  1. good points. I know for sure that the coating can soften in race conditions. Not sure if the 400 degrees is enough to change the material composition, but thats not my area of expertise, so I will defer to you. I do know that when people ask me to do wheels, I refer them elsewhere.
  2. or should I replace it? The grooves aren't real deep, but there are plenty of them, and the "how to rebuild your nissan/datsun ohc engine' book says 'If your fingernail goes bumpety bump, better get a new pump'
  3. The silicone could probably handle the heat. I use silicone plugs to protect screw holes when powdercoating. Taking them apart would give better results than masking though.
  4. hope you heal quickly! really sorry to read this.
  5. Couldn't come up with any other way of doing it. I always thought it was a no no on wheels because it could dent them, but never read anything that said not to on spacers. My spacers lugs are kind of T shaped and not conical, such that there is a flat mating surface, I can't see how it could damage them, but who knows?
  6. I use 1" wide spacers and track my car with no problems. Curious though, how is everyone torqueing down the front adapters? I just use an impact wrench on its highest torque setting, but I have no way of measuring the torque on them, other than after doing the same on the rears, my torque wrench shows that its at least 100 ft.lbs.
  7. my only experience with them is that they will drop you after a claim. If its not going to be a daily driver, go with hagerty, otherwise, progressive is the bomb.
  8. now I'm torn. Inexpensive ones from Ford or the ARP's? I'm already spending more than I would have liked, the while-I'm-at-its are killing me!
  9. yes, it is recommended to replace the bolts with studs for better sealing.
  10. nothing to do with megasquirt, but when I was in the Navy, I flew an airplane (E-6A) whose primary mission was VLF communication with our ballistic missile submarines. We had a special white paint on the plane the reflected emp and also had screens embedded in all of our windows for the same reason. My flight engineer horse traded (stole) a gallon or 2 of the paint and painted his vw bug with it, he never had emp problems!
  11. I wish I would have, but as soon as it cooled, I had my wife pack and ship it. I had to drop my cylinder head off on the other side of town and wanted to beat traffic. Post some pics when you get it friday. It really did come out nice though.
  12. Joel, your oil pan came out beautiful!!!! Did you make it yourself? The workmanship is awesome. Anyway, the 10 stud set is around $80, available from Jegs and several other places, part number 400-8023 . The 16 piece is around 130 and is 400-8033
  13. to answer my own question, arp makes them in sets of 4, 8, 10 and 16.
  14. In Bryan Little's website, he says "TIP: On L28 heads you can install a 8mm x 1.25 45mm long stud in EVERY intake/exhaust bolt hole. This makes tightening the intake and header easy, as the studs allow you to really torque down without fear of stripping out the holes. Recommended, I've used them for years" Does anyone have a source for these studs?
  15. I'm trying to keep the budget small but things keep adding up. I'm using Nissan Motorsports pistons Arizona 4 bbl intake / Holley 390 (want to try something different) MSA stage 2 cam kit probably: Pertronix ingnitor and coil.
  16. I'm in Loganville, clear on the other side of town. I've actually decided to have a friend who owns a 350z/G35 shop assemble it for me. Its Forged Performance in Marietta. Its a lot simpler then a 350z head, thats for sure.
  17. probably, with a little work. On my last 240 I put all 280 plastic in the hatch. The only real difference was the qtr panel trim left about a 2x3" area exposed on each side, I put a brace across the area and it worked well.
  18. Want to add a cam while I am changing out the pistons, but I have never done head work and it seems more complicated than I want.
  19. www.fquick.com It just went live today, and already has lots of members. Mostly camaros, lets make a presence! I think its going to be big. My username is Mike on the site.
  20. Thats the way I was. Get good grades, get a ROTC scholarship, or just graduate college and join the Navy or Air Force and go to pilot training. Even though the airline jobs aren't what they were, they are still great and will let you support your auto habit. Plus flying a military plane is more fun anyway. Thats what I did.
  21. I'm seriously contemplating going the 4 barrel route just for ease of tuning and simplicity. It looks like overall, performance won't be that different. I'm a road racer not a drag racer.
  22. funny you say that, I just put my engine on the stand yesterday! The stand directions said it was easier to bolt the head onto the engine while on the hoist and then put the head on the assembled stand. It really was a lot easier!
  23. Classic Z car gave me the answer. the 3rd would be to the intake manifold. No use for me and my purposes.
