If I remember correctly from one of your earlier post you are running a supercharger. If you can run a PVC valve that would help. Vacuum is a plus in the engine. On our supercharger with the cam we run, we can not use a PCV Valve. We have to use breathers in each valve cover and a evac system going to the header collectors. We really need to invest in a racing vacuum pump, but they are expensive for now, maybe later. You are going to be pushing air into the engine from the supercharger pressurizing the cylinders (boost). You will have this pressure get past the rings and will go to the crankcase, so you will have to relieve this pressure out. Try the PVC valve and see what it does, if you start blowing your dip stick out, then you will need some breathers in the valve covers or invest in a racing vacuum pump. Hope this helps.... John

We purchased the car we have now for $350.00 in rough shape. We also have a 74 260Z I paid $100.00 for it is in sad shape. I hope to be buying a 74 260Z ( one owner car ) that the owner started to backhalf and lost interest in for $700.00. The body is super clean, no rust, and no dents. He has all the original parts plus a narrowed nine inch ford rearend too. Jerry

Me and my Partner Steve had a fallen out and we went our seperate ways. He owned the Z-car that I built and he sold our Z-Car for $12,000. The guy whou bought it did some inprovements and he sold it to a guy in PA. for $14,500 from what I hear. Here is a couple of photos of the Zcar next to the Supercharged Z-car my brother and I have now. Steve and I are friends again and he really misses that car. John

Hooker Super Comp & Oil Pan Clearance
jnjdragracing replied to Teekass's topic in Gen I & II Chevy V8 Tech Board
We run the supercomp headers, but we use a stock oil pan 5qt. On the other 240Z we had we had custom Stahl step headers made and ran a Milidon 7qt pan. Still had plenty of clearence. I do use a windage tray along with the 5qt oil pan. Just make a note: If you are running a 7qt oil pan etc, make suer the drain plug is on the outside or rear of the pan. Do not use the ones on the side. Could create an access problem when wanting to change your oil. John -
It is also a know fact to us, it is the angle of the u-joints that create the breaking issue. CV joints are more forgiving. If you limit you Z-Car squat and try to keep the u-joints level at a hard launch then they do hold up, we have proven this. Just my 2cents worth. John

help! how do I set up v8 carb with 280zx linkage?
jnjdragracing replied to MAXIMUS's topic in Gen I & II Chevy V8 Tech Board
Well I used a Lawn Mower cable, and made a bracket. I attached a photo of the setup I used with a single Carb. I used the same setup with 6-71 supercharger but had to use a longer cable and had to make a diffirent bracket. Never has giving me an issue. John -
I do not no about these guys but with our car we went a 9.21 @153 mph in the quarter. Our car dynoed at 566 RWHP and with NOS it went to 698 RWHP. We did this last March at SEZ. We have since changed to the 300ZXT CV axles and have had no problems. We did break 6 or more ujoints with the halftshafts. Jerry

We run the NOS fogger plate made by NOS. Yes the NOS progressive control controls the amount of NOS by fluttering the Solinoids. Seach the NOS site at http://www.holley.com/division/NOS.asp. Here is a photo of the system.

How much boost does the weiand 144 series supercharger make? I am sure it is similiar to mine, the more you overdrive the more boost it makes, but does increase heat which is bad. I was just curious... John PS: From your last post I think what you have done is a good idea, I am not sure if a Turbo intercooler would work. I know SuperChiller makes an intercooler than mount between the supercharge and intake for Marine purposes, but for my application it would raise the setup another 4 inches, and they are expensive at around $1800.00 new.

Yeah Dynos can be rough on engines, rather it break on the Dyno than on the track. John

Hey Jason, Not too sure what setup you are running but on my setup with the roots supercharger I have a fogger nos plate under the carbs set at a 175hp pills then use a nos progressive controller and have it set to only 20 % of the NOS. this is what I use as a intercooler and it picks me up another 150 rwhp. Weather temps really affect the super charger, if it is hot then we loose HP dur to heat, if it is cold we pick up HP. Just a 10 degree change in weather (cold) is worth about 50HP in my setup. I can always change the pulley ratio for more boost or less depending on the weather, if it is hot then I under drive the pulleys, cold I overdrive and make awsome power. Hope this was helpful and good luck with your supercharger. John

I agree we run the clevite race bearing, and have not had that issue. I think if you get another set of bearings the holes will line up. John

Most machine shops can clearence the block for you. They will do a trial fit. If they have done that stroker kit before then they know what and where to clearence. If you use an aftermarket block then the clearencing is usually already done. Sometimes you can find a kit usually based on a 6" rod and the piston pin location is higher up on the piston, and the stroke on the crank is where the stroke comes in. By the way I have a used set of Childs and Albert steel I-Beam rods that I will sell resonable. John

I ran into that problem also. I ended up drilling and tapping the hole. It worked for a while, we were running a higi compression engine at the time and about a year later had some issues with the drilled and tapped hole. If I was going to do it agian I would buy another starter. Just my 2 cents worth. John

My friend bought a 1974 260z, all oringinal with only about 60,000 to 80,000 miles on it, can't remember for sure. It has been sitting for years in a garage. He was able to get the engine to run but the transmission was slipping etc. He pulled the transmission pan and was going to replace the filter etc. Well a few days went by and he replaced the filter and could not find the. Come to find out his son threw it out in the trash while cleaning up the shop. Are all the automatic transmissions the same ( transmission pan )? Does anyone have an extra or one they are willing to get rid of? He wants to keep it oringinal so he is keeping the automatic transmission. Thanks for any help... John

Hey Z-gad you the man as my brother would say. Good luck in fixing it and good luck on the test and tune runs. John

The R200 rear end, with the 300zx turbo cv joints will take some punishment. We know , dyno at 750rwhp. We ran 9.21 at 154 mph using the R200 and using the u-joint halfshafts. This was witnessed at SEZ#6. So do not think so lightly of the R200. John
