/V-8+RX-7&.view=t Good luck. Keith

I think I understand what you are saying. but the gaps on this is more like 2" in the front and two in the back. If I put the front flush the back is about 4" off the surface. I love the hood in the pix you posted. This scoop is pretty big and poorly made there are a bunch of pin holes in the gel coat and has 1.5" wide 90* bend down both sides (left, right, and front). I really like the idea of bolting the scoop down. I was going to cut the "flange" off the scoop and transfer the contour of the hood to the scoop and glass some bolts to the inside of whats left and bolt it down. I will try to take some photos to show you what I have. Keith

I just bought a hood scoop for another car of mine. It is an 87 RX-7. the scoop is a 4" cowl induction style that was designed for a flat hood the rx's hood is curved. does anybody have any ideas on how to mate these two surfaces? I was thinking about cutting the glass at the same curve as the hood but then how do I transfer the curve? then how do I attach it? I will post some pix if this will help you all in understanding my poor grammer and inability to articulate (sp) what I am seeing into what I'm saying. Keith

This is not for my Datsun but here goes!! OK the motor is in and running. the exhaust is hooked up and the trans is full. Now comes the part I dont know how to do. The motor is a 350 chevy with a 700r4 trans. the induction is a Holley 4160 750CFM w/Vacuum secondarys and is BRAND NEW. I pulled it out of the box and bolted it on. now I need to know how to set it up. I also have an Mallory unilite dist. I picked up a dist. tuning kit (springs and weights) I have an Adv. Timing light and a good vacuume gauge. the initial timing is set at 8* (I figured that was a good starting point) and is pulling 19" on the gauge. now what do I do? Keith
