whats the best tool to trim an exhaust/intake manifold?
jnjdragracing replied to 2003z's topic in Exhaust
I have to do the same with my intake gaskets, similiar situation. I use my die gringer to cut the metal part, then use a razor blade to trim the paper material. Remember to let the die grinder do the cutting ( do not force ) or it will jump back and maybe mess up the gasket. John -

Here are some pic's of the new project. Body straight, only some surface rust, neat job of frame rails. Came with all parts to re-assemble. Plus a narrowed 9 inch rear with ladder bars.

Hey guy's My brother Jerry picked up another Z car today, will post some pic's soon. It has been notched out with 2x3 frame rails. Came with a narrowed 9 inch rear end (ladder bar) setup. So since we have another rough 260Z I mean rough I told him if one comes then the other has to go. Back yard is starting to look like a junk yard if you know what I mean. If anyone needs any 260Z parts let me know. We are going to scrap it. It is rough, no engine or trans was a stick shift and to far gone to bring back. We pulled the doors off and dropped the R180 rear and all suspension to keep. Probably will take the rear hatch back off to keep as well. It has a full dash and stuff still in it. I will post some pics of it also. Keep in mind I have a Plasma cutter and can cut parts off like body panels and such that can't be unbolted etc. Of course it has the common rust rot on the bottom of the front fenders. Someone has bondo'd the head light bezels to the front fenders, we used the hood ealier a couple of years ago to cut out for the supercharger in the other Zcar. It does have tail lights and marker lights. Just let me know and we can bring the parts to SEZ#8 if any one is in need of any parts or can ship (you pay shipping of course). Will post pic's tomorrow afternoon...... John

Mike, I hope your schedule works out so you can go to SEZ 8. Thats great you have over a week off to work on your BEAST, and I hope the weather will be nice. Let us know how it turns out. Jerry. -
No wheelie bars, my brother was not to keen on the idea. I think he had talked to Rip about this and might of come up with a plan, but nothing soon. We will be running at SEZ#8 just like it is presently. We wanted to give everyone a chance to out run us while the car was up in the air. ( just a little teasing ) John

I have broken my share of haftshafts, in my cases I sheared off the caps nearly always on the driverside inboard joint, on the starting line. At SEZ6 I broke both haftshafts on the second pass. we put new ujoints in and raced the rest of the afternoon. On the lower A arms we cut metal out (1/8th'" thick) and covered the opening so if and when a halfshaft cut loose it wold not fall into the arm and bind up. Last year we converted to the 300 Turb CV axles and have had no breakage, which is a good thing. We have some pictuires of the rearend on our web site, jnjdragracing.com You might be able to see the metal on the lower control arms. Jerry

building a dream or wasting your cash?
jnjdragracing replied to grumpyvette's topic in Gen I & II Chevy V8 Tech Board
Hey Grumpy, That is what I did. With my blower engine. Always wanted one and finally decided to build one. I guess I loved the Mad Max movies and the old school of racing. So I decided to purchase a blower, did all my home work had a plan and followed through. Built the engine and really surprized myself along with my friends. Never thought it would perform so well. Installed it in my brothers Zcar and have been having fun since. The engine was built to go in my Monte, One day I will finish stripping and repainting the Monte and the engine will go in it. I just have to much side work at the moment to be able to pull the Monte in and finish it. Hopefully in a couple of weeks will start back on the Monte. Probably will install the 412cu N/A engine in it for the time being. Once my brother and I fufill our goal of 8's in the 1/4 with the Z ( stock suspension ) then I will pull the engine out. Jerry my brother wants and plans on doing a turbo v8 for the zcar. John -
If the question is for us, we add a product called Hi Tach made by Lucas oil. I have always used this product in all my rear ends with out having any problems. It is an oil stablizer, which actuallys creeps up on all moving parts. John

Hey Scottie, Yes I see they are talking smack, let them talk the talk. This Sez#8 should be a real good meet. Have 1QuickZ comming, bringing both Z cars. Should be a lot of fun. I would like the Challenge to be, who gets in the 8's 1/4 mile first with a stock suspension Z-Car. This is what we are shooting for. Who ever pulls up next to us pulls up next to us. Hope to see you again soon. John -

A few things to check: vacuum leaks will cause high idle, when it gets hot it might be closing the leak. Timming needs to be checked, could be to much retard. Check the valve adjustment, you did not state hyd., solid, roller. I tend to think it is a vacuum leak / timming. John
