There are a lot of fast Z's, It depends what class you are talking about. The turbo 6, has to go to ZGad I think with his engine, then you have the normal 6 cars then the other turbo 6 cars, then you have the N/A v8's then the turbo v8's then the super charged v8's then the NOS v8's. At Sez#6 it was I think between our Supercharged Z and Doc Hunts alky fed Z and Zgad were the fastest but I really do not remember. At Sez#7 it was Zgad, The Zebra, and another Z I am not sure who he was. We had a big issue and was not running right. I think this year it is going to be 1 quickZ the tube chassis car, but he is not in our class being tube chassis, then you have the Zebra, then us, then ZGad who is a turbo 6 but is running as fast as we are in v8's. It is really hard to say, we all run good most of the time, and we all have fun. You have Scottie, Warren, Wayne, Quicker240Z, Garret, etc. and a lot of others. We are not really seeing who is the king Z in my IMO. It is just a group of great guys having a good time. We set goals and try to achieve them, like running the 1/4 mile in 9.21 seconds with stock Z suspension and u-joints, ( we did ) now this year it is going to be the 8.s with stock suspension but with cv joints on 9" of tire. Everybody has something they want to do. John -

Roller, 1quickz( Jon Phillips) has a big tire(18.5") Z that runs in the 7's in the quarter and a small tire(9") car that runs low 9's.This will be his first time at a SEZ event. In the last two events low 9's has been the fastest I have seen.I hope you can make it! Jerry -

How do HTP Plasma Cutters rate?
jnjdragracing replied to Metallicar's topic in Fabrication / Welding
That is what I bought a Thermadyne Cutmaster 38, I heard it was a knock off of Miller. So far it has been a good tool, no problems with it. I bought it about a year ago. John -

Hey jon, Look forward to seeing your cars run also. I gave my brother Jerry the message and he should be calling you. He handles the suspension and I handle the engine / electrical. John -
Looks good, Looking forward to seeing it in action again. Clean install and love the hood rod, yes you need to paint it. And yes gotta love the sound of the sbc 454..... John

Wheelie Bars need opinion....
jnjdragracing replied to jnjdragracing's topic in Brakes, Wheels, Suspension and Chassis
Hey Rip, I told my brother about this, and that I posted it on this forum. He was not too keen on the idea, he said we will start usiing the retard when we leave. Thanks.... -
Probably just some trash getting caught in the needle seat not allowing it to close. I would take the needle seat out, check for trash. Remove the primary and secondary float bowls and clean. Check fuel line / gas tank for trash. Make sure you have a filter. Re-assemble and check float level, adjust as needed. Make sure the fuel is regulated at least 6psi. John

Need help with hole for oil fill tube
jnjdragracing replied to gretchen/jason's topic in Gen I & II Chevy V8 Tech Board
Spray some ether around the hole and some inside, than let air dry or blow with some air. The ether will evaporate quickly, Apply a genorus amount of permatex, usual same engine color to blot threads and push it in the hole, do not aplly at bottom of bolt, you want to keep the permatex out of the engine. Then I would let dry at least 24hrs if not longer. John -

Bore ? on 350 and 400 SBC Choices
jnjdragracing replied to gvincent's topic in Gen I & II Chevy V8 Tech Board
Balancer bolt should be 5/8. Yes I would pull the plugs, would make it easier to turn over. If I bought it while it was out I would go ahead and freshen it up, check the bearings crank and rods, probably would go ahead replace the rings. After all is done at least you know what you have. You can always buy a anew head gasket, install the head back on. Drain the oil, replace oil filter after filling with new oil. Then bolt on a starter, and turn it over. I would attach a mechanical oil pressure gauge and check the oil pressure, then pull the plugs and do a compression check on all cyl. If some are low, then add some oil to the cyl. and try again. The 1st method is the sure way. IMO..... John PS: I like both the 350 and 400, but for raw power you can't beat the 400. -

how much power are you putting through your r200?
jnjdragracing replied to jonus079's topic in Drivetrain
We are putting out a little over 700HP with over 600lbs of torq using 28X9 slicks and have been running this rearend for 3 years.Jerry -
We use the CARQUEST Gold u-joints part # 1-0029G , they have no grease fitting and they are solid. We went a 9.21@153mph on them. Just visit your local CARQUEST store and ask for the Gold joint for your application.Jerry

HAPPY BIRTHDAY DOC !!!!!!! Do you have anymore pictures of your fishing Buddy? The one from post a picture of your Girlfriend post?Jerry:p

A Transbrake is a nice feature to have. It also really depends what you are planning on putting it in? If you are thinking about putting it in a Datsun Z with a stock suspension / IRS, then I would not do it. You will break it. We normally run a powerglide 2 speed with a transbrake in the other race car, if it is light use a glide, heavy use a turbo 350 or 400. This is normally the general rule. We have tried to use the turb 350 in our Z-car and it was way to violent, tuff on parts. IMO.... John

Wheelie Bars need opinion....

Wheelie Bars need opinion....
jnjdragracing posted a topic in Brakes, Wheels, Suspension and Chassis
Alright fellow Hybrid Z’ers, This is probably a stupid question. I have searched the forum ( I searched for wheelie bars .) and can only find write ups on stock IRS Suspension can not lift the front wheels off the ground / Drag racing. Well I think we have proven that is false. We have all stock suspension, we did weld the unit to be Posi, and have recently upgraded to CV joints and are using Modern Motor Sports CV adapters other than that Yes it is stock Z suspension. My question is this, I was contemplating the idea of installing a single or double wheelie bar on the Z car, and I am just not sure where to mount it? On a solid axle rear end, or course you mount the wheelie bar mounts on the axle tubes and go from there. Where would you mount them on a IRS suspension? I was thinking since we do not run a rear bumper, I could fashion something to the rear where the bumper used to mount. Watching our last video www.jnjdragracing.com/videos/01202007-2.mpg from the track last Saturday, if we would have stayed on the throttle, I think it would have flipped over, maybe not. Maybe it would have rode out and sit back down, I am not sure. Give me your ideas please………….. If we do not mount some type of wheelie bar, I guess I will connect back up the retard button switch and just leave the line retarding the timing than as we roll out release it for full power, this is what we did when we were running stock u-joints. The main reason I am asking is that I would like to give our hardest fullest run at SEZ#8, not having to hold back. Thanks, John -
Of course if you are cutting a lot of metal, you need to invest in a Plasma Cutter. You will be amazed at what you can cut and how easy it cuts. I still use my chop saw some, and my torches also. But the Plasma is a nice addition to have. John
